Synopsis

Yusuke returns to his apartment, where Genkai screams at him -how could he have not gone to help Kuwabara?! She explains that Kuwabara's powers haven't disappeared, they've just gone dormant. Kuwabara is about to break out of his shell -if nothing has happened to him, that is. Yusuke and Botan rush off to find him. Seaman starts drowning Kuwabara's friends, and Kuwabara tries to save them, only to be consumed by the water monster as well. Seaman explains that his territory is a separate dimension of space, closed off from the outside, and it's impossible to leave unless he is defeated. Kuwabara punches it as much as possible, to no effect. He thinks if he doesn't unleash his potential here, he never will.

Seaman then receives a cut to his face, and realizes that, somehow, Kuwabara was able to attack him. He thinks about what Sensui said to him -how they must find someone with the ability to cut through dimensions -and realizes Kuwabara is the one. Kuwabara summons a new type of spirit energy sword, and uses it to cut through the monster, and also strikes Seaman. Seaman falls, and his territory is destroyed.

Kuwabara manages to carry his friends and Seaman back to Yusuke's apartment, where Yusuke and Botan find them collapsed at the front of the building. Meanwhile, heaving learnt about Kuwabara's new ability, Sensui tells Sniper, Gourmet and Toguro they'll move onto their next operation. He wants Toguro's power, and whilst Toguro says he happy to help, he asks them to wait a little longer, whilst he regenerates his body. However, Gourmet takes his current form and consumes it. The next morning, Yusuke and the others question Seaman about what he is doing, and why he is doing it. Seaman reveals that he has seen a secret tape known as the Black Chapters -a videotape which contains the most most cruel and brutal crimes mankind has committed on it. Having seen it, Seaman thought that all of mankind should die, and that what he saw haunts his dreams every day.

Kurama takes Yusuke aside and says he went to see Koenma, and believes Koenma knows who the mastermind behind everything is. Yusuke immediately contacts Koenma and tells him to tell all now, threatening to quit his spirit detective job if he doesn't. Koenma says that he didn't want to believe it, but now knowing that the Black Chapters tape is involved, he believes that the one behind everything is a man called Shinobu Sensui -a former spirit detective. He disappeared ten years ago, which was the same time the videotape went missing. He warns Yusuke to be careful, as Sensui is a tough one. Yusuke vows that he will not let Sensui mess up the Human Realm.

Manga differences

-In the manga, Botan is still in her school uniform. In the anime she wears a different outfit.

-In the manga, when Kuwabara charges, the water creature immediately captures him. In the anime, he avoids its first attack, and then punches it, then it gets him.

-The scene with Sensui and Toguro in this episode is not shown at this point in the manga, but it will be mentioned later on.

-In the manga, Keiko, Botan, Shizuru and Puu aren't around when Seaman wakes up. They are present in the anime.
