Darkstalkers

A 13 episode Darkstalkers cartoon series was first broadcast late on in 1995. It was quickly forgotten about, and would not really be discussed by anyone until Youtube came along. Once people started putting clips onto Youtube, the series became infamous among fans of the games over how bad it was. The obvious problem was the animation -the show is poorly animated and features bad art. It must have had a rushed production, as each episode is absolutely full of errors, some of which are very noticeable. Other problems include some silly plots, and the personalities for some characters being very different to what they're like in the games.
"Darkstalkers was mindless garbage... like most of the crap on TV right now!" -Frank Brunner, character designer for Graz Entertainment.
"In my opinion 11 eps too many" -Michael Swanigan, when told Darkstalkers lasted for 13 episodes.
People who worked on the show also didn't like it, as the above quotes show.
After its initial airing, the show allegedly stayed in syndication for as little as four months, and then was pulled. The series would later be released on DVD, with every episode available. This is currently the only legal way of watching it, but nobody seems to care that the entire series can be seen on Youtube for free.

Currently, the best option is ADV's Darkstalkers: Out of the Shadows set. This box set contains the entire series on 3 DVDs, with the only special features being some trailers for ADV's other titles. There is a glitch with two of the trailers on the first DVD -the Street Fighter trailer plays Mega Man's theme, and vice-versa. This set was only released in America, and the discs are region locked. For those who can only stomach the first five episodes, then ADV also released another DVD called Darkstalkers: Battle Storm. Whilst the DVD box has a new cover, the actual disc is just the first disc from the Out of the Shadows set, right down to having the same selection menus and everything.
In January 2025, Discotek Media announced a Blu-ray release for the series, which is due to be released at some point in 2025.
