In a battle against the powerful Devilish Trainer team, there was dirty maneuvering by the tournament main office, and the Urameshi team was forced into disadvantageous matches. But thanks to Kuwabara's actions, upon gaining the power of Yukina's love and recovering, they won admirably, and have advanced into the semifinals. With just a brief moment to rest, Yusuke and the others fostered their spirits in preparation for their next battle.

The Masked Warrior's Stern Face

Botan watches Yusuke and Keiko, as Keiko tells Yusuke that she won't accept him losing. As Yusuke gives her the thumbs up, she walks off.

Yusuke calls out to Botan, asking what she wants. She's surprised he noticed her, but says that the egg is about to hatch. Yusuke has no idea what she's talking about -has she started raising chickens or something?

Botan yells that she's talking about the spirit beast egg. Yusuke still can't remember what that is, so Botan reminds him it was the trial Koenma gave to him after he died in exchange for bringing him back to life. Yusuke suddenly remembers Koenma told him about it a little while ago in the stadium. Botan says that Koenma went to the Spirit Realm to get the egg. Koenma says he's already got it, as he scares the two by suddenly appearing right next to them.

Yusuke notices how much bigger the egg is now, and Koenma says it's because the spirit beast is about to be born. Yusuke takes the egg, which starts to glow. Koenma says that the beast inside has been raised from the nourishment of Yusuke's heart. The shape of the beast will be a projection of his heart. Whether it's a virtuous beast or a devilish beast is up to Yusuke. If he's fought with a evil heart up until now, than a terrible monster will be born -and it'll devour him.

A bolt of lightning hits the egg, causing it to start cracking open. As the egg shell breaks up, a large bolt of energy shoots upwards.

By the time things return to normal, everyone wonders where the beast is. Botan suddenly finds it and points that it's on Yusuke's head. The "terrible beast" isn't quite so terrible: Puu!

Botan says something this cute must be Yusuke's alter ego, whilst Koenma yells Yusuke this is a good thing. Botan was so sure something like this was going to be born. As she laughs, Yusuke gets fed up and hits her on her head -she tells him he didn't have to do that! Yusuke just thinks that he's as angry is he is relieved. He had been nervous a devil was going to appear, after all.

Things don't get much better when Yusuke goes back to the hotel, as everyone laughs at him there. Kuwabara tells Yukina to look at Urameshi's goofy face, at which point Yusuke hits him as well. Yusuke thinks he's laughing too much, but Kuwabara immediately asks Yukina to use the power of their love to heal this lump for him.

Shizuru hits him as well, and tells him now he's flirting too much. The ladies then give Puu some attention and think he's really cute, whilst Kuwabara tells Urameshi that the semifinals will be starting the day after tomorrow. Yusuke is annoyed, as this means there was no reason for them to fight the two consecutive matches they had to fight in.

Puu then lands on him, and Keiko tells him that it looks like Puu has taken quite a liking to the top of his soft head. Yusuke says no matter how many times he chases Puu off, he comes back. Botan then points out how late it is, and Shizuru says they should be getting back to their room. As they head off, Botan says the match that will determine who their next opponents are will start at 10. Kuwabara also heads off to his room, but as they leave, a few of them come back to get one last laugh at Yusuke.

The next morning, the match between the Reverse Bedtime Stories team and the Gokai Six team begins. Kuro Momotaro defeats his opponent with a series of rapid punches, whilst Makintaro slices his opponent in two with his axe blade fist technique. Finally, Onji sends his opponent flying with a super high jump kick.

Koto says this is a surprise: the match only started two minutes a go, yet the Reverse Bedtime Stories team has been victorious over the Gokai Six team. Onji says victory is theirs, but asks the two remaining fighters on the opposite team if they'd like to keep fighting. Unsurprisingly, they don't, and admit they're no match for them.

URAOTOGI TEAM

(Reverse Bedtime Stories Team)

Shishiwakamaru says they'll win this tournament, and then says next comes those guys -as he points up to where Kurama and Hiei are.

He and his team then leave, but Hiei think what Shishiwakamaru just said was laughable. Yusuke and the others then turn up, only to find that the match they've come to watch is already over. Koto announces that the first match of the semifinals tomorrow will be between the Urameshi and Reverse Bedtime Stories teams.

Kuwabara can't believe the Uraotogi team won in the five minutes it took them to get here, but Kurama says it only took them two minutes, to be precise. Hiei says it was because their opponents were just too weak. He then asks what that ridiculous thing on Yusuke's head is. Yusuke doesn't even want to explain, and instead asks if Kurama's injuries are alright. Kurama says he'll be fine, and will have recovered by tomorrow. Hiei tells him to stop putting up with it for his pride's sake, but Kurama thinks it would be a fine contest to see who out of the two of them could put up with it the most.

Kuwabara then has a great idea: have Yukina treat Kurama! He then says that Yukina actually came here to look for her older brother, and once this tournament's over, he's going to help her search for him. Kurama thinks that sounds like trouble, and asks Hiei if they should lend a hand too. Yusuke says he'll help as well. As Hiei bites his tongue, Kuwabara wonders what's going on, do they know something they're keeping secret from him? Yusuke says that's not the case and laughs it up, but then notices the masked fighter staring at him.

