In order to prevent the completion of the boundary tunnel, Yusuke and the others infiltrate their way into Irima cave. However, there was a single boy waiting for them there, blocking their way: Gamemaster, Amanuma. He is capable of turning the world of a video game into reality. The only way to get through his territory is to be the first one to win four games. Mitarai competed first in a tennis game, and narrowly managed to win.
Gamemaster's Fearsome Aptitude
Yusuke tells Mitarai that was nicely done, and now they have one win. Amanuma says they'll go onto the next game. The slot machine is activated, and the next game will be a shooting game: Battle Heli, on the level 6 difficulty. The genie enemy appears, who states it's impossible for anyone to conquer his impenetrable base.
Genkai says if this is only on level 6, she can win. She says she can do this one, and steps forward to the controls. As she does, the controls change into a real helicopter, which she sits in.
A voice tells her she has three helicopters, and if she loses all of them, it means she loses the game. To win, she has to shoot down the genie's helicopter. Genkai takes off, and finds herself out at sea. Several enemy battleships start firing at her, but she takes them all out quickly. Kaito is impressed she did a no miss of the first stage.
She soon enters the second stage, and has to fly down a trench. Numerous turrets shoot at her, but she manages to get past them all without being hit. As she comes up on the enemy base, Yusuke is certain she can't get through this.
Kaito says hitting that target is one of the hardest parts of the game. Genkai tells them they're noisy brats, as she's about to show them how good she really is! She manages to fly her helicopter past some spinning pylons, and get right up to the core.
She shoots the core, causing it, along with the entire base, to explode. This causes the enemy genie to fly out, who is annoyed that his base has been destroyed.
He starts firing at Genkai, but she avoids all of his shots, and gets behind him. She starts firing, and blows him and his helicopter to pieces.
The game is over, and Genkai is the winner. Amanuma thinks she was amazing, but Yusuke doesn't know why he's pleased that she won.
Amanuma thinks they've made a mistake -they're sure to regret using such a good player so soon. Yusuke says he'll go next, and the slot machine is used again. This time, it's an action battle game: Dark Martial Arts, on the level 1 setting. The boss genie appears, and tells Yusuke to come and get it, if he's sure of himself. Yusuke thinks this'll be an easy win.
The rules are that Yusuke has three lives, and if he loses them all, he loses the game. The game starts, and Yusuke finds himself in a mountainous area. Several demons rush towards him, but Yusuke knocks them all down with one punch.
The demons are initially stunned, but they all get back up and punch him back. The game announces player 1 has lost...
...so Yusuke respawns as player 2. Genkai yells at him to aim for his opponent's vital points, or he won't be able to defeat them. Yusuke rushes forward and quickly strikes the targets on his opponent's chests.
Genkai tells him to quickly get the giant growth potion, but as he does, the genie from earlier appears behind him -and has grown much larger in size! He kicks Yusuke with enough force...
...to send him crashing into a mountain. The potion lands in his mouth, and he drinks it. In doing so, Yusuke grows much larger in size, and can take on the genie.
He punches the genie in the face, sending him crashing into a volcano. The volcano erupts, and the game is over: Yusuke wins! Yusuke says that's three wins in a row.
Amanuma gets up and says it appears to be his turn. Kurama says up until now, this has just been a warm up. He tells Yusuke that if Amanuma plays at the same level as the actual game's boss, then eight or nine times out of ten, he or Kaito will beat him. But he believes Amanuma is stronger than the real boss, which is why he chose this game.
He tells Yusuke that if he and Kaito should lose, he needs to be thinking of a way to escape from here. Yusuke thinks he's never seen Kurama this wary before. He's also never been able to not feel out how strong an opponent is. Amanuma uses the slot machine to select the next game, and hopes for an action game. However the slot machine selects a quiz, general knowledge, on level G.
Amanuma isn't pleased with the result, as quiz isn't his strongest area. Kaito says he'll take this one, and Yusuke says they're counting on him. He and Amanuma walk up to the controls, but Kurama finds it strange how sure of himself Amanuma looks.
Kurama asks Mitarai about anything else he could say about Amanuma's ability, but Mitarai says this is the first time he's actually seen Amanuma's ability himself. He doesn't know any more other than the fact that Amanuma can turn a game into reality. The game is about to start, and Amanuma offers a handshake to Kaito. Kaito tells him the real Game King wouldn't ask for a handshake. Amanuma thinks he's no fun.
Amanuma explains that in this quiz, the questions go to whoever buzzes in first, and there are four choices per question. Whoever answers ten questions correctly first, wins the game. Getting a question wrong won't make you lose any points, but if you get three wrong in total, you lose the game. The quiz starts, but Amanuma stands there. Kaito asks him what he's doing, and he says he's giving him a handicap. He's just going to stand here, and watch quietly. Kaito doesn't think that'll be necessary, and the quiz then starts. However, the announcer doesn't even get to fully read out the first question before Kaito answers it.
The text for the question only states "The Amazo", but Kaito has selected C) Pororoca. The game tells him that's correct.
