Seven people of ability are attempting to open a dark hole connecting the Demon Realm and the Human Realm. One of them, Seaman, has set his sights on Kuwabara, who has taken action independent of Yusuke. On a night of heavy rain, eerie liquid monsters have attacked him! Seaman, by mixing his blood in with other liquids, is able to create monsters. As his friends are captured one after the next, Kuwabara desperately tries to stand up to him. However, as he is now, without any spirit powers, he has no hope of winning!
Kuwabara Restored?! A Power Awakened
Yusuke returns home, but Genkai immediately yells at him for not going to Kuwabara. Yusuke told her before -he said he was going to the game center! Genkai tells him she didn't think he was that big of an idiot. Right now, Kuwabara can't use any of his spirit powers, so someone needs to watch out for him! Yusuke wonders why he should, when Kuwabara was the one who went off to enjoy himself at such a critical time.
He doubts the enemy would go after Kuwabara when he's not emitting any power. Genkai says Kuwabara's powers haven't disappeared, they've just gone dormant. She tells him that the next time he sees Kuwabara, he should pay close attention and probe out his energy. Kuwabara is about to break out of his shell -if nothing has happened to him, that is. The enemy probably knows of Kuwabara's state. Yusuke rushes off, and Botan follows him.
Meanwhile, Kuwabara gets up and tells Seaman to let his friends go. Kirishima tells Kuwabara this is bad and he should come back for them later, but he says he's going to save them right now. Seaman asks him what he thinks he's going to do when he's so beaten up.
Kuwabara starts moving forward, so Seaman has his creature attack him, and knock him down again. Seaman laughs and says it looks like Kuwabara has finally kicked the bucket. But Kuwabara starts getting up again. Seaman asks him if he still wants to go, and Kuwabara says they are his friends.
Seaman tells him he can't stand to watch his theatrics any longer, so it's time he finished this. He has his larger water creature pull Kuwabara's friends into itself, where they start to drown. Seaman laughs and says no matter how much they struggle, there's no way they'll ever be able to get out from inside there.
Kuwabara charges forward, and avoids another attack. He punches at the monster, but it reforms itself and submerges him.
Seaman tells him if that's how badly he wants to die, he'll grant him his wish. Inside the creature, Kuwabara starts punching it, but Seaman says the inside of the creature is his territory. It's a separate dimension of space, closed off from the outside. Once someone enters his territory, it's impossible to leave unless he's defeated. He tells Kuwabara he acted so tough, but now he can take that petty self-satisfaction of his to hell with him.
Kuwabara notices his friends are about to die, and starts punching harder. He thinks what's the matter with himself -if he can't unleash his true potential here, when will he ever do so? Seaman laughs again, and calls him an idiot -doesn't he understand that it's no use? He wants Kuwabara to ask to be saved, and tells him to cry out like a human.
There is then a small streak of light, which cuts Seaman's face. Seaman doesn't understand it, it shouldn't be possible for Kuwabara to attack him from within his territory. He then thinks of what Sensui said -they need someone with the ability to break through the peripheral field in subspace -someone with the ability to cut through dimensions.
As he receives more light cuts, he realizes that Kuwabara could be the one they were looking for. Suddenly, there is a large burst of energy from within the water creature. Nearby, Yusuke and Botan both sense some incredible spirit energy, and run off towards it.
Kuwabara summons a different type of sword, and swings it. It cuts through the creature, and also hits Seaman himself. Seaman realizes Kuwabara cut through his territory and attacked him...
...and he then collapses. His water creature explodes into nothing, and in doing so, releases Kuwabara and his friends. Kuwabara takes a look at his new sword, and then goes to confront Seaman. Seaman thinks he's going to die...
...as Kuwabara tells him he's caused him a lot of trouble. He'd like to tell him to rot in hell, but instead he picks him up and starts dragging him away, along with Kirishima, Okubo and Sawamura. He tells Seaman if he leaves him here, he'll probably die. Seaman doesn't understand why he'd do this after he tried to kill him. Kuwabara tells him he's not trying to save him because he wants to.
He continues dragging everyone off. Yusuke and Botan arrive back at Yusuke's apartment building, where the source of the spirit energy went. They round the corner and see Kuwabara and the others collapsed outside.
Kuwabara tells Urameshi to take care of the rest, and then loses conscious. Meanwhile, at Sensui's place...
Sniper enters, and Sensui says he's found someone with the ability to cut through the periphery field. They'll now move on to the next operation. Sniper says that's what he thought, so he brought Gourmet along. Sensui tells Toguro that the time has come for them to borrow his powers.
Toguro says to let him at them, as he'd do anything to kill them. He can't do anything in this body, and asks if they could just wait a little longer. However, Gourmet picks him out of the fish tank, and despite his pleas to stop, consumes him.
The next morning, Seaman wakes up, and finds himself in Yusuke's apartment. His wounds have been treated, and Yusuke explains that once he returned from looking for them, he found Kuwabara collapsed, having carried him and three others back here.
