At a small temple, Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling wait. Mei-Ling puts her hand in the water, but she says that this body cannot feel the chill it. Hsien-Ko doesn't feel anything when she puts out a candle light with just her hand. She says it's to be expected when your body is no longer of this world. Mei-Ling thinks they did what they had to, and choices were made. The body is not important, what counts is the soul. Hsien-Ko says it's the soul and the will to fight...

Many years ago, Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling were in a temple. The land was under attack by Darkstalkers, and their mother stood ready to fight with them. As she watches some evil spirits head into the sky, she uses a technique.

She becomes a dragon, which collides with the Darkstalkers and destroys them, but it is at the cost of her own life. Mei-Ling and Hsien-Ko run out, but their mother is gone.

They see a comet up in the sky. It's Pyron, who takes a physical form. He creates a hand, and says this is what they use to destroy their enemies. He thinks he could not have forgotten this urge, this will to kill.

Pyron's suns are causing mass devastation to cities, and the survivors flee from the new light. Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling see a long line of people heading towards some boats. Mei-Ling says it's as if the light is trying to focus itself, and Hsien-Ko believes that will be where their enemy is. They must defeat this enemy to avenge their mother.

Hsien-Ko thinks they're the only ones going to the light. They then see Donovan and Anita down below, in line with everybody else. Mei-Ling thinks Donovan must leave. He was born between the light and the dark, and a dhampir like him cannot hope to exist among the humans. He'd only provoke their scorn and anger. He had said that he finds purpose in the destruction of the dark, despite his own heritage. Hsien-Ko wonders where this all leads to, and Mei-Ling thinks it leads to loneliness.

One of the ships sets sail. It's very overcrowded, and many people have to wait behind on the land. Some cars then pull up, and a soldier gets out, telling everyone to get back. The crowds move, and Anita ends up dropping her doll in the shuffle.

Some rich people get out of the cars, having secured a ship just for their own use. The mother says this is just for the children's benefit, as they do so hate the crowds. As they head towards a small boat to take them out to the larger one, one of the children finds the doll, and tries to scare his sister with it. His mother orders him to throw that filthy thing away now, so he does.

But suddenly the doll magically floats above the water for a few seconds, before flying back into Anita's hands. The people around her move away, thinking that she must be a Darkstalker. Some of the villagers decide to kill her...

...but quickly back off when Donovan appears. Mei-Ling thinks Donovan seems a quiet enough man, but his hatred for his own blood knows no end. He hides that anger inside where no one can see it. She thinks he'll continue this lonely, one man fight. Hsien-Ko says Donovan isn't by himself, as he's got Anita with him. Donovan and Anita start to walk away from the crowd.

Later on, Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling enter the ruins of a castle. Mei-Ling says she'd almost forgotten what the light was like, but they know what is really causing this. They see Donovan and Anita down below. Hsien-Ko says this same light that kills also grows flowers.

As day turns to night, they all head inside the castle. Hsien-Ko says they've been chasing after the source of that light for what seems like forever... maybe for two centuries now. Mei-Ling says that then, before they knew it...

Centuries ago, Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling enter a temple, along with their mother and an elder. They pass a large army, and then see a comet in the sky. A general is introduced to Hsien-Ko's mother, and is told she is a sorceress from the Shao tribe. He asks how the road to this place was, and she says it was deserted. She believes the citizens were devoured by the dark.

She then introduces her daughters. As they head inside, Hsien-Ko asks if the emperor is in residence here. The general says that their lord has already left the palace. The only ones who remain here are the very strongest of his armies. They go into the throne room, and see the empty throne. Mei-Ling says she doesn't understand, she thought they were summoned here to protect the emperor. The elder says it seems they are the decoy.

The general shows them a map, and says the strangeness began with the arrival of that comet. The comet seems to be effected by evil energies, and each of the stars in its path seems to have lost their light in the sky. The elder says that the cosmic balance has been upset, naturally they're now seeing the repercussions here on Earth. The light is losing its holy power, and the dark infests the land. The general says the darkness threatens to cover the land with its evil power, and it has recently even begun to move against the emperor himself, including his palace. Their plan is to let it come, so it may be vanquished all at once. Hsien-Ko thinks they have nothing to worry about now that their mother is here. But Mei-Ling says she has the most awful feeling that they want more than they can give.

The general says the expectations they have of her powers are indeed quite high. He asks if it's true if they surpass that of the darkness. She says she believes they do, and one spell in particular should be able to help. If that doesn't work, then they have no other hope. The general says he will speak for her personally when it comes to selecting future royal sorcerers. The elder warns that none of them have the power to end the darkness completely, and the spells used to combat the darkness are as dangerous to the wielder as they are to the victim. The general says they have no choice, even now the enemy surrounds the palace -there's no time left. The elder hoped to save the spell as a last resort, and to throw a life away as a diversionary tactic can and must not be permitted.

Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling's mother thanks the elder for his concern, however she knew the risks when she accepted this duty. Later on, the dark ones arrive at the palace, and begin their attack. The army are slaughtered by them.

Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling watch as their mother goes outside, as the elder tells them to wait here with him. She tells her daughters to watch this last spell carefully. She will die the chosen follower of the tribal sorcerer. She doesn't want her daughters choosing the same path, she would rather them lead a simple life.

She then performs the spell, becoming a dragon which collides with the dark ones. There is a large explosion...

...and the dark ones one destroyed. As things return to normal, there is next to no trace of Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling's mother other than the talisman she wore. The elder says that was the cursed igyo tenshin, a spell most wretched. Their mother has doomed her own soul to eternal suffering in casting it.

Mei-Ling says their mother once told them sorcery could be used to protect happiness. She asks their mother to forgive them, but they can't obey her last wish. She is too dear to them, and they must save her from her own sacrifice.

Back in the present, Mei-Ling says sacrifice, fate and duty... for these abstract concepts, their mother gave up her life. Hsien-Ko says the last spell their mother showed them, the igyo tenshin, uses as an energy source the exact same power as the darkness. That spell was cast, and since then they've been looking for their enemy, looking for a long time. But she says they'll free their mother's soul from the darkness, and they won't let it beat them.

Morrigan is swimming in a lake when a golden bat approaches her. The bat gives her about some information, so Morrigan decides to visit Demitri. She changes to her usual clothes, and then leaves. She thinks she can perhaps forget about her boredom for a while.

At his castle, Demitri is most displeased by this light. He finds out from his butler that the five sun-like objects are converging upon the castle, scorching the land in their path. Demitri thinks someone is taking great pains in their efforts to destroy him. He looks at the crystal ball his butler has, and sees the suns. But he says he won't be driven from his castle.

He says he won't run or hide, and then throws the crystal ball. Before it can hit the ground, it explodes in the air, having been hit by one of Morrigan's projectiles. Morrigan says she also hates to hide, and Demitri asks her what he owes the pleasure of this visit. She says she has done some checking, and thinks he must like to know what she's discovered.

She throws out a golden bat, which transforms into a book. They look through it, and see images of the same robots who attacked them earlier. The book shows images of the robots killing humans. Morrigan says that ancient man refers to these robots as "Huitzil". In the age of ancient civilizations, when feuding groups fought each other for power, many of these groups seemed to disappear completely from the pages of history. When a civilization reaches the apex of its growth, the Huitzil appear, triggered like time bombs.

Morrigan says Demitri has now been selected as the greatest threat that society has to offer. Demitri says he has no wish to become involved in the petty affairs of Human World history. He changes forms and attacks Morrigan.

This causes an explosion, which damages one of the castle's walls. Morrigan flies out and tells him not to underestimate her, if he does, it may be his name that disappears from the history books. Demitri tells her to go and tell her Demon World fools that although they may have exiled him, he is far from defeated. She should tell them that his return has been but delayed, and their agony will be so much greater for the wait. Morrigan says it shall be done, and then flies off.

The butler asks Demitri why he delayed his attack on the Demon World. This business with the robots has absolutely nothing to do with him. Demitri says it is because there is one who would oppose him, and only through his destruction shall he be taught the folly of his ways.

Elsewhere, the Darkstalker werewolf known as Jon Talbain is on the run from some humans. These humans are trying to kill him, shooting at him with rifles. He gets pinned against a wall, but then turns the tables by summoning a flaming dragon. This dragon sets the people on fire and kills them. He thinks about how the dark ones must live, and how if they no longer exist, the Human World will not know of their need for them.

The next morning, Felicia is ready to start her show, but there is a problem: nobody has come to see it! She wonders what to do, and guesses people just aren't in the mood for musicals right now, especially during war time. She reads a paper, which accuses Darkstalkers of being involved in recent events. She thinks everything is probably being caused by some loser human trying to cause trouble... someday she'll repay them for her trouble. She then senses something, and thinks she may get her chance sooner than she thought.

Later on, some Huitzil appear. They start firing at the town, but stop when they see a small cat has appeared. This cat speaks, saying that they've ruined her show, and now they're going to pay for that!

The cat is Felicia, who changes to her usual form and starts to fight the Huitzil. However Felicia finds that these robots are quite durable, and three of them trap her with barriers.

She manages to slash at one of the barriers, breaking it. This frees her, and the three robots explode in a chain reaction. But there are still many more of them, and Felicia can't believe this is happening to her -it's just way too pathetic! The remaining Huitzil surround her.

