Synopsis
Spike and the Autobots hold a surprise birthday party for Daniel. But it gets interrupted by a Combaticon attack, who have been sent by Galvatron to destroy shuttles which were to be used to transport delegates to a peace conference. The Autobots battle the Combaticons, but many shuttles are destroyed. During the battle, Ultra Magnus protects Wheelie. The Combaticons retreat, and the Autobots start repairing the shuttles. Daniel and Wheelie think Magnus should be rewarded for his bravery, so they come up with a plan: throw him a surprise birthday party. But first, they need to find out when his birthday actually is.
They ask Perceptor, but he tells them to try asking at the hall of records. They head there and meet Custodiobot, who finds out the information they want isn't here. He tells them it should be on the storage asteroid. He explains that during the great war, the Autobots created an artificial storage asteroid, and on the asteroid was data detailing the history of the Autobots to that point. He tells them the last known coordinates of the asteroid, believing that nobody would give them a ship. However, Wheelie convinces Daniel that they can borrow a garbage scow, and the two head to the coordinates. Their ship enters a meteor shower and gets damaged, but crash lands on the storage asteroid.
They head inside and start using a computer, but in doing so, accidentally activate the asteroid's security measures. Some drones attack them, but Cyclonus and the Sweeps then show up, who destroy the drones. Cyclonus decides to reprogram the asteroid's flight plan and have it crash into Cybertron. He then contacts the Autobots and says they've got Daniel. The Autobots wonder what to do, as if they destroy the asteroid, Daniel will be killed. But if they don't, the delegates will be destroyed and peace will never come to their galaxy.
Ultra Magnus finds out from Custodiobot where Daniel and Wheelie went. He and Sky Lynx go to the asteroid, where they battle and defeat the Sweeps. Magnus goes in and fights Cyclonus, but as this is happening, Wheelie activates the asteroid's self destruct sequence. When Cyclonus realizes this, he transforms and retreats. The Autobots and Daniel board Sky Lynx, who escapes from the asteroid as it explodes. Returning to Cybertron, Spike finds out the reason why Daniel and Wheelie went to the asteroid in the first place. Magnus tells them even he doesn't know when his birthday is! Spike comes up with an idea -why don't they just designate today as Ultra Magnus' birthday? Everyone in the room then says happy birthday to Ultra Magnus.
-The Secret Files segment for this episode is about the Predacons.
-For unknown reasons, the Autobot's lasers are colored red in this episode, instead of yellow. The Decepticons also fire blue lasers, instead of their usual pink. Did the animators confused this show with G.I. Joe?
-Custodiobot is never named in the episode, but his name is in the script.
-The Protectobots finally make their first appearance in the third season, having being curiously absent up to this point. Even then, only two of them appear: First Aid and Groove. And only First Aid gets to say anything.
-During this shot, Swindle is colored green instead of yellow.
-The above error happens again seconds later.
-The Combaticons are seen running towards a gigantic Blast Off... and behind them is Bruticus, the combined form of the Combaticons. When the shot changes, Bruticus is at the back again. It seems he was used instead of Onslaught.
-When Rodimus is checking a shuttle, the legs of a second Rodimus can be seen on the opposite side.
-This sign has "WELCOME" spelt as "WELLCOME".
-Daniel mouths Wheelie's line about wanting information on Ultra Magnus' creation.
-After Wheelie turns on his head light, there's an Autobot to Autobot symbol transition screen, but it doesn't play the usual jingle.
-Almost the entirety of Blaster's helmet is colored white during this shot, only the dome should be. The rest of it should be colored red.
-When everyone heads back to the conference, two Rodimus Primes can be seen.
-Magnus' arm rockets frequently go missing during his fight with Cyclonus.
-The computer Wheelie uses has "DESTRUCT" spelt as "DESTRUT"
-None of the Autobots seem to care that they've lost everything they had on the storage asteroid.
