At Koenma's order, Yusuke and Kuwabara stormed their way into Gonzo Tarukane's mansion, where they tackled a band of demons. Then, after a fierce battle, they finally defeated the Toguro brothers. They succeeded in rescuing Hiei's sister Yukina from the humans whose hands were filthy from money and greed.

Invitees To The Dark Tournament

As Yukina walks away, Kuwabara runs after her and asks her to wait. He asks if she's going no matter what, and she says that the ice maidens have a practice of not living outside the Land of Glaciers. She thanks him for what he did, before turning back around and walking off.

Sometime later, Kuwabara's friends talk about their leader, who's gotten quiet all of a sudden. They bet on what's wrong -Sawamura thinks he's been effected by a movie, whilst Kirishima thinks he got jilted by a woman. Yusuke tells him he got it right, whilst Botan says he wasn't actually jilted. She thinks it's nice, it's the ultimate long-distance love affair! Kuwabara then walks off without saying anything.

As his friends follow him, Botan tells Yusuke that this time around, it looks like Kuwabara was left with a bad taste in his mouth. Yusuke says it's the same case for Hiei, who didn't tell Yukina that he was her sister. As Yukina walked off, Yusuke and Hiei were also watching. Yusuke asked Hiei if he was going to let her go like this, and Hiei said she doesn't know him. He felt there was no need for her to know him from here on either. They had different mothers in the first place. Yusuke was surprised, as Hiei had spent so long searching for her, but Hiei said he was someone who was once on the Spirit Realm's wanted list. He didn't think Yukina would be delighted to know she had a brother like that. And so, he said he was fine watching her from the shadows. Yusuke asked if Hiei got his evil eye just to find her, but Hiei said that was nonsense.

Back in the present, Botan said things turned out alright, as Hiei didn't kill Tarukane. She was worried that if he did, she would have had to have Yusuke arrest Hiei. It was heavily discussed in the Spirit Realm whether or not they should have told Hiei that Yukina had been imprisoned. That was why they distracted him by having him deliver the video tape. Yusuke thinks that wasn't a good idea, as it was down to chance if Hiei decided to actually watching the tape himself. Botan tells him that for now, he doesn't have any orders, so he can take it easy. She then shoves him forward and says so long...

...as nearby, Keiko is waiting. Botan returns to the Spirit Realm, where she explains to Koenma that the mission has been completed safely. Koenma tells her good work, but she says for a time she was really worried about what would happen. She was genuinely resentful of Koenma for making Yusuke and Kuwabara fight such a strong opponent! Koenma tells her he knew that Yusuke and Kuwabara's powers had increased, which is why he did it.

Just as Botan tells him she should have known he's foreseen everything, Jorge walks in and ruins the moment by asking Koenma what he should do with the funeral clothes and memorial offering he had prepared. After seeing that Botan is glaring at him, Koenma tries to explain that he was just preparing for the worst.

She grabs him and he says it's ok, as Yusuke and Kuwabara won after all. Just then, another ogre enters, saying something terrible has happened regarding the Toguro brothers. He has a video one of their agents sent them, and puts it in the player. The video shows the defeated brothers...

...are not dead. They revive and get up, with the elder brother reverting to his human form. One of the monitors turns back on, as Sakyo appears and tells them that was a marvelous performance. The younger Toguro says that his ears are sharp, once he heard his opponent's strategy, he had to make use of it. But losing on purpose builds up more stress than he thought.

They then notice Tarukane is laughing hysterically to himself. He asks Sakyo if he's sure it was right to let Yukina get away, as she was an important commodity as far as the trade routes Tarukane was secretly selling to. Sakyo tells him it doesn't matter, as compared to the grand enterprise he's about to undertake, she'll have no more value then the pebbles along the shore.

Toguro is relieved to hear that, and asks for a favor from his true employer. He wants to fight those two once again in a martial arts tournament, but this time, he wants to fight seriously. Sakyo tells him that was his intention from the beginning, as those two are going to be important guests at the upcoming Dark Tournament. Toguro realizes getting those two to fight with them was Sakyo's real objective in this, and Sakyo tells him he's sharp. He also asks what his impressions of them are, now that he has fought them. Toguro thinks Urameshi gets stronger the more you hit him.

Sakyo tells him the tournament is in two months, and asks for one more thing: dispose of the trash up above. Tarukane is laughing about how he is ruined, just as Toguro jumps up and kicks his head off.

Having seen all this in Spirit Realm, Koenma realizes that Toguro intends to invite Yusuke and the others as guests to the tournament. Botan asks what will happen, but Koenma doesn't answer.

Meanwhile, Keiko is shopping for clothes. Yusuke doesn't want to hang around here, but Keiko tells him after they're done shopping, they'll go and have some cake, then they're going to Disneyland. Yusuke really doesn't like the idea of going to Disneyland, and is about to sneak off, when Keiko catches him and asks where he's going. She wonders if he's trying to leave her behind, like he did last time. Yusuke realizes it looks like he's off to Disneyland after all, so he and Keiko leave the store.

As they head out, they hear some commotion nearby. Yusuke decides to go and take a look, and goes through the crowd of people. A policeman warns people to stay back, as it's too dangerous to get any closer. Yusuke sees that part of a building has just been destroyed, with two large chunks seemingly punched out of it.

Yusuke thinks something's up and starts to back away, but as he leaves the crowd, he sees a big guy on a bike behind him. He asks who he is, and the rider asks if he's forgotten him already -clearly he didn't make much of an impression. He takes off his helmet...