Yusuke is surprised Kaito knew the answer after such little text from the question appeared. Kaito says that the total number of questions in the Battle Quiz general version is 17,000. Among those questions, there are only three which begin with "Amazo", all of which deal with the Amazon. The answer is either Pororoca, piranha or the Amazon Highway. Yana can't believe Kaito managed to memorize all of the questions, and Yusuke thinks Kaito could be a TV game show champion.
The game says the full question was: The Amazon's Araguari River basin features a natural phenomenon, where they river water flows backward. What is this called? Kaito tells Amanuma this is why he doesn't need a handicap. Amanuma's only response is that the second question is about to come up.
In the Spirit Realm, Enma says he understands how urgent the situation has become. He says there is little choice, and grants his son permission for what he requested. Koenma thanks him, and then leaves with Jorge. Koenma tells Jorge he has to leave, and whilst Jorge wants to go with him, he can't.
Back on Earth, Kaito has now got the answers to five questions in a row correct, whilst Amanuma still hasn't attempted to answer any. Kurama wonders what he's doing, but Yusuke thinks Kaito is just too much for him to handle. Genkai thinks otherwise, and tells him to look at Amanuma.
Amanuma has a look which says he's going to win. Amanuma suddenly says he's got it, and tells Kaito he'll fight back now. Kaito wonders what he means, and thinks Amanuma has just been checking out his ability up until now. Amanuma says what he's got is something completely different, and he hasn't been concerned about how good Kaito is at all.
The game says questions six, but before it can even read out any part of the question, or display any of the answers, he buzzes in to answer it. Nobody understands why he's done this...
...but Amanuma then states what the question is: What is the name of the asteroid that is the subject of a theoretical collision with the Earth in the year 2000? He says the answer is B) Toutatis. The game tells him that's correct! The text full appears on the screen, showing that Amanuma got the question right, as well as the answer. Everyone tries to figure out how he did it, and if he's able to see the future, but Kurama says Amanuma has memorized the quiz questions and their order, as well as the placement of the answers.
Kaito says that's impossible, as the order of the quiz questions and answers are all supposed to be randomized. Amanuma tells him they may look mixed up, but there's actually a rule to it. It takes about five questions to figure out what the algorithm is. He tells Kaito that perhaps a five question handicap wasn't enough. The game then announces question seven.
Again, Amanuma answers it before the question or any of the answers for it are displayed. And again, he gets it correct. Genkai says at this rate, Kaito's defeat is assured, but Hiei then steps forward. Yusuke asks him what he plans to do, and he says he's going to destroy that game. Mitarai tells him that's crazy, as they're inside Amanuma's territory. Their actions outside of game play must conform to Amanuma's will.
Yana warns him if he does this, it'll turn out the same way as what happened when he tried to attack Kaito: it won't work. Hiei says it's better than standing here and looking on in silence. He attacks the monitor, slicing it in half and making it explode.
However he actually failed to do any damage to it at all. Genkai tells Hiei to give it up, whilst Amanuma asks him not to interrupt him whilst he's having so much fun.
Kurama says it appears the only thing they can do is best Amanuma at the game. Amanuma has now tied the score up, and the eleventh question is about to be read out. But this time, Kaito answers it. Amanuma tells him he can press the button before him, but he can't compete on intuition alone. Kaito says there is a 25% probability here, and that's not a bad number. However, the answer he chose is wrong.
The game goes on, and Amanuma keeps getting his answers right, whilst Kaito gets two more wrong. The game is over, and Amanuma has won. Kaito says he's been utterly defeated, as he didn't realize there was a rule to the order of the quiz questions. Amanuma tells him he put up a good fight, and he's good at this. He hopes to face him in the next game. Yusuke says all they can do now is count on Kurama. He then wonders what will happen if they lose inside Amanuma's territory.
Kaito comes back, and says he finds Amanuma to be very strange, as it seems he just enjoys playing the game. He wonders if he really understands Sensui's plans when he decided to join up with him. Kurama asks Kaito if he feels strange in any way, but Kaito says no. He thought Amanuma would take his soul or something, but nothing happened. Kurama thinks they they could probably lose this game over and over, and nothing will happen to them. But if they give up, they'll all die. In the real game, once the heroes lose, the game over screen appears, and players have the choice to either continue or give up. If you continue, you have to restart the game from the beginning. If you give up, a screen appears with "The End" text on it, and images of the graves of the heroes are shown in the background. Yusuke thinks they don't have the time to just keep playing against Amanuma. Kurama says Amanuma was never after their lives in the first place, his goal is to simply buy time, until the boundary tunnel is open.
Amanuma says that's right, and uses the slot machine. He tells them once the time comes, he'll dispel his territory straight away. All they have to do is enjoy playing these game with him for a few hours. Elsewhere in the cave, Itsuki says how smoothly things are going -he can feel his ability heightening to a surprising level. He thinks it probably won't take more than two hours for the hole to completely open. Sensui says his movie will over in two more hours, and tells Kuwabara he's expecting a favorable response from him then. Kuwabara tells him he'll die before cooperating with them. He yells for Urameshi to hurry up and get in here.
Only two hours remain before the boundary tunnel is complete! Will Yusuke and the others be able to defeat Amanuma and put a stop to Sensui's scheme before then?
