Synopsis

Jotaro and Dio test the punch speed of their Stands, with the World being the faster of the two. Dio stops time and seemingly lands a killing blow on Jotaro, only for him to get back up. Dio doesn't understand how he survived, but neither does Jotaro. Dio stops time again and has the World attack, but then sees what's going on -somehow, Star Platinum has moved during frozen time, and is protecting Jotaro! Star Platinum then moves and punches the World.

Jotaro realizes that this is happening without any conscious effort. Dio wonders how long Jotaro is able to move for, and thinks it may just be for an instant. Jotaro knows this is actually the case, and jumps up, but Dio stops time again and throws lots of knives at him. Jotaro is able to move again, but Star Platinum is only able to move long enough to do one punch. Jotaro is hit by several knives, and crashes down into a back alley below.

Dio lands and believes Jotaro is dead, not realizing that Jotaro has had his Stand stop his own heart. Dio decides to decapitate Jotaro anyway, but before he can, the injured Polnareff drops down and has Silver Chariot stab through his head. Dio stops time and wonders how Vanilla Ice failed, but Star Platinum suddenly moves, and punches him in the head.

Dio attempts to flee to "that place", but is attacked again. He is sent flying down a street, but it's the one they were at earlier, where Joseph had fallen. Dio sucks Joseph's blood, which powers him up and revives him. He and Jotaro resume their battle.

The battle eventually gets to a bridge, and Dio stops time again. He picks up an entire oil tanker and slams it down onto Jotaro. Dio punches it repeatedly, and he leaps away before it explodes. Believing to have stomped out the Joestar bloodline, Dio declares he'll rule over all humans. But he then finds that he can't move, and everything has stopped.

Jotaro appears, having stopped time himself. He has his Stand kick Dio, and then tells him that when he heals the injuries to his legs, he'll blast him with Star Platinum. Dio gets back up and squirts blood from his new injuries into Jotaro's eyes. Dio goes for a kick, but Jotaro counters with a punch. The two Stands clash for the last time.

Star Platinum's punch causes the World to break apart, destroying it and causing Dio's body to explode. Jotaro tells Dio the reason he was defeated is because he made him angry. Later on, Joseph is revived thanks to a blood transfusion from Dio's remains. He and Jotaro are onboard a Speedwagon Foundation paramedic helicopter, and they have Dio's remains dumped into the sea. Joseph thinks that he'll never forget this journey, and tells Kakyoin, Iggy and Avdol that it's over.

At the airport, Jotaro and Joseph say goodbye to Polnareff, who is returning to France. In Japan, Holy suddenly wakes up, and tells her mother that she feels great. She says they need to get ready, as she can feel it... her father and Jotaro are coming home! Jotaro and Joseph have boarded a plane, which heads back to Japan. Joseph takes out his Walkman, puts a Gipsy Kings cassette in, and lets it play. He and Jotaro are on their way home.

Manga Differences

-During their initial clash, Jotaro's leg gets cut in the manga. In the episode, it's his face that gets cut.

-Dio's face also receives a small cut in the manga, but this doesn't happen in the episode.

-Jotaro and Dio end up in the air during their punching speed test, and Dio stops time whilst they're up there. In the episode, they remain on the ground.

-In the manga, when Dio stops time for the first time against Jotaro, he notices Jotaro's fingers twitch, which surprises him. This leads to a scene where Dio has a flashback, thinking about when he first learnt he could stop time, and Enya telling him he must believe he can do it. After this flashback ends, Dio stops time again, and finds out why Jotaro's fingers were moving -he had placed a magnet on his arm, which reacted to one on Jotaro's arm. Dio goes to kill Jotaro, only for Jotaro to move in frozen time, and land a blow on the World which smashes right through the Stand's chest -with Dio also being inflicted with the same wound. In the episode, all of this was cut.

-In the episode, Dio is sent crashing into a butcher's shop. In the manga, Dio lands in a store and has one of his legs ripped off. He sees a cashier nearby, and ends up sucking her blood to heal himself.

