The Urameshi team fights M1, M2 and M3, humans who have been turned into killing machines, in a battle royale! However, they were only young men with pure hearts who fell into a trap laid by the unscrupulous Dr. Ichigaki, in order to save their own master's life. Ichigaki is manipulating them at his will via the blood-controlling nodes on their backs. Sympathetic to his opponents, and having ceased attacking, Kuwabara had been knocked out. Can Yusuke possibly overcome this predicament?

Ambition Crushed!
A Baptism by Light

Yusuke thinks it's terrible his opponents have to be controlled by a lowlife like Ichigaki. As his spirit energy returns and rises, the masked fighter thinks how Yusuke's energy increases with his anger. Yusuke rushes forward and punches down M2.

M3 uses his hound claw, but Yusuke can now fully see the move -and how it's like a spirit energy bomb. He avoids getting hit by jumping, and confronts M1 in the air. M1 is about to throw out his ring projectiles, but Yusuke kicks him before he gets the chance.

As Yusuke descends, he can see M2's move -it's like he's using his spirit energy to create a long bo staff. He avoids getting hit by M2 and lands near him. Koto comments that it's like Urameshi has been faking it up until now.

The masked fighter thinks spirit energy has returned throughout Yusuke's body, and she's never seen anyone recover so quickly. Yusuke leaps up and prepares to fire his spirit gun, and tells his opponents to go ahead and wait for him -he'll send them a proper apology from Hell.

But before he can fire, the masked fighter leaps up and tells him not to do it -and by placing her hand on his arm, Yusuke finds he can't move his arm. They land back on the ring, and she says she'll take care of this. Jorge wonders what the masked fighter could be planning to do, as it's not the Ichigaki team's fault that they are being controlled. Koenma is sure the masked fighter must be having some deep thoughts right now.

Kuwabara asks what's happening, and Botan tells him the masked fighter plans to fight all three of the opposing team. He says she must not kill them, and Botan says of course she won't -it's Ichigaki who is to blame for this. Ichigaki laughs and says there's no way the masked fighter could kill them, as they are humans, even if they are humans who are being controlled. The masked fighter goes into a stance, and starts using a spell.

This generates a tremendous amount of spirit energy, which rises high into the air. Ichigaki still isn't concerned, and thinks this technique is just a ruse. He tells his team to attack.

The Ichigaki team rush forward, as Koto comments that they are attacking the defenseless masked contestant all at once. The Ichigaki team leap up and descend, with their killing techniques at the ready.

The masked fighter suddenly creates a spirit energy dome around herself, which expands and hits M1, M2 and M3. They get stuck to it, allowing the masked fighter to leap up...

...and hit a certain pressure point on each member of the team. By doing this, the blood-controlling nodes burst off of their backs.

The three fighters all crash down back onto the ring. Yusuke says she snuffed out their spirit energy in one instant. Ichigaki can't believe she killed them, and how she did it so easily.

Yusuke asks her why she killed them, as their spirit energy has vanished. She says if she hadn't of used that technique, she was the one who would have been killed. Koto runs over and comments that the team is down, and as they all fell at the same time, she'll take their counts together. She reaches 10 and counts them out.

She says that the Urameshi team have won, and this means they have advanced to the second round of the tournament finals. But Yusuke tells her to shut up, as the aftertaste of this win is bad enough. Kuwabara says that if the Ichigaki team has died, then nothing has come of this.

Yusuke goes over to Ichigaki, and tells him he's definitely going to pay for this. Hiei and Kurama tell him he should understand this, this cruel thing he has done. Ichigaki tries to bargain with them, by saying that if he dies, then his team's master dies as well. He's the only one who know where he is, and how to produce the antidote for his illness. Kurama asks if that's so, and then points out that Mitamura is right behind them.

Ichigaki asks what Mitamura is doing here, and Hiei explains they asked his assistant. Earlier on, Hiei was interrogating M5, and got him to reveal where Mitamura was being held. It turned out he was in a cave on the island.

Kurama and Hiei went off to get him. Back in the present, Hiei says that Kurama looked at Mitamura's symptoms, and was able to create an antidote easily. As Ichigaki slowly walks away from them, Kurama suggests he uses some virulent herbs on him now. Yusuke asks Ichigaki if he's ready for this.

However Ichigaki pulls out a syringe, and asks them if they thought he'd really be done in by the likes of them. He injects himself, and says his terror will be made known to them, as he starts to mutate...

...into a giant demon. Koto comments on how this can be, as Ichigaki has turned himself into a tremendous monster. Ichigaki says they dared to ruin his precious experimental subjects, so now they can witness the power of his spectral battle solution.

