Synopsis
Yusuke skips school and meets with Koenma. Koenma explains he is staying in the Human Realm for now, but his father's order to eliminate Yusuke still stands. Yusuke is restless, still annoyed at how his fight with Sensui ended. Koenma suggests that he visits Genkai, as she may be able to advise him. Yusuke visits her, and as they play a fighting game, she gives him the address of Kuroko Sanada, who was the first ever spirit detective. She believes she will be able to help Yusuke. Yusuke goes to the address the next day, but as he enters the property, he is attacked by two kids: Kaisei and Fubuki.
They attack him, but he's able to block their attacks with just his fingers. They prepare to use a projectile attack, but Kuroko appears, and tells her kids to stop. She tells Yusuke that Genkai had advised her he was on the way, and explains that her kids act as guard dogs, attacking any demons that come here. They head back to her home, where Yusuke meets Shogo Sato, Kuroko's husband.
Koenma visits Genkai and finds out where Yusuke has gone. He believes they can trust Kuroko, as Genkai finds out that Enma's order to kill Yusuke has gone out to all sorts of places -and may have been given to Kuroko herself. Back at Kuroko's place, Yusuke sees a picture of Kuroko when she was younger, and a lot bigger. She explains that she grew 40 centimeters, yet her weight stayed the same. She recalls a time she took down three demons with ease. She then asks if they should have something to drink, and suggests brandy. Yusuke is up for that, and so are the kids. Yusuke asks if she's sure it's ok to be giving alcohol to her kids, and she says it's fine -it's only these whiskey candies, after all. Yusuke realizes he'll be getting the same thing as the kids. Kuroko and her kids get drunk pretty quickly.
Later on, when the kids have gone to bed, Yusuke asks Kuroko why she stopped being a spirit detective. She says she retired so she could get married. She gave up the rough and tumble world, and decided to live for love. But the demons never learn, and they sometimes come after her. Her days may be ordinary and dull, but she's happy for what they are. She says that just before she got married, she met Shinobu. She could tell his spiritual strength from just a glance, but he looked so sad. She tells Yusuke he's got nothing to worry about on that point, and he could go on being a spirit detective for another 10 years. Kuroko suggests that Shogo have a look at Yusuke's future, and says that he can tells fortunes as a hobby. Shogo tells Yusuke that he currently has no discontentment in the things around him. But, somewhere in his heart, he has a desire to always be placed in danger. He then tells him that if he's thinking firstly about his own feelings, then the best thing to do is just sit tight if he's feeling lost. Yusuke asks him what he means, and Shogo says that whether he wants it to or not, danger is approaching him from somewhere. Just then, Yusuke and Kuroko sense someone outside, as three men suddenly materialize into the room. They say they are from the Demon Realm, and want to speak to Yusuke about his destiny -a fate that he cannot avoid.
