Synopsis

Bakken continues to beat up the unconscious Kurama, until Risho, another member of his team, tells him to stop. Risho points out to Bakken that Yusuke is ready to kill him with a spirit gun blast, and doesn't care about the tournament rules. Bakken tosses Kurama out of the ring, and is declared the winner. Yusuke is the next one to fight, and the next match begins. Bakken uses a technique called shura ninjitsu: hakuen no kiri (asura ninja technique: vapor of white smoke), which creates a white fog that covers the entire stadium.

Bakken uses this to make himself disappear, and then manages to take Yusuke by surprise a few times, landing a few punches on him. But Yusuke laughs him off, calling his punches weak and saying that he's clearly nowhere near as strong as Jin. Yusuke uses his spirit gun to blast the ring floor, creating a large explosion that knocks Bakken back, and clears away all of his fog. Bakken tries to strike Yusuke, but Yusuke punches him in his gut with such force, it breaks several of his ribs.

Bakken pleases for mercy but then attacks Yusuke with a rock, but fails to do any damage. Yusuke decides to pay him back for what he did to Kurama, and sends him flying off the ring and into a wall. Yusuke is declared the winner of the fourth match, but he doesn't celebrate and instead goes to check on Kurama. Kurama says his injuries will be alright, but the plant he put inside himself will take some time to die. Yusuke tells him to rest, as he'll deal with the remaining opponents.

At the medical tent, Ruka's peripheral realm is having, for reasons unknown, a healing effect on Hiei's right arm. The fifth match is then due to start, with Yusuke now having to face Jin. However, Jin turns out to be a much nicer guy then Bakken, and he even tells Yusuke he was pleased when he beat up his nasty teammate. Yusuke thinks he's going to enjoy this, as the fight begins. Jin reveals he can fly, and is able to land the first attack of the match. Yusuke gets back up and says he's going to fully enjoy this. But the odds are against him -not only must he fight Jin, but he'll also have to face Risho. Can he defeat them both by himself?

Manga differences

-In the manga, Koto doesn't try to stop Bakken from continuing to attack Kurama, nor does Bakken slap her out of the ring.

-The scene where Kuwabara tries to get up, but falls down immediately, wasn't in the manga.

-Yusuke fires his spirit gun at the directly at the ground in the manga, in the anime, he fires it in front of him.

-The part where Bakken smashes Yusuke over the head with a rock was not in the manga.

-Any scenes this episode has with Koenma, Jorge, Sakyo, Butajiri, Toguro, Keiko and Shizuru are not in the manga.

Notes

-During one of the crowd shots, there is this certain chant that can be heard. It'll be heard again in clearer quality in later episodes, and it was sampled from this. KoF fans might recognize it, as it is also used the intro for The King of Fighters '94.