He reveals he can extend his arms, and tries to crush Yusuke, Hiei and Kurama. As they jump around to get out of the way, they all end up on the ring. Ichigaki tries to crush them again...

...and one of his strikes grazes Yusuke. Before Kurama can go and help, he has to back off to avoid being hit by the doctor. Hiei is about to make a move, but Yusuke gets up and tells him to wait. He's going to be the one who kills him.

Ichigaki tells Yusuke he'll die now, and sends out both his arms at him. But Yusuke avoids being hit by either of them, and then grabs onto them. Boosting his strength with spirit energy, Yusuke pulls Ichigaki's arms up...

...causing him to be lifted into the air. Yusuke jumps up and kicks Ichigaki three times, knocking him back. He tells him that that was for his three team members.

He then jumps and says this is for their master, as he punches Ichigaki in the face. For his next punch, he says this is for Kuwabara, who let himself be beaten without defending himself. Ichigaki gets punched in the face again, as Yusuke says this is for himself.

He delivers one final punch, which is so powerful it sends Ichigaki crashing into a stand. Yusuke tells him to think about what he's done, now that he's knocked him to pieces.

Koto comments that the crowd are in awe of that punch, and have fallen silent. Mitamura says that even by defeating Ichigaki, it won't bring those three back. He doesn't know what he can say to apologize to En, Ryo and Kai, but the masked fighter then tells him there's nothing to grieve over -it's not like they're dead.

En, Ryo and Kai suddenly all wake up, and get up. They're surprised to find that they're all still alive.

Yusuke can't believe it either, as he was sure that their spirit energy had completely vanished. The masked fighter thinks that this turned out alright -it has been twenty years since she used that technique, so she was a bit concerned. When En, Ryo and Kai see their master approaching, they suddenly turn their backs on him, and ask him not to come closer.

They say that by their hands, they have committed misdeeds for which they can't fully atone for. They don't feel they can even show their faces to him now, and say they would rather be killed as they are. The masked fighter tells them not to say such ridiculous things, and explains the technique she used earlier was one of the five grand techniques of the spirit wave, known as the fist of cleansing. It's a harsh technique, where their own hearts were asked to pass judgment on their individual guilt, and their bodies asked to impose punishment. If their hearts were corrupt, then their bodies would have been destroyed. But if their hearts were pure, it would have purged the evil parts of their bodies.

She tells them that they defeated those blood-controlling nodes by themselves. She did nothing more than give them the chance to do so. Mitamura says he believed in them -in their true, real souls. Their bodies may have been temporarily taken away from them, but deep in their hearts, they remained unclouded.

En, Ryo and Kai turn around and welcome their master back. They tell him they are grateful that he's feeling well, and he tells them the same goes for them -their safety is the most important thing to him. As the others watch, Yusuke thinks that was one hell of a technique. Kurama says everything has turned out fine.

Jorge and Koenma are crying like babies over the whole ordeal, whilst Kuwabara says he's glad he didn't fight back -it makes it worth being knocked out. Yusuke goes over to check on Kuwabara, and finds out from Botan that he has some injuries that will take him quite a bit of time for him to recover his strength from.

Kai then runs over, and says he has a favor to ask. He wants to make up for what they did to Kuwabara, and asks if he can fight in his place, as a member of the Urameshi team. Yusuke tells him he's glad he feels that way, but he can't do it. If he did, Kuwabara would send him flying. And besides, they only get one alternate, and that's only if somebody dies. Kuwabara says he's not dead yet, as Botan and Kurama carrying him off.

Yusuke tells Kai to not worry about them, and instead go and take care of his master. Kai notices En and Ryo helping their master, and he tells Yusuke thanks and good luck, before running off to join them.

The crowd aren't happy that the Urameshi team won again, and say they won't be satisfied until at least one of them bites the dust. There is then an announcement from the administrative head office, which is heard over the loudspeakers. The voice says that they are now going to hold the third round of the tournament, and the first fight will be the Urameshi team against the Devilish Trainer team.

Yusuke runs up to Koto and asks what she means by this, but she politely explains that she's only the emcee, hired to keep things going according to schedule as directed. The crowd are very happy with this, as the Urameshi team is worn out, so they want them to suffer and die.

The masked fighter thinks this is bad, as after using that technique, she doesn't have much spiritual power left. Toguro has been watching and says that's cruel for Urameshi, but he'll have to overcome this. Yusuke tells his team they'll do this, and he's still worked up over what happened with Ichigaki.

Kuwabara asks Botan to take him over to where Urameshi and the others are. She tells him he's got to heal first, but he says he's a member of the Urameshi team, he can't be lying down here whilst the rest of them are fighting. Back at the ring, Koto asks the Devilish Trainer team to step forward. They suddenly appear from a tornado of green energy.
