Synopsis
The next match of the tournament is about to begin: Yusuke versus Yomi. As the two meet on the B block's ring, they both summon their demon energy. In doing so, the other fighters currently battling it out -Mukuro and Natsume, along with Shu and Souketsu -stop when they notice all of the demon energy coming from the B block. They all decide to up their games, going all out with their own powers. As Koto tells Yusuke and Yomi to begin, Yusuke lands the first hit, surprising himself, along with all of the audience.
Yusuke tells Yomi to stop joking around. Yomi gets up and says that when facing Yusuke, it throws his pacing off. Yusuke has let him discover a new facet of himself, and that was the first time he ever wanted to take a punch head-on. The fight resumes, but as the two run towards each other, Yomi suddenly appears behind Yusuke, and hits him with numerous energy blasts. As Yusuke gets knocked down, he feels as if something's wrong with him. Yomi asks him what the matter is, and finds it hard to believe that his attack did this much damage. As he picks Yusuke up by the head, Yusuke questions what he is fighting for. When Yomi hears this he becomes outraged, and blasts Yusuke up into the air.
Yusuke thinks about Toguro and Sensui, and how the two of them both wanted to be defeated by someone. Yusuke questions what his own purpose in fighting is, and if he's doing it just to be defeated by someone, too. He then hears Raizen's voice, who calls him pretty pathetic -he's forgotten something -the reason he has come this far, to the point of leaving behind his woman in the Human Realm. Yusuke thinks back to how he wasn't himself when he defeated Sensui, and how that didn't sit well with him. He then remembers telling Keiko he'd be back in three years, and she told him there was no telling what would happen in that time. Raizen then reminds Yusuke that he has his blood flowing through him. Yusuke thinks he can't go home until he settles this. Pulling himself together, his demonkin markings appear on his body, and he punches Yomi. He then fires a large blast of demon energy at him, but Yomi protects himself with his force wall technique.
Yusuke starts firing shots of demon energy over and over again, and eventually breaks through Yomi's barrier by mixing spirit energy with demon energy. He ends up firing blasts of pure spirit energy, as the markings on his body vanish. Yusuke apologizes for taking up Yomi's time before. Yomi tells him that must have been his true power just now. It's just possible that he may not be able to put him out of his misery. Yusuke says he's starting to get the same feeling. Yomi tells him not to get too full of himself, as he was just having some fun with him before. They resume their fight -what will these two see at the conclusion of their death battle?
-In the manga, Yomi and Yusuke are standing on grass when the first starts. In the anime, they stand on a ring.
-In the manga, Yusuke does not get pushed back by Yomi's demon energy. He is the one who stops using his demon energy first, whilst in the anime it's Yomi who stops first.
-The dialogue that characters like Kurama, Toya and Jin have in this episode isn't in the manga.
-
The vast majority of the Yusuke and Yomi fight shown in this episode is not in the manga. In the manga, it's only shown up to Yusuke getting hit by Yomi's energy blasts, and then Yusuke blocking Yomi's next strike. The anime added a lot more to it, and the stuff about Yusuke questioning why he is fighting, hearing Raizen's voice, and firing demon/spirit gun blasts is not seen in the manga.
-This episode does not have an opening recap sequence.
