Synopsis
Kurama and Botan go to Meio private academy, where they find Kurama. They show him the note, and Kurama says they must find Hiei. Not knowing where to look, Botan brings some of Yusuke's spirit detective tools with her so they can try those. After at first not finding anything useful, Kurama asks if there's anything that would bring Hiei to them. Botan tries the mystic whistle, which creates sound waves ordinary humans can't hear. She blows it, and Hiei arrives by falling out of a tree, not happy with that horrible noise. Kurama explains the situation to him, but he's not interested, and thinks Yusuke got too cocky if he allowed himself to be captured. He doesn't want to help them, but he changes his mind after Botan says he will be formally acquitted if he assists. The group head of to the Yojigen mansion.
When they arrive, there is a note on the door, which states that once you're inside, you must not say the word "hot". The group move in, where they come across Kaito, who Kuwabara recognizes as one of the guys who called out Yusuke earlier. Kurama also knows of Kaito, as the two are in the same class at school. Kaito seems to know about them all, and even knows that they won the Dark Tournament. He also knows about Kurama's power over plants, and says he also has his own power which he discovered recently. Hiei tries to attack him, but his sword shatters on a barrier. Kaito reveals that this is part of his power, and no violence is allowed here. Only words have power.
Hiei decides to test him, and says "hot". In doing so, his soul is removed, and Kaito takes it. He says that now they've got two hostages, so what Kurama and the others want to do is up to them, they can fight or go home. Kuwabara suggests going on without Hiei, believing he got what he deserved for saying the taboo word. However Kaito points out his other friend, Yanagisawa, standing at the door behind him. It's the only door that leads further into the mansion, and Yanagisawa has locked it.
He also has the key. Kuwabara asks Yanagisawa to hand over the key and step aside, which of course Yanagisawa refuses. Kuwabara tries to attack him, but Kaito's territory projects him as well, resulting in Kuwabara punching a barrier. Yanagisawa pockets the key, whilst telling Kuwabara he has to be gentle here. Kurama realizes they'll have to play by Kaito's rules. Will Kurama be able to win this game, restoring Hiei's soul, and rescue Yusuke, who is unable to move?
-In the anime, Kurama is wearing a lab coat when Kuwabara and Botan arrive. He's not wearing one in the manga.
-In the manga, the guy who keeps bugging Kurama doesn't have the door fall on him, and he's the one who asks Kurama about his name. The anime changed it to Kuwabara kicking the door down so it falls on him, and then one of the other guys asks about his name.
-The manga does not have Kuwabara suggest getting Koenma to find Hiei for them.
-In the manga, Botan talks about the tools whilst she and Kuwabara are still at Kurama's school. In the anime, this was changed so she talks about them once she's arrived at the park.
-The short scene with Yusuke and Kido in it was not in the manga.
-The music used during this episode's recap segment is different than what's usually played.
