Synopsis
Botan and Yusuke arrived in the Spirit World, where they meet Enma Jr -better known as Koenma. He reveals to Yusuke what his trial to return to life will be: an egg from a spirit beast. Koenma explains that the the beast inside it will grow by consuming the energy that is radiated from a human's heart. Depending on the energy of the person, the beast inside it will become an devil or angel. If his heart was to continue radiating evil power, he can expect a monster to come out of the egg. It would consume his spiritual body, and that would be the end of him -it'd be impossible for him to return to life. Koenma will keep Yusuke's real heart beating, but the rest is up to his own soul. Yusuke and Botan return to the Human Realm, where Yusuke finds out from Botan that he can communicate with people by entering their dreams. Yusuke enters Keiko's dream and tries to tell her that he's going to come back to life.
However the next morning, Keiko can't bring herself to tell Atsuko of her dream. Frustrated, Yusuke finds out from Botan that he can take over the body of someone close to him who has the strongest spiritual sensitivity. That someone is Kuwabara, who Yusuke takes control of. Botan warns Yusuke that he only has 1 hour to sort things out.
After trying and failing to convince Keiko's parents, Yusuke runs around desperately trying to find Keiko. He is attacked by Kuwabara's various enemies, but eventually manages to track her down with just a few minutes left. After explaining the situation to her, Keiko runs off and informs Atsuko, who reveals that Yusuke's heart is beating again. Nearby, Yusuke pulls out the egg, which is glowing. He asks Botan if the things he did today were good, but she warns that he did get into a lot of fights...
-The manga does not have Yusuke accidentally bump into Botan when he thinks about how he's going to fight Lord Enma.
-Koenma does not have his own office in the manga, whilst in the anime he does.
-In the manga, one of the ogres dumps a pile of papers onto Koenma's desk. This doesn't happen in the anime.
-Koenma's manga design is slightly different, as he's seen wearing a bib. He doesn't have this in the anime.
-The manga has some stuff which the anime cut out. After Koenma is about to reveal the egg, the manga cuts to Keiko and her two friends in town. Keiko then visits Atsuko, and there is a flashback scene involving a time where Yusuke got a fever and Keiko stays next to him.
-The manga has Yusuke ask how long it takes the egg to hatch, and Koenma says it usually takes 120 years -usually. This dialogue was cut from the anime.
-Another difference is in the manga, Koenma doesn't tell Yusuke about how the creature in the egg could become a devil or angel, he only tells Botan.
-Atsuko breaks a window by throwing a bottle through it in the manga, in the anime she doesn't do this. Yusuke also explains to Botan that his mom once went on one of these drunken rampages for 3 days straight once, this dialogue was cut from the anime.
-The dream Keiko has is initially different in the manga -she dreams about the last thing she said to Yusuke (see the previous episode). In the anime this was changed to her running after Yusuke and telling him to wait.
-In the manga, after Keiko wakes up, she goes to Atsuko and is going to tell her about how she saw Yusuke in her dream, but Atsuko reveals Yusuke's heart is beating. The anime swapped things around a bit here, and has the scene where Atsuko reveals that Yusuke is alive happen later.
-After the above, the manga has Keiko and Atsuko discuss what's happening with Yusuke. Yusuke sees Keiko may still have some doubts, and decides to communicate with her again. This leads to the scene where Yusuke takes over Kuwabara's body. The anime had this happen earlier.
-Another difference is in the manga, Yusuke can only stay in Kuwabara's body for 30 minutes. In the anime, he has 60 minutes.
-Yusuke runs out of the restaurant in the manga, whilst in the anime he gets thrown out.
-The manga only shows Yusuke taking down one guy in a fight, the anime shows a lot more fighting.
-Keiko's friends and Keiko herself are wearing casual clothes in the manga, whilst in the anime they wear their school uniforms.
-The manga does not feature Keiko slapping Kuwabara after Yusuke departs from his body like the anime does. In the anime, after this scene, Keiko runs back to Atsuko, and finds out that Yusuke's heart is beating. As mentioned above, this happens earlier in the manga.
-The manga has a few exclusive stories which are not featured in the anime, which are set between this episode and the next one. I'm not sure why they were skipped, but my guess is the anime staff wanted to focus more on the action. For more details about these chapters, click here.
