Synopsis

Cheng Sinzan finds a piece of the armor of Mars, but he is then immediately attacked by Laocorn and his three underlings: Panni, Jamin and Hauer. Laocorn defeats Cheng and has the armor placed on himself, giving him a giant power boost. Having obtained three pieces, he intends to get the other three. Meanwhile, Joe Higashi fights for the first time since his battle with Krauser. His opponent is Hwa Jai, and whilst Hwa initially seems to be dominating the fight, Joe defeats him with a knee to the face. Andy and Mai witness his victory.

Terry has flown to Japan to attend Joe's victory party, but stops off at a game center first. He bumps into a girl called Sulia, but as she runs off, three masked fighters go after her. He beats them up and shatters the mask of one of them, causing them to retreat. Terry arrives at the place where the party is being held, where he meets Joe, Andy and Mai. He also sees Kim, who hopes to have another fight with him. Everyone gets to meet Kim's family.

Another masked fighter then appears, who Kim takes on. After taking a beating, Kim eventually wins when he uses his phoenix kick combo, shattering his opponent's mask. They realize that the masked fighter is Cheng, and wonder why he'd do something like this. Sulia appears, and explains it was because of the mask. She's been looking for Terry Bogard, as she needs his help to stop her brother, Laocorn. Terry and the others decide to help her, and she takes them to a cave in Rhodes. She explains about how she and her brother are the descendants of Gaudemus, a long-dead king who once fought with Alexander the Great. When Alexander died, his generals ambushed Gaudemus, burning him alive. Gaudemus' armor, known as the armor of Mars, wasn't damaged. It is said the rage of Gaudemus flowed into it, causing it to transform into a being which destroyed Babylon. Four warriors defeated Mars, and the armor changed back. The pieces were split up, but now Laocorn is trying to obtain them all to gain the power of Mars.

She shows them a map of where the other pieces could be, and everyone heads out. Terry, Sulia and Joe head to Turkey, and Sulia happens to see a picture of Lily. Later on that night, Terry sees Lily in a dream, and she tells him she wants him to be happy. The next morning, the group try to do some research on the armor piece they want to find, only to find the location it might have been in was blown up a week ago. They believe it to be Laocorn's work, but Sulia says her brother must not have found the armor piece, as she would have sensed it -she and her brother are connected by a strange power, and know what the other is feeling. Terry recalls seeing some pictures on the walls in the cave in Rhodes, of Krauser's techniques. They decide to go to Stroheim castle in Germany, whilst Joe is sent to find Andy and Mai.

Andy and Mai are in Iraq, and go to a museum. But the chest they were hoping the piece of armor was in is empty, and its contents were taken to China centuries ago. Joe finds them and explains what's up, and Andy realizes the cave paintings also showed some eight extremes holy fist techniques. Mai recalls that Jubei and Tung went way back, so suggests they find Jubei. Terry and Sulia arrive in Germany, but are attacked.

They end up at the top floor of a parking lot, where Jamin and Laocorn are. Laocorn offers Terry the chance to join him in his quest, but when Terry refuses, he attacks him. Having gained so much power via the armor pieces he has, Laocorn is easily able to best Terry. He's about to kill him, but stops his attack when Sulia gets in the way. Terry uses his power geyser, which blows him and Sulia off the roof, and into a river. Laocorn uses the armor to protect himself and Jamin.

Terry has been badly injured, and Sulia has to drag him through a sewer. Andy and Mai arrive at Duck King's new club, where Andy finds Jubei and gets some information about where the piece of armor could be: at a temple in China. As Mai dances and gets the crowd's attention, Billy Kane arrives, and confronts Andy. But he sees someone else behind him, and shatters some glass to reveal Hauer. Hauer is annoyed that Mai has stopped dancing, and after she tells him Andy is cuter, he uses a whirlwind technique to rip the club apart.

Jubei tells Andy to engage Hauer with caution. Billy goes to Geese and reports on what happened, but Geese shows little interest. He uses his newest technique, the raging storm, but he tells Billy it's not powerful enough yet, and seeks revenge against Terry. Meanwhile, Sulia uses her power to heal Terry, whilst he dreams about Lily. He sees Lily die again, but as he holds her, he sees she has changed into Sulia.

Terry wakes up, and Sulia tells him about her and her brother's past. Their father, who discovered the map in the cave, used it to find the first piece of the armor. But he was betrayed and killed by his best friend. Laocorn confronted him and was shot, but survived and used the armor piece to kill their father's murderer. In China, Andy is given the piece of armor by some monks, but hears an explosion nearby. He heads back to find that Hauer has captured Mai. He places down the piece of armor and tries to attack Hauer when he goes to collect it, but Hauer uses Mai as a shield. Hauer uses his super vacuum slash move to defeat Andy.

In Germany, Panni has entered Stroheim castle. She finds Laurence and Sebastian looking at a portrait of Krauser, but she sees some portraits of other Stroheim family members, including one of whom is wearing a piece of the armor. Realizing the armor piece must be hidden here, she attacks and defeats Laurence with her water powers, and then gets Sebastian to reveal where the armor piece is. The next morning, Joe, Sulia and Terry arrive at the castle, but realize that they're too late. Sulia then falls down screaming, having sensed that her brother has donned the new pieces of armor he's obtained.

