At the house of Kuroko Sanada, the first spirit detective, Yusuke Urameshi received a visit from men from the Demon Realm. In the Demon Realm, Yomi, Mukuro and Raizen, all of comparable strength, had been engaged in a power struggle, and for five hundred years, a delicate balance had been maintained. However, one of the three, the God of Fighting, Raizen, was now nearing death. He is also said to be Yusuke's father!
Yusuke: It's shady characters like you that infuriate me more than anything!
Parting -
Our Respective Departures
Yusuke says he held back as hard as he could, and he'll decide whether to kill him or not after he hears what he has to say. Hokushin compliments him, as he didn't see his attack coming until it was too late. He says that it's true, he hasn't told him everything. The reason for this was because he thought that he would have difficulty fully understanding them. Yusuke tells him to stop being so pretentious, he knows this is a matter about what they eat. He says that the other two strong demons that oppose Raizen must still be using humans as food, just like they are. He believes that there's some reason as to why Hokushin and the others are siding with Raizen, who has stopped eating humans. They should have just said what it was from the start.
Hokushin tells Yusuke he is indeed a descendant of Raizen, and is a lot like him. Hokushin then says that whether or not someone is fun to fight with is everything to him. Eventually, he also wants to stop using humans for food. But right now, no matter what, he wants to have the strength to fight his enenmies. Yusuke wants to know why he's going through all of this to fight against the two opposing demons. Hokushin says it's because their king hates them. Any demon Raizen hates, he also hates. He wants to introduce Yusuke to Raizen, and says he'll come back again in one week.
He, Seitei and Touou then leave, and as they go, Hokushin says Yusuke has probably decided what to do already. But as there must be many things he needs to take care of here first, they'll wait. As they vanish, Kuroko suddenly steps out of the forest. She tells him he should go to the Demon Realm.
If he can stand before a man-eating demon like that, and just accept that humans are just meals to them, then he's no longer a resident of the Human Realm. Yusuke thinks she could be right. Kuroko then says she wasn't going to mention this, but before Yusuke came here, she was visisted by a messenger from the Spirit Realm.
Ayame had given her an order: kill Yusuke Urameshi. She had said that Yusuke was dangerous, and possesses demonkin blood -he must be killed at once. Kuroko told Ayame that she refused to do it. Back in the present, Yusuke relaizes that Koenma was right, it looks like the Spirit Realm people want to kill him off no matter what. Kuroko says that she then called Master Genkai and asked about him. Genkai told her that she would know about him if she actually met him. Until just now, having actually seen him, she was at ease. But now, she's afraid of him. She can't put as much faith in him as Genkai does.
She is worried that in time, it seems likely that he will have to fight her children, and that terrifies her. Yusuke says that will never happen, but Kuroko asks him if he can say that with any conviction. She wanted to be of help to him, but he and those three guys from earlier all have far greater power than she does -she can't offer him anything. Yusuke says he understands, and apologizes for barging in here. He walks off.
Shogo then appears, asking him to wait. He reminds him that he was in the middle of reading his fortune earlier. He walks up to him and says that in his reading, he saw a great parting. Yusuke asks what he means by that, and he says that it was a parting with his comrades in arms, over blood.
Elsewhere, Kurama senses someone is following him. He finds three people behind him, and asks them what they want. One of them tosses him a message ball, and says it's from Lord Yomi.
The three then vanish. Kurama takes the message ball and throws it at a wall. As it shatters, the contents from an image of Yomi. Yomi says it has been a long time, and he's glad Kurama is still alive. As this is a message ball, he can only speak one way.
Yomi says that he wants to see Kurama immediately. Back when they were working together, they were both underdeveloped demons. But he has now become strong, and is very close to taking control of the entire Demon Realm. Back in their day, it was Raizen and Mukuro who were the strongest, but now, he has become as strong as them. He intends to surpass them both, and unite the Demon Realm. He wants Kurama to lend him his strength, and has faith he will come. Before the message ends, Yomi says that he found the demon who blinded him. He wants Kurama to see him, so he's been keeping him alive.
As the message ends, Hiei suddenly appears, and asks if Yomi is an old friend of his. Kurama is taken by surprise, and Hiei tells him that's not like him. Hiei also reveals he had a messenger come to him, but in his case, it was one of Mukuro's men. He pulls out a message ball, and throws it at the wall. An image of Mukuro appears on it.
