Synopsis
Kurama explains to Yusuke that the team they are facing are some of the most feared Demon Realm ninjas. Jin of the Devilish Trainer team steps up onto the ring, and meets Yusuke, where the two decide the terms of the fight. They agree to one on one elimination, but before the fight can start, there is an announcement. Due to the Urameshi team having to fight consecutive battles, it's been decided a medical check is needed. Ruka, a nurse, takes Hiei and the masked fighter over to her medical tent to check on them.
However she reveals she's actually a periphery master, who has trapped Hiei and the masked fighter in a periphery realm. Hiei and the masked fighter are currently too weak to break through it, and they are declared as unfit to fight. Elsewhere in the stadium, the owner of the Devilish Trainer team, Butajiri, is the one responsible for making the Urameshi team fight again so soon, and getting Ruka involved. Jin decides he doesn't want to fight right now, and tells someone else to go in his place.
Gama decides to fight first, and goes against Kurama. Kurama tells Yusuke that he will try to get their opponents to reveal their secrets, but the rest will be up to Yusuke. The fight begins and Gama goes on the offensive, and eventually manages to use a brush to paint a curse binding on one of Kurama's legs. This acts as a lead weight, stopping Kurama from running around. Gama quickly follows it up by painting curse bindings on Kurama's other limbs, using a technique called gokujo no shou (prison lock of cosmetics).
He is about to attack Kurama and kill him, but Kurama suddenly hits him with his rose whip. Despite not being able to use his arms and legs, he has the rose whip attached to his hair. Gama is cut up and badly injured, and is bleeding heavily. But he continues to fight on, causing his blood to go everywhere -including going on Kurama.
As Gama collapses from his injuries, he tells Kurama this is his nen baku fu ju no sho (secure binding seal curse of cosmetics) technique, and his makeup is made from his own blood. This technique has bottled up Kurama's spirit energy temporarily, and the technique will continue to work after his death. Gama then dies, but the next fighter for the Devilish Trainer team, Toya, appears and says Gama's death won't be in vain -he will avenge him.
-The scenes with Koenma and Jorge in this episode are not in the manga.
-In the manga, Mitamura, En, Ryo and Kai are seen reacting to the announcement that Hiei and the masked fighter have been declared unfit to fight (and say how unfair it is). This is not shown in the anime.
-Butajiri does not appear in the manga at this point, he appears a little later on. The anime has him make an earlier appearance.
