Synopsis

Yusuke and his friends are ready to leave the island, and are waiting for a boat to arrive to take them back home. Yusuke asks Puu if he can become Genkai again, but Kurama says it's probably impossible now. The Spirit Realm acts as a station between life and death, and is a relay point between the two. From there, you would start a journey, and Genkai would have now left on it. In the Spirit Realm, Koenma sees Toguro to judge him, but Toguro has already decided on what he wants. Toguro wants to go to Realm of Darkest Hell, a place where he will be put through agony for ten thousand years, and then repeat that for ten thousand times. At the end of it all, utter nothingness awaits him. Koenma says he does not have to do this, but Toguro states again that it's what he wants. Koenma approves it, and Toguro leaves. Ayame, a Spirit Realm guide, then appears, and has the information Koenma wanted. She says 3 months before the previous Dark Tournament held 50 years ago, a powerful demon called Kairen attacked Toguro's dojo, killing his pupils and inviting Toguro to become a guest for the tournament. Toguro disappeared for 3 months, then came back the day before the tournament with a hardened heart. His team reached the final, where Toguro killed Kairen.

As Toguro heads off to his Hell, he sees Genkai. Genkai tries to convince him that he's atoned enough already, but he claims he was grateful for what Kairen did, as it made him want to become stronger. She thinks he's lying, but he tells her to not concern herself over him any longer. Instead, he wants her to look out for Yusuke, as he could become stronger too -and he doesn't want Yusuke to end up like him. He then walks on, after telling Genkai he's been nothing but trouble for her. Genkai reverts to her older form and heads back to Koenma. Jorge asks what's going on, and Koenma says the wish of those who win the tournament must be granted, no matter what they wish may be. He recalls what Toguro had said to him just after Genkai's death. Toguro had told him any wish could be granted, and he must know pretty well what Urameshi's wish would be if he won. As even he wasn't sure what would happen, he told Koenma to keep Genkai's body carefully preserved. Back in the present, Koenma thinks that it's like they've been controlled by Toguro from start to finish.

Back on the island, everyone is about to leave when they hear someone calling out to them, telling them how coldhearted they all are. They turn around and see Genkai walking towards them! She asks if they're planning on leaving an old woman behind. Everyone runs over to her, and are glad to see she's back to life. She says to not go digging people's graves without them asking. The group get onto the boat, which then leaves the island. Whilst the curtain has fallen on the Dark Tournament, nobody could know that there is one person remaining on the island, who was planning to take over Sakyo's evil scheme.