Kurama says that Sawamura, Kirishima and Okubo are all alright too. They told them about what went on, and he then did something that made them all forget about what happened. Yusuke tells Seaman he's now going to tell them everything he knows, and warns him that remaining silent won't do him any good -they have a friend who has the ability to read minds. Seaman says that they can't go on living -they have to die.
Kurama asks him what he means, and Seaman says he means all of mankind. They'd think so too, if they'd seen that video! They ask what the video is, and he says it's a videotape called the Black Chapters. The video will show the watcher in one viewing just how cruel the things humans have done up to now are. Kurama has heard of it, and says it's a top secret tape, kept in a giant materials hall in the Spirit Realm. The tape is a record of the crimes committed by the darker side of mankind, and it was something Hiei wanted.
The tape contains the most cruel and brutal crimes mankind has committed on it. It's meant to run for tens of thousands of hours.
Kurama knew the tape existed, but he has no idea it was related to this current situation. Seaman tells them they don't know how terrible the things humanity has done up to now are. They may act like they're good people, but if they saw that video, their sense of values would change. They'd say humanity should not live, that's why... before he can finish, Yusuke kicks his chair aside and asks him that's why what?
He asks if he thinks that's why all of mankind should be made in demon food. Seaman says that's right, and tells Yusuke he doesn't know what kind of creature he is. He just happened to end up living someplace peaceful, and asks him if he's ever seen a row of people being lined up just to be killed. Or a person being toyed with, whilst they knew they were going to die the next day. Or the smiling faces of the ones who were committing these crimes. Has he ever seen a mother whose own children were killed before her very eyes? Or seen the man who killed them, with a look of enjoyment on his face? Men can just laugh as they kill people, and he's sure that Yusuke could do that as well -he just hasn't realized it.
Having heard what he just said, Keiko has to be taken out of the room by Shizuru. Yusuke asks him if he's that kind of person too. Seamen says he is, and so is Yusuke, deep down. Yusuke says Kuwabara told him something -he asked him why he would save someone like Seaman. Kuwabara's response was, it looked like Seaman was asking to be saved. Yusuke says at the time, he laughed, but now he can understand. Kuwabara then made up some excuse about saving him just to get him to talk, but Yusuke doesn't think that was the real reason. Kuwabara may be the kind of person Seaman wouldn't like, but still, Kuwabara did look kindly on him.
Seaman cries and says that when he sleeps, he has dreams about that video. Just last night, the people who were getting killed were all looking at him, and it was almost enough to make him feel he had done it all. More and more, it makes him look at himself like he's some kind of filthy creature. It makes him feel like he wants to make amends for something, but he doesn't know what for. It was making him go crazy, and he wanted someone to tell him what to do -it didn't matter who it was. Kurama tells Yusuke they should let him get some rest, as he's harmless now.
Outside, Yusuke and Kurama talk about the tape. Kurama thinks a regular person would probably change their outlook on humanity before watching five minutes of it. Yusuke tells him not to scare him like that. Kurama tells him not to worry, as in the end, wickedness of heart is only one aspect of humanity. But it's no surprise Seaman would believe that that's all there is to humanity. The contents of the tape are just that violent and miserable. As a result, he's heard that there are only a limited number of people even in the Spirit Realm who can view it. Yusuke glares at him and thinks this guy is really trying to scare him.
Kurama then says about where he went yesterday. He went to the Spirit Realm, to speak to Koenma. Yusuke tells him he could have just used the Spirit Realm TV, but Kurama says this was something he just had to ask him directly. Koenma's response was vague, but in light of what Seaman has just said, it's all become clear: Koenma knows who the mastermind is. Yusuke can't believe it.
Kurama is about to explain what he's going to do next, but then notices Yusuke is gone. Yusuke is back on the Spirit Realm TV, and tells Koenma to get over here and clear this all up right now. Depending on the explanation he gets, he may quit this job! Koenma says now the tape has been used, it's all conclusive now. Yusuke wants to know why he hasn't said who the mastermind is until now. Koenma says it's true he didn't have any conclusive evidence, the real reason was that he didn't want to believe it.
He says that the mastermind's name if Shinobu Sensui -a man who was once also a spirit detective. He shows them a picture of Sensui from when he was a detective, when he was still in high school. Yusuke says that's definitely the guy he saw before, but when he saw him, he was a lot older.
Koenma says Sensui was a man with a strong sense of justice. It was about ten years ago when he disappeared, and right before he vanished, there was something he was always saying: is mankind worthy of living, and is it worth protecting? That was when the Black Chapters video went missing. Koenma wonders why Sensui has come back now, and tells Yusuke to be careful, as Sensui is a tough one. He then says he will be heading to the Human Realm now, and ends the call. Yusuke vows that he will not let Sensui mess up the Human Realm.
(I gave you a chance, Koenma. I waited until you had a replacement for me. How about we settle this? Let's see if humanity should live or die.)
Shinobu Sensui, the man who was once a spirit detective, has now revealed a glimpse of himself to Yusuke and the others!