-In the manga, the World is the one who throws the knives. In the episode, Dio does it himself.

-Dio has some extra dialogue in the manga, stating he believes only he should be the master of time. He says this as Jotaro is falling after being hit by the knives. This dialogue isn't in the episode.

-Jotaro had stuffed some magazines down his shirt in the manga, which he got from the shop Dio crashed into. These protect him from the knives. In the episode, it's the wooden splints that protect him.

-In the manga, as soon as Dio lands, he immediately decides to decapitate Jotaro. As he goes to strike, Polnareff then stabs into his head from behind. Dio stops time and knocks Polnareff away into another store. He goes to kill Polnareff, but Jotaro makes a little noise, which causes Dio to turn his attention back to him. The police then show up, and Dio kills once officer whilst getting the other to shoot Jotaro. Star Platinum discreetly catches the bullet, causing Dio to wonder if he really is dead or not. This is where he starts checking for Jotaro's breathing & heartbeat. In the episode, most of this was cut. The only parts that happen are Polnareff attacking Dio, and Dio trying to work out of Jotaro is dead or not. Dio does not hit Polnareff in the episode like he does in the manga.

-When Jotaro punches Dio, the manga shows that part of Dio's skull has been shattered. This isn't shown in the episode.

-After Jotaro punches Dio, he and Polnareff have some dialogue in the episode, which they don't have in the manga.

-When Dio is struggling to move, Jotaro fills a bucket up with some gasoline and then pours it over Dio in the manga. Jotaro says he's done this so he can smell Dio no matter where he goes. Jotaro then pulls out a lighter and is about to throw it at Dio, but Dio then stops time and grabs onto a car. In the episode, the stuff with the gasoline and lighter doesn't happen.

-In the manga, you actually see Star Platinum throw the knife, whilst you don't in the episode. Two knives are thrown in the episode, but only one is in the manga.

-In the manga, the knife hits one of the car's tires, causing it to crash. In the episode, the knives hit the car's bumper bar, breaking it off, and letting the car continue on without crashing.

-In the manga, when Dio reaches the manhole, he actually opens it, only to find Jotaro waiting inside. In the episode, Sat Platinum stomps on the manhole cover before Dio can open it.

-In the manga, Dio is armed with a couple of knives when he unsuccessfully tries to stop time again. He doesn't have these in the episode.

-Dio's face is considerably smashed up when he flies down the street in the manga. It's still intact in the episode.

-After Dio tells Jotaro his family were used by him, the manga has a part where Joseph's spirit appears, telling Jotaro about how he must not succumb to rage, and how this trip was a lot of fun. This scene isn't in the episode.

-In the episode, Jotaro and Dio's fight is extended. The scenes involving the boat, the tram and the tower are not in the manga.

-In what is probably the most famous change, Dio attacks Jotaro with an oil tanker in the episode, whilst in the anime, he uses a road roller.

-When Dio starts attacking the road roller, he strikes with his elbows in the manga. In the episode, he punches the oil tanker.

-The road roller doesn't explode in the manga, whilst the episode's oil tanker does.

-In the manga, Jotaro attacks Dio from behind, kicking him off the road roller. In the episode, Jotaro walks out of the fire caused by the oil tanker's explosion, and attacks Dio from the front.

-In the episode, it is only mentioned that Joseph was revived thanks to a blood transfusion from Dio's remains. In the manga, there is a chapter showing the blood transfusion, which the episode didn't adapt.

-In the manga, Dio's remains are tossed out into the desert, where they crumble to dust. In the episode, Dio's remains are dumped into the sea.

-In the manga, Joseph is still in the airport when he uses his Walkman, and plays Get Back by The Beatles on it. In the episode, Joseph is on the plane when he uses his Walkman, and plays a Gipsy Kings cassette.

-The episode's very last few shots, showing Jotaro and Joseph in the plane, are not in the manga.
