Synopsis
Yusuke's group talk things over about what's happened so far, such as how Doctor and Sniper have been defeated, and how Gourmet can eat the abilities of others. Genkai has Hiei, Kurama and Yusuke enter the cave first, with Mitarai guiding them. Mitarai leads them through the maze-like cave, but then stops when he comes across a door he's never seen before. A voice from behind the door tells them they must have seven warriors to be able to face the Game King, and the group realize that this is part of Gamemaster's territory. Gamemaster -who's real name is Amanuma -says they can't enter unless they have seven. Yusuke's group go back and then later come back with Genkai, Kaito and Yana. The doors to Gamemaster's territory finally open.
Inside, they meet Gamemaster, who wants to get them to play some fun games, which they'll be doing. His territory allows him to bring games to life, and in this case, he has made Game Battler real. Elsewhere in the cave, Kuwabara assures his captors that the moment Yusuke gets here, it'll be the end of them. Sensui thinks otherwise, and says Amanuma will keep Yusuke's group busy. Yusuke's group discuss what they're going to do, and find out that Yusuke, Genkai, Kurama, Mitarai and Kaito have played the game before. It's a game with several different games in it, and they have to win four out of seven games to win.
Outside, Botan has been left alone, something she's not happy about -she hopes Koenma will come back soon. In the Spirit Realm, Koenma speaks to his father about Sensui, and asks him for permission for something. Back in Gamemaster's territory, the first game is selected: tennis. Mitarai says he's good at this game, and plays it against a virtual opponent.
Amanuma tries to put Mitarai off his game, calling him weak. But Mitarai is still able to win overall, and after the game is over, he tells Mitarai that he was weak -but he'll change. The first game is over, but what kind of game will unfold next?
-In the manga, Botan, Kaito and Yana have no dialogue during the opening scene where the group discuss things. In the anime they were given some.
-Hiei is the one who says to go into the cave, before Genkai says they shouldn't all go in together. In the anime, Yusuke is the one who says it.
-The scene with Keiko in this episode isn't in the manga.
-In the manga, Yusuke asks how to play Game Battler, and tells Kurama he only plays fighting games. In the anime, this was changed so Yusuke has played it before, and has to explain to Yana how to play it.
-The manga has Yana be one of the first three to play the game, along with Mitarai and Genkai. In the anime, Yana was swapped out for Yusuke.
-The scene with Botan outside, complaining about how she's been left alone, isn't in the manga.
-The scene with Koenma meeting his father in Spirit Realm isn't in the manga either.
-In the manga, the games are played on a big monitor. In the anime, this was changed to Gamemaster being able to bring the games to life.
