Synopsis

The Stunticons are ordered by Megatron to steal a few components needed for a new weapon he's having constructed. The Stunticons are successful and head back to base, but their activities have been picked up by Teletraan I. Groups of Autobots head out and stop the Stunticons, and the entire team are taken prisoner. They are taken back to the Autobot's base, where the Autobots study the stolen components. Hound looks at the Stunticons' memory banks, and finds they were meant to go back to a meteorite crater.

The Autobots come up with a plan. Optimus Prime, Sideswipe, Jazz, Mirage and Windcharger are disguised as the Stunticons, and then head to where the meteorite crater is so they can learn more about Megatron's plans. They take the stolen components with them. As they get to the crater, the real Stunticons are able to break out of their holding cells. They transform into Menasor, and after defeating several Autobots, blast out of the base. Meanwhile, the fake Stunticons learn about Megatron's new weapon: a powerful laser cannon. The cannon is powered by a ruby, which was one of the components Motormaster had stolen.

The real Menasor then arrives, but the fake Stunticons are able to also form Menasor. Megatron decides to destroy whichever one loses, and soon the fake Menasor breaks apart. The Autobot's disguises deactivate, as they have no choice but to fight Menasor, to no avail. Megatron starts using the new cannon, but it proves to be unstable. Despite being warned about how unstable it is, Megatron continues to fire it, resulting in it exploding.

More Autobots then arrive at the crater, so Menasor decides to retreat, as do the other Decepticons. Spike says it doesn't look like they needed their help, but Prime tells them he wouldn't say that. It's revealed that Ironhide had made some alterations to the ruby, which caused the weapon to explode. Prime says the Decepticons were so busy trying to expose them, that they never thought to examine the ruby. With the day saved, Prime orders the Autobots to roll out.