It's because the Toguro team have appeared and are at the opposite side of the stadium. The two teams stare at each other for a few seconds.

As the crowd chant Toguro's name, the younger Toguro brother points at Yusuke, then points at his own neck, challenging him to come up here and take his head. Yusuke gestures back at him.

The Toguro team walk off. The masked fighter tells Yusuke that at least he can give and take it like a man, although he wonders what she means by that. Kuwabara says he didn't notice them before, they must have been holding down their demon energy. And now he's scared, because he can't believe he once fought against Toguro before.

Koto then announces the start of the next match: the Gorenja team versus the Kido Sentai team. The first fight begins, with Momorenjya easily overwhelming her opponent. The Urameshi team don't bother watching however, and head off. Yusuke tells Kuwabara not to have such dark thoughts. He thinks Kuwabara can now only tell how fearsome Toguro is because he's gotten so much stronger himself. The Reverse Bedtime Stories team then show up, and Shishiwakamaru hopes they haven't forgotten about them.

Kuro Momotaro, Makintaro, Ura Urashima

Shishiwakamaru, Onji

Yusuke asks them what they want, as no matter how much they bow their heads, they won't be holding back in the matches tomorrow. Shishiwakamaru tells them to prepare themselves, as they'll be the stepladders that will allow their names to spread far and wide. As they walk off, Yusuke tells them they aren't even under consideration, whilst Kuwabara thinks they're a bunch of clowns. Yusuke thinks if they wanted to make themselves known, they should have gone on TV.

Shishiwakamaru turns around and tells them he'll make sure they regret those words. They then head off, but Kuwabara says that team is no match for them. He didn't feel any demon energy that compared to the Toguro team. Yusuke thinks they'll just be a warm up. The masked fighter then tells him not to be so conceited. Botan walks back with some drinks, but drops them all when Yusuke punches a wall. He wants to know why the masked fighter has been staring at him like that for a while, and asks if she has something she wants to tell him.

She says that the captain of the Toguro team is Toguro, and the captain of the Urameshi team of Yusuke Urameshi. She has doubts as to whether Yusuke has enough power to stand up to Toguro. Kuwabara thinks they shouldn't be falling out at a time like this, but the masked fighter tells Yusuke to step outside. He follows her, but Botan tells Yusuke to stop. Hiei tells her to leave them alone, as he doesn't think this is a big deal.

Kuwabara worries it could become a big deal, because if they fight each other seriously, they could both end up dying. Hiei says there is nothing they can do about that, whilst Kurama says even if they both fail to come back, there's no way they can back out of this fight. Botan doesn't thinks this is the time to be talking like that, but nobody responds. She tells them they don't have a shred of teamwork between them.

She runs out, as Puu goes with her. Meanwhile, the masked fighter takes Yusuke out of the stadium, and they head into the forest nearby. Yusuke wonders if she's going to reveal that she's one of Toguro's spies or something. The masked fighter says that it's not as if she doesn't know Toguro. But she then, in a totally different voice, tells Yusuke to just shut up and follow her.

She starts walking off again, so Yusuke follows her. Back at the stadium, Botan goes to Koenma, and explains what has gone on. Koenma says this must mean that the time has at last come for the final trial to be given. Jorge and Botan wonder what this means.

Elsewhere, Sakyo asks Toguro what's wrong, why isn't he watching any of the matches? Toguro says it's because whoever wins these fights, they won't be any match for them. Sakyo mentions that there seems to be some dissension beginning in the Urameshi team over something or other. Toguro sees this as a sign that the masked fighter must be advancing to the final stage. Meanwhile, Koto announces that Kirenja has won his fight, meaning that the Gorenja team will advance to the semifinals.

The masked fighter tells Yusuke that maybe she should have told him this from the beginning, but there a few circumstances that led to her keep this a secret until now. She removes her mask, revealing that she's Genkai!

Yusuke is confused, because if she's Genkai, then who was that young girl he saw during the fight against Ichigaki's team? Genkai reveals that young girl was her. Yusuke wonders what is going on, but Genkai says that for a dimwit like him, seeing this once is better than hearing it a hundred times. She points at a rock and tells Yusuke to fire a full power spirit gun shot at it. Yusuke wants to know more about her, but she threatens to knock him down flat if he doesn't fire. Yusuke does as he's told...

...and the rock is destroyed. Yusuke thinks he's in perfect form, but Genkai tells him that blast was nothing to write home over. Yusuke tells her if she's so good, she should try it instead. He's not pleased that now she's revealed herself, she's already acting all high and mighty. She tells him to watch closely, as she walks off and stands before a much bigger rock.

Yusuke says that rock is a ten times bigger than the one he shot, but Genkai just tells him that the way he is now, he will lose. Not just to Toguro... but to her, as well. As she prepares her spirit gun, she changes to her younger form. She then fires her spirit gun...

...and the blast totally obliterates the rock. Yusuke thinks her sprit gun is in a whole different league when compared to his own. Genkai explains that when the spirit wave is raised to its highest level, the cells are activated, and the body is temporarily changed. In her case, it changes her appearance to when she was 20 years old, which was the time she was at her best.

As she changes back to her usual self, she says she will now present Yusuke with a trial. The final, greatest trial she will ever give him. Yusuke wonders what this trial could be.