...revealing that he is the younger Toguro brother. He asks Yusuke what's the matter, as he looks like someone has pulled the rug out from under him. Yusuke was certain he'd killed him, but Toguro does a quick punch, which somehow cuts Yusuke's clothes despite it not making physical contact.

Toguro tells Yusuke to come with him, as they need to talk -he wouldn't want anything to happen to his cute girlfriend, would he? Kuwabara arrives at the scene, just in time to see Yusuke following Toguro.

Later on, Toguro and Yusuke arrive at the construction site for a large building. Toguro says that his previous defeat was just an act, but that's all over now. He has a personal matter with Yusuke, but Yusuke tells him to cut the vain chatter. As he says this, his body is shaking, and Toguro asks if he is afraid of him. Yusuke tells him not to be ridiculous, but Toguro tells him to stop putting up this useless brave front. His instincts are to fear him, and knowing an opponent's true fears is part of one's strength. He removes his jacket and tells Yusuke that he can become much, much stronger. It's why he's decided to show this to him now -the real him.

Toguro powers up, and says that when he fought Yusuke previously, he was at about 20% of his power. He powers up some more and smashes apart a pillar with a single punch. He says this is about 60%, and then starts jumping around the place, smashing more pillars to piece with single strikes.

Yusuke can't keep up with his movements, and watches as the entire building starts to come down. Sometime later, Yusuke pulls himself out of the rubble.

Toguro asks him if he was too scared to even run away. He then gets behind Yusuke so quickly it's as if he teleported. He says that, two months from now, a martial arts tournament will be held. This tournament is where the rich and powerful people, who use the underworld to manipulate things from behind the scenes...

...gather themselves, and those among them who are confident that they are the strongest will participate in teams of five members. The humans participate in it for the money and the amusement, whilst the demons are in it for the blood and the hedonism. Yusuke and Kuwabara are to be guests at the Dark Tournament, and if Yusuke declines, he'll kill him right now. He tells him to become stronger, as if his life depended on it, as winning is the only way to survive. Toguro then walks off.

Yusuke drops to his knees, and thinks about how he couldn't even move whilst Toguro was there. On another building, Kuwabara has been watching, and is now fearful of Toguro's awesome power. At Toguro heads off, he looks up...

...and sees Kurama and Hiei are watching. He tells them they must have heard about what's going on already, and intends to have both of them also participate in the Dark Tournament as well. They will be entered as members of Urameshi's team, of course. Once they'd sided with humans, they can never disassociate themselves from them. Before he walks off, he tells them they can select their fifth member, and should find themselves the strongest ally they can.

Yusuke goes to see Genkai. Meanwhile, Kuwabara trains with Hiei. Hiei wields a bamboo sword, and Kuwabara takes several hits before falling. Hiei thinks that this is useless, no matter how many times they do it.

Yusuke and Genkai jump up a cliff, but Yusuke is wearing weights on his ankles. He slips and falls, but manages to grab onto the cliff. But Genkai jumps down and, as she's told him before, does show him any mercy. She starts punching him a lot.

Kurama asks Kuwabara if he is going to enter the tournament no matter what, and Kuwabara says he is. Kurama tells him that Hiei was holding back before, as he thought of Kuwabara as a human. But his training will be even tougher than Hiei's. Kuwabara says he doesn't care, as he wants to become stronger. Kurama's training begins.

Yusuke is still being punched, but he manages to do a kick. Genkai jumps up and evades it, before asking him if that hurt. She says that if he wants to become stronger, then he needs to keep up with her for all he's worth. Yusuke screams out and jumps up.

"And so, two months went by..."

Several groups of demons are waiting near the sea. They talk about how they've been waiting for this -the day where they get to run wild in their true forms. They also argue about who is going to win the tournament.

Kurama, Kuwabara and Hiei are also there, although Kuwabara is wondering where Urameshi is. Kurama also points out that they haven't chosen a final member for their team either. Hiei tells Kuwabara to stop worrying about others, and asks if he has gotten the least bit better. Kuwabara tells him he'll have to wait and see. But he thinks that he's going to win this tournament, and get his name spread throughout the underworld. That should keep any demons from ever getting close to Yukina again. Just then, the captain of the boat that's taking everyone to the tournament's location arrives. He says it's time for them to set sail.

Kuwabara asks him to wait a little longer, as one of the guests is late. The captain says that there is a rule for that: if a guest has fled, an assassin will be sent after them. But then Yusuke appears, along with someone else. He says he's sorry for being late, but he's really worn out. Kuwabara asks him if he's alright, as he seems to be staggering. But Hiei then goes up to him, and suddenly attacks.

Yusuke manages to evade every swipe, and stops his last strike ny grabbing his sword. Yusuke says that's quite the greeting, and Hiei is happy to see his skills have become a bit more capable. Kuwabara thinks he's become a lot more capable, but Kurama tells him he's also improved, as he was able to follow their movements just now. Hiei asks if the runt over there is their fifth member.

The masked fighter doesn't speak, so Kuwabara runs over to have a look at him. He asks Urameshi if he's sure about this, but Yusuke says this person is their strongest ally around. Hiei thinks just him and Yusuke will be enough, but then the captain says that they'll set sail now.

Having taken on demons who seek blood and are full of ambition, the boat finally departs. It's destination is Kubikukuri Island, a solitary isle deep at sea. It is the grounds for the Dark Tournament. What sort of battles are waiting for Yusuke and the others there?