The group return to the cave in Rhodes. Joe accidentally opens up a hidden door, revealing a space that Sulia is able to place her pendant into. It reveals that the last piece of the armor is in the Dead Sea in Israel, so the group head there. However, they are attacked by Jamin, Hauer and Panni. Sulia gives herself up, and is taken away by Jamin. Hauer and Panni intend to kill Mai, but Andy appears, and defeats Hauer.

Mai uses her super deadly nina bee technique to defeat Panni. Sulia is taken to Laocorn, and they travel to the Dead Sea. Jamin presents Sulia her pendant, but she slaps him, asking how he could do this. Laocorn uses the power of the armor to reveal a sunken shrine, which he and Sulia enter. Terry's group arrive, and see the shrine. They try to enter it, but are attacked by more masked fighters. Andy, Joe and Mai fight them off, giving Terry the chance to enter the shrine.

Terry encounters Jamin, and the two briefly fight. But Jamin ceases his attack, and gets hit by a maximum-power burn knuckle. Before he dies, he tells Terry that they were in danger of killing each other, and one of them had to save Laocorn and Sulia. He believes that someone is Terry. Terry rushes further into the shrine, but is too late to stop Laocorn from putting on the last piece of armor. Laocorn is transformed into a god.

Laocorn fights Terry, easily overwhelming him with his new powers. Andy, Joe and Mai arrive, and whilst Andy and Joe try to fight Laocorn, they are unable to harm him no matter what they try. Mai rescues Sulia and as they see to Terry, Terry tells them to get out of here, whilst promising Sulia that he'll bring Laocorn back to his old self.

Despite their best efforts, nobody can hurt Laocorn, but he suddenly senses a pain in his arm. It has been causing by Sulia wounding herself, and she says the armor has further strengthened the bond they share as descendants of Gaudemus. She stabs herself again, and tells Terry she couldn't take it -watching all of them getting hurt for her. She pleads with Terry to strike her brother through the breastplate, and this was her fate to put an end to the rage of Gaudemus.

Terry uses his burn knuckle to hit Laocorn, which causes the armor to mostly disappear. He reverts to his old self, and as Sulia dies, she thanks Terry for keeping his promise. Terry asks why this happens to every woman he loves, but then something strange happens -what's left of the armor melts to liquid, and it hits the statue where the final piece was. The statue melts, as Mars, the god of War, appears!

Mars tries to attack Mai and Andy, but Laocorn gets in the way, and is incinerated. Terry takes on Mars by himself, overcome with rage due to Sulia's death. He uses a new technique where he unleashes a massive amount of energy.

This consumes Mars and completely destroys him. Terry, Andy, Joe and Mai leave the shrine, and look at what's left of it. Mai says it's finally over, and Andy says it is. As everyone starts to walk away, Terry throws his hat off in silence.

Notes

-The film was directed by Masami Ōbari, who was the character designer for the previous two specials.

-Almost every character from Fatal Fury Special appears or is at least mentioned in the movie. The only exceptions are Axel Hawk and Ryo Sakazaki. Hwa Jai is the only character exclusive to the first Fatal Fury game to appear in the movie.

-The film has a couple of noticeable drops in animation quality during certain scenes. The first, most notable one is Terry's first fight scene, where he fights the masked fighters. The second one is near the end, where Terry's group fight more masked fighters. It's not as bad as before since everything moves a lot faster, but if you slow things down there are some questionable frames.

-The word "SNK" appears a few times in the movie, such as in the ring Joe and Hwa fight in, on a building seen when Sulia first appears, and on the truck that Terry nearly crashes into.

-The game center Terry goes to is Neo Geo Land, which was an actual arcade located in Osaka, Japan.

-The sound effects from the game Terry plays are from either Fatal Fury 2 or Fatal Fury Special. Judging by the sounds he's playing as himself, and losing to his brother.

-The girl who congratulates Joe is Reiko Chiba, an SNK fan who voices herself in the movie. As most English speaking fans wouldn't have known who she was at the time, the English dub has Joe say "are you really her?!" to which she replies, "yeah, that's my name!".

-When Kim defeats Cheng, pay attention to this shot -if you look to the right, you'll see Chun-Li from Street Fighter II make a cameo, although her costume color is red rather than the usual blue.

-In the previous two specials, Terry's power wave is colored yellow, like it is in the games. For some reason in this movie, it's colored blue.

-The girl Mai swaps places with in the club is Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown. In the Japanese version of the film, she is voiced by Reiko Chiba, and Jubei even mentions her name to Andy (this was dropped from the English dub). Reiko voiced the character in the first Samurai Shodown anime and also portrayed her in a Samurai Shodown II commercial. Thanks to abster876 for this info.

-When Mai starts dancing, there are a few crowd shots, one of them has Hauer make a cameo. He seems to be enjoying himself.

-In the Japanese dub, Geese does not say the name of the technique he uses. This was thankfully rectified for the English dub. The technique is colored blue in the games, but was colored green for the movie.

-Hauer's fingernails are skin colored instead of pink during this shot.
-When Laocorn pulls himself up after being shot, his arm is ridiculously long.
-When Laocorn becomes a god, he laughs. His mouth doesn't move when he laughs.
-In the credits for the English version, Lisa-Ann Belay's (Mai's voice actress) name is spelt wrong, reading as "Lisa-Ann Beley".
