In the third match of the final round, with the score tied at one win and one loss, Kuwabara cut elder Toguro cleanly in half with the sword of trials. However, since Toguro can freely alter the shape of any part of his body, there was no damage done. To the contrary, he used his own body to heartlessly portray the death of Genkai. Kuwabara, injured and having the sword of trials taken away from him, was mercilessly attacked by the regenerated elder Toguro.
Explosion of Anger!
Kuwabara's Counterattack
Elder Toguro slams Kuwabara to the ground. Juri says Kuwabara is down, so she'll start a count. Toguro tells Kuwabara that his struggling is useless, and him being stuck on the ground in such an unsightly manner looks good.
He reminds Kuwabara that he's capable of moving his organs around at will, which means there's no way for him to attack successfully. And he can forget about being counted out -he intends to cut his head off and kill him. Kuwabara says he'll knock him flat, which Toguro finds to be an interesting claim. He then changes his arm into a blade.
Kuwabara notices his sword is on the ground, and knows he has to get it. Toguro tells him he doesn't know what his next plan is, but his time is over. He starts to run forward, but as he does, Kuwabara summons his regular spirit sword, and extends it so it reaches the sword of trials. Toguro looks behind him, as Kuwabara tells him to get to hell.
Toguro gets sliced to pieces in a second by the sword of trials, and it then returns to Kuwabara's hand. Kuwabara tells Juri to start a count.
Toguro says the count is unnecessary. He might have dropped his guard for a moment, but that attack has once again failed to do any lethal damage. He starts pulling himself back together. Keiko says that at this rate, no matter how many times Toguro's body is sliced up, it'll never be enough. Kuwabara gets ready to strike again.
Toguro tells him there's nothing he can do, and once he's back together, he'll finish him off. But Kuwabara's sword then changes its shape. Kuwabara says it's a good tool, as it changed its form to match his mood. Koto comments that Kuwabara's spirit sword is changing into an unusual shape.
Kuwabara tells Toguro it's true that without knowing where his weak spots are, there's no way for him to attack. But what would happen if he was to smash his entire body at once? He strikes Toguro with the sword, and totally destroys him.
Juri checks and confirms that Toguro is gone, so she announces Kuwabara as the victor. The girls are all glad Kuwabara has won, whilst Kuwabara doesn't celebrate -he just starts walking off the ring.
Koto isn't sure whether to call this an upset, but this gives the Toguro team one win and two losses. Yusuke tells Kuwabara how nice that was, and asks him if he's alright, but Kuwabara responds by punching him.
Kuwabara asks why Urameshi didn't tell him anything about Genkai getting killed, as it seems he was the only one left out of the loop. He asks him if he thought that if he'd told him Genkai was dead, it'd make him chicken out and run away. Kurama comes over and says the rest of them didn't hear about it from Yusuke either. They had all realized Genkai had died, so they didn't see the need to ask about it.
Yusuke says that Genkai died right before his eyes. He'd asked Koenma to take Genkai's place to help them out and braced himself for the worst, knowing that all they could do was fight with those of them who were left. But he still didn't want to believe that she was gone, and even now, he hopes she will suddenly somehow come back here. He felt like that if he admitted she was dead, she would never come, so he couldn't bring himself to say it.
He apologizes, then starts to walk to the ring. Kuwabara tells him one thing: win. Yusuke says he will. Koto says that it's upon them -the fight where blood will be met with blood, where the fuse will be lit on this life and death battle of revenge mingled with bitterness.
As Yusuke stares at Toguro, a silence falls over the stadium. But before Toguro can step onto the ring, Sakyo tells him he will go instead. The demons wonder what's going on -why would Sakyo be going?
Keiko thinks Sakyo can't possibly be thinking of fighting Yusuke. Sakyo takes Juri's mic, and says that before the fourth match begins, he'd like to make a wager. Naturally, he will be wagering that Toguro will be the winner... and he's willing to stake his life on it.
Kuwabara is surprised Sakyo said that, but Hiei understands. Hiei says Sakyo is making this the match that'll determine the tournament. Sakyo goes on to say that in other words, whoever wins this match will also receive the win from the fifth match, making it worth two wins. Such is the value of a battle between Toguro and Yusuke Urameshi. Sakyo says that whilst he is his team's captain, he's no martial artist, and if he fought it wouldn't satisfy the spectators. So instead, he's declaring here and now that he'll stake his life on Toguro's victory. If, that is, the captain of the other team and the head office also say yes to his terms.