Before they can do anything, Talbain appears, and destroys them all. As the robots explode, Felicia says that he must be one of the dark ones. Talbain tells her that weak ones, such as herself, should know their place and stay out of trouble.

Felicia sees some humans nearby and thinks they'll blame her for what has happened. She never wanted the humans to hate her, but she then passes out. Talbain says that existence with humans is impossible, which is why they are called Darkstalkers. To live and thrive, they of the dark must be strong indeed. He then charges away.

Felicia wakes up and finds herself in a small hospital. She heads downstairs and finds the doctor who took her in here. He thinks she's made such a quick recovery, as no human could be up so soon. She says he really shouldn't have helped her, as he could get into a lot of trouble. The doctor says anyone who's seen her show knows there's nothing to fear from her. He says the local kids have been by pretty regularly, and have brought her some flowers.

The doctor says he's heard that everyone is being evacuated from this town via train today. People are fearing that the big bad dark ones are coming to destroy them. Felicia says it wasn't the Darkstalkers who attacked the town last night, but some robots who kept saying "exterminate". Felicia thinks the doctor should leave too. He says he won't abandon the weak who'll be left here to die. Outside, one train is getting ready to leave. But something heads down the track from the opposite direction: a massive set of cannons.

The train commander says that, from this moment on, this railroad is under their jurisdiction. He says nobody needs to leave this town, not now that they are here to protect them. They will combat the oncoming Darkstalker threat to this town. He tells everyone there's no need for them to leave, as this mobile cannon will assure their safety.

Some of the villagers go and tell the doctor what is going on. Some kids then run over and say that Felicia has gone. Unaware of what is going on, Felicia has left the doctors, and has decided to help out in the evacuation. She wants to use her train to pull a passenger car or two.

However her train is then blasted off the tracks.

Later on the train commander sees the doctor, telling him that they have captured a Darkstalker spy. He says that it is responsible for the attacks, although the doctor isn't so sure. Later on, the commander returns to where "it" is being held. He's captured Felicia and questions her, but she doesn't say anything. He says that it is responsible for what has happened, but she then speaks and tells him she had nothing to do with it.

He slaps her down and says the spy will speak only when spoken to. He tells his underling to continue the questioning, and then leaves. Felicia thinks so much for a fair trial. She then sees some flowers being thrown through the window.

Later on, the mobile cannon takes aim, and starts firing. The shells have no effect against the Huitzil, which march towards the town and say they will exterminate all human life forms. They start firing back, and destroy the mobile cannon.

The Huitzil enter the town, and start their attack there. The doctor finds Felicia, and she tells him to get out of here. He says he won't leave her here, and frees her. He suggests they try to get out via the fields.

As they run out, Felicia heads in the opposite direction. She thanks the doc for giving her new faith in humankind. She gets to the train station, and finds a train with several ammo canisters on it. She gets onboard this train and drives it out.

The Huitzil see the train fleeing and go after it, which is what Felicia wanted them to do. She then hears Talbain as he comes inside, and he asks her what she plans to do. She really doesn't know, but he says could it be something to do with the ammo in the back, and thinning the herd? Felicia says it's something like that. Talbain suggests they need to make it to the tunnel.

One of the ammo canisters detaches and explodes, followed by another one. The Huitzil descend onto the remaining canisters, and grab onto them.

Talbain lights a fuse, and asks Felicia if she's up for a nice hard run. The two quickly run to the back of the train, avoiding the Huitzil as they go. The canisters then start to explode...

...which leads to the destruction of the Huitzil. Talbain and Felicia make it out of the tunnel in time. Talbain asks how a Darkstalker comes to care for human lives. Felicia says there are those who are willing to understand them, if you give them the chance. It's only a matter of time. They live in the same world, so they have no other choice but to get along.

Meanwhile, Hsien-Ko, Mei-Ling, Donovan and Anita see that many more ships have arrived for the evacuation. Mei-Ling hopes Donovan and Anita have a safe journey, as she and her sister then drive off. Donovan thinks that even if those two do save the soul of their mother, they'll only condemn their own two souls to suffer the eternal darkness in her steed. But the belief they have that they can somehow manage to do it must be the source of their strength.

Anita says that the sisters aren't strong, not even a little bit. They are just nice, and that's all. Their "strength" is a lie, and they are just going to go and die. Donovan turns around and sees that Anita has suddenly started crying, getting hysterical. Donovan calms her by calling out her name, and says that she cast away her emotions to protect herself. Perhaps it was appropriate for her to do so. She has once shown him her anger, and now her sadness. He asks her if she is ready. He will perhaps help her remember what it is to feel happiness.

Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling are still on their way, but then happen to look behind them. In the distance, Donovan and Anita are seen walking towards the source of the light.