Mukuro appears on the wall, and introduces himself. He says that he often doesn't show himself to others, as it's hard to move around when you're well known. He says Hiei has caught his attention, and asks if he will become his servant. He could even become his right-hand man. He has discovered that Raizen is on the verge of death, and when he dies, he'll immediately launch an all out offensive on Yomi. He does not like his talk of uniting the Demon Realm, and finds him to be an even more insuffereable bastard than Raizen. He believes that the Demon Realm will soon return to normal, and when that happens, he wants Hiei at her side. As the message ends, Hiei thinks Mukuro is an idiot, who talks too much. Kurama says that Mukuro must have also know about their battle with Sensui. The three powerful demons must have been looking throughout the Demon Realm for large clashes of demon energy, and checking on what happened. Hiei says he'll go and see Mukuro, but doesn't plan on siding with him. Kurama thinks fighting all year round is the best way to quickly raise your fighting abilities, and if he sees Mukuro, he'll have no shortage of fights. Hiei says he'll make good use of Mukuro, and walks off.
Meanwhile, Shizuru catches her brother sleeping instead of studying, amd kicks him to wake him up. She asks him what he is going to do about high school. Kuwabara says he's going, so she says he needs to study more. He tells her to just leave him alone, but he sees the look on her face and asks her what's wrong. She says she's worried about him, as the way things are going, he'll ruin his life. He says she's the last person he wants to hear that from.
She grabs him and starts slapping him around -he's the first son of the Kuwabara family, and he needs to pull it together! Kuwabara says he's seriously been thinking about his future, but Shizuru slaps him into the window. As she lights up a cigarette, she wonders what she got such a slacker, so unlike her, for a brother.
As she leaves the room, Kuwabara thinks that this is an important time. He also thinks that maybe he should get serious for once in his life, as maybe doing nothing but fighting will ruin him. The next day, Yusuke meets with Keiko. She wonders what's going on, as Yusuke has been skipping school recently, then suddenly he invites her out. Yusuke says he's become a demonkin, and tells her to remember what he looked like when he came out of the cave. As they leave, Yusuke explains things to her. She asks how is he different now, and he says there is no fundamental difference. Keiko thinks that means there's no problem.
Yusuke says he's thinking of going to the Demon Realm. Keiko asks when, and he says tomorrow. She asks if he's told his mother, and he says he has, but all she asked was which was farther away: there, or America. Keiko asks if he can come back, and after recalling what Hokushin said, he says probably, but he doesn't know when. A little later on, Keiko says that Kuwabara is trying to get into Gai Technical College's high school, whilst she is getting into Daiichi Women's. Yusuke says that's an all girls school, but Keiko says it's fine -there's an all boy's school right next door to it.
As she ges up, she tells Yusuke to let her know when he gets back from the Demon Realm -she'll introduce him to her boyfriend. She starts to walk off, but as she does, Yusuke calls out to her, and asks her not to dump him.
As he scrambles up the hill, he falls and tumbles over backwards. Keiko laughs and tells him it's too late now, and says bye bye. She then heads off home. Yusuke remains on the hill, looking up at the sky.
Later on, Yusuke goes to Kuwabara's home, and sees him studying. He decides not to bother hin, and instead goes over to Keiko's home. Inside, Mr. Yukimura says they're closed, but then sees it's Yusuke. He asks Yusuke if he wants his usual, and then calls out to Keiko.
Keiko eventually comes down, annoyed that she's had to stop studying for this. Her father doesn't care about that, and tells her that if she has to study so hard to get into a school that she can't help her parents out, she should just go to another school. She gets Yusuke's platter ready, with her father critiquing her cooking technique -she'll never make anyone a good wife like that. Keiko tells him to leave her alone, and then gives Yusuke his food. She tries to leave, but Yusuke stops her.
As Yusuke digs in, he says it tastes great. He offers Keiko some, but she doesn't wany any. He then says that tomorrow is his birthday, and Keiko knows that already. Yusuke then says he'll be back in exactly three years -he promises. And when he does come back, he asks Keiko to marry him.
Keiko can't believe he's proposing after being dumped -doesn't he have any integrity? Her father laughs, saying he hasn't heard Yusuke use that line in a long time. He used to say it every time they got into a fight. Keiko asks if he really meant three years, and he says he did. She says there's no telling what'll happen, as it's such a long time ahead of them.
As she leaves, Yusuke says he loves her, to which she casually says she loves him. As she heads up to her room, she looks out the window, and sees Yusuke leave. She thinks about the three years, and as Yusuke walks off, he waves to her.
