Synopsis

Yusuke's fight with Yomi continues. As the two continue to absolutely batter each other, Yusuke thinks about his friends, and hears Genkai telling him he's not alone, and who it is he's fighting for. He then hears Koenma and Botan cheering him on. He thinks of everyone else, and then a new energy emits from his body. Kurama and Hiei think it's Sensui's sacred light energy, but Koenma says it's something utterly different. The light dies down, but Yusuke's fists are now covered with a blue aura. Yomi unleashes his own demon energy around himself.

The two clash again, hitting each other over and over. It all comes down to their final punches, and as they hit each other in the face, they create a massive column of energy around them. For a few seconds, the two remain still. However, Yusuke then falls. As the light dies down, Yusuke has fallen, whilst Yomi remains standing. Yusuke can hear Koto starting her count to ten. Yusuke starts to get up...

...but then he wakes up and finds himself in a hospital. Kurama, Chu and the others arrive, and tell Yusuke that he lost, and has been out for a week. However they reveal that Yomi lost his next fight, and Mukuro was also defeated. In the end, Enki was the winner. Enki says he will rule for three years, at which point they'll have another tournament. He then says he has decided there will only be one fundamental law that he will establish for the three years: there shall be no trouble to be caused to the Human Realm. He explains he hasn't decided on anything definite, but he believes they should go forward with neither side making waves with the other. He'll setup the particulars in an upcoming committee meeting and will have a bill drawn up and proclaimed within the week. Yusuke asks Kurama where Yomi is, and Kurama explains that after he lost, Yomi told him he was going on a journey with Shura, to train him to become stronger than Urameshi. He told Kurama to pass on a message to Urameshi: fighting with him was most enjoyable, and he'd never had to exert himself like that before. And the next time they fight, there's no telling what will happen. Yomi also told Kurama that he was glad to have met up with him.

Later on, Chu and the others say their goodbyes, and say they will train hard for the next three years. Kurama later finds Hiei, who gives him his hirui stone and tells him to give it to Yukina. He also tells him to tell her that her brother is dead. Kurama convinces Hiei to take the stone back and give it to Yukina himself, no matter how many years it takes. Elsewhere, Yusuke finds Koenma. Koenma warns him his plan was reckless, but somehow it worked out. He also fires him as a spirit detective, but Yusuke says he's felt like he's been fired for a while now. Koenma says they probably won't see each other for a bit. Yusuke tells him that's right, and says goodbye to him -he's still got some things to take care of.

Yusuke visits his father's grave. He hears Raizen's voice, who asks him what he's going to do next. Yusuke says that for now, he's heading home, as he made a promise. He tells Raizen he'll see him around, and walks off. As he goes, he sees Hokushin and a few other monks, and tells them he's got his hands full with other matters, but he will be back someday. Hokushin says they understand, and they will continue to devote themselves to their training, looking forward to that day. They then disappear in an instant, as Yusuke looks up at the sky.

Manga differences

-Most of this episode is not in the manga. In particular, none of the fight seen between Yusuke and Yomi in this episode is seen in the manga. The only scene from this episode which is in the manga, is the part where Enki makes his speech.

-In the manga, Yusuke explains what happened in the tournament to Kurama and Kuwabara, in a later part set after he returns to the Human Realm. In the anime, a new scene was added where Yusuke wakes up in a hospital, and Chu, Jin, Kurama and the others explain the tournament's outcome to Yusuke.

-In the anime, Kurama doesn't state who it was who beat Yomi. In the manga, Yusuke tells Kurama and Kuwabara that Kokou defeated Yomi.

Notes

-This episode does not have the usual recap sequence at the start. It does partly re-tell the end of the previous episode, but has no narrator dialogue, and also features some new animation in places.

-This episode also lacks a title card.

-I'm not sure if this was a mistake with the DVD I have, but this episode also doesn't feature the eyecatcher that's on all other episodes.

-Atsuko makes her first appearance in the series since this episode -she has been mentioned a few times since then, but wasn't seen. Even then, she just makes a quick cameo with Yusuke's other friends, and has no dialogue.

Errors

-During these shots, Koto's leggings are skin colored.