Koenma says he'll stake his life on the victory of Yusuke. He tells Yusuke he's the one who got him caught up in all of this in the first place. But he's more concerned with Sakyo, who has the eyes of a person who has been through the gutter over and over again. He's a man who has ambitions that do not include self-preservation, and his destructive actions will not only engulf others around him, but also himself. Koenma says that Yusuke is the one person who can put a stop to Sakyo's actions.
Shizuru says it looks like the teams have come to an agreement, but Botan says it depends on what the head office decides. There is then an announcement stating that there will be a 10 minute recess, as the head office decides on what to do. Most of the spectators are furious, as they don't want a delay. Toguro and Sakyo walk off.
Shizuru notices them walking away, and tells the others that as things are about to get interesting, she's going to go and use the restroom now. In reality though she wants to see Sakyo, and sees him and Toguro head off to have a private discussion. Toguro says he's killed all of the administrative personnel, but Sakyo says all of this is just an act. This way, it's more exciting. He says they've finally come this far... it has been a long journey.
Sakyo says his parents were ordinary people, and he'd been born into what you could call a typical family. He was one of five siblings, and whilst his brothers and sisters probably became public servants, he's the only one who turned out like this. He says he enjoyed looking at blood and guts, and he started by dissecting frogs and fish, then went to dogs and cats. Only a few years after that, he started making humans his subjects.
But he soon got tired of it. Even now, the only thing that gets him fired up is gambling. He started gambling day in and day out, and as a result, he moved his way up through the underworld. He's already staked his own life in place of chips four times before, but he doesn't think that's very much. There were several other times, but when his opponents realized he was serious, they backed down. The ones who did accept were people like him, people whose brains had turned sour. Toguro asks why is he telling him this?
Sakyo laughs and says why indeed. Nearby, Shizuru has heard everything, but she doesn't reveal herself to them. They head back and look down at the ring. Sakyo says that up to now, he has never bet his life and lost. He supposes that stands to reason. But this time, he will win for sure. Toguro says he'd like to say thank you very much for placing his full trust in him, but he says he's doing this for nobody else -he fights for himself. Sakyo says he knows.
There is then another announcement: a decision has been reached, and the wishes of both parties will be observed. Whoever wins this match will be given two wins, and their team will be declared the champions. Juri tells both contestants to come forward, so Yusuke and Toguro step onto the ring. Juri is about to let them start, but then, everyone hears someone laughing.
Elder Toguro isn't dead, and leaps out of the ring. He says that Yusuke must be his opponent this time. Kuwabara can't believe this guy is still alive.
Elder Toguro says that attack from earlier did indeed hurt him, and it took him some time to pull himself back together. He tells Yusuke that his defeat is now assured, as there's no way he can beat his brother -even Genkai lost to him. At the moment where things were settled with his brother, Genkai definitely had her youth back. Which means that even though she used all of her power, she was unable to win, despite her being many times stronger than Yusuke is.
He then says that when she was young, Genkai was a fine lady. He thought so many times about how he wanted to take her for himself. But then she grew filthy and senile, and she's now dead. He then tells Yusuke that he must have seen the end of Genkai. As he keeps going on, his brother starts getting angry.
Toguro says he'll send Yusuke and the others to the same place as Genkai. Kuwabara is about to intervene, but Kurama tells his to stop. Kurama tells him that elder Toguro is going to disappear very soon. Toguro tells his brother he can use him as a weapon -he could become a sword, or a spear. Once they become one, no one can face them.
However, younger Toguro tells his brother to get out of the way. He then kicks his brother upwards. Elder Toguro dives back down, and can't believe he'd strike his own brother, after they both sold their souls together for the sake of their martial arts. He swears he'll make him pay for that!
Younger Toguro says that has nothing to do with it. He punches his brother into nothing with a single hit.
He says he doesn't remember selling his character as well, and won't let anyone get in his way. He asks his opponent if he's ready, as this fight will be one on one. Yusuke says he is.
