Continuing their wanderings, Kenshiro and his companions saved a village under attack from the Fang clan, a bloodthirsty gang of bandits. It was in this village that Kenshiro met their leader: Mamiya, a woman who resembles his late lover, Yuria. Elsewhere, in the desert, a mysterious man appeared named Rei, who practiced the art of the South Star waterfowl fist.

Rei: The man with seven scars on his chest... until I find and kill him, I'll even eat mud to survive!

South Star Waterfowl Fist! The Tragedy
of the Mighty Begins!!

Rei approaches Mamiya's village. Nearby, the Fang clan are waiting, and watch as the villagers make repairs to the barricade. Kemada says there is lots of food for them at this village. The other Fangs want to go and strike now, before the barricade is rebuilt. However Kemada says that can't, as that village has a seriously strong protector there. This protector has killed many of their brothers, so for now they need to wait, and think of a plan.

Another Fang then says he's seen some weird guy out there. Kemada takes a look, and sees Rei walking towards the village. He decides Rei looks like he has a really attitude, although the other Fang thinks he's good looking. Kemada asks him who's better looking, and the Fang says Rei.

Kemada grabs him and says they'll try this again -and this time the Fang says Kemada looks better. Kemada drops him and says he doesn't like Rei, and decides to kill him. He has some of the Fangs drop down to attack.

But Rei leaps up, and slices them apart with his South Star waterfowl fist technique. More Fangs surround him, as he tells them that's no way to say hello to anyone.

Kemada has more Fangs attack, but they are quickly all sliced up.

NANTO SUICHO KEN

(South Star Waterfowl Fist)

Rei confronts Kemada, and asks him if he is the boss. Kemada drops to his knees, and says he just wants to talk. Meanwhile, at the village, the repairs to the barricade continue. Mamiya says the Fangs are sure to attack them again, so they have to defend their village with their own hands. She says they must build the barricade up high, so the Fangs can't climb over it.

Elsewhere, some kids are playing with Pel, and Bat says this village sure has a lot of happy kids here. Lin looks at the flowers again.

Kenshiro looks up at the sky, where he sees an image of Yuria. Meanwhile, Ko is working on the barricade, when suddenly a sliced up Fang is dropped in front of him.

Rei appears, and says he's heard they're looking for protectors. Back at Kenshiro's group, Yuria suddenly walks up, and says hello.

Kenshiro is shocked, but then realizes it's not Yuria, it's Mamiya. He closes his eyes again.

Mamiya ignores him and instead tells Lin that she always comes here. Lin says that's right, and Mamiya says these flowers show that they'll all have a happy future. Mamiya notices Kenshiro smiling at what she said, which surprises here -she never though he smiled! Kenshiro looks away.

Mamiya tells Lin to come over with her later, she'll wash her hair. As Mamiya starts to walk off, she suddenly tosses an apple up, right in front of Kenshiro. She then turns around and throws out one of her yoyos, splitting it in half. The yoyo heads straight towards Ken.

However, he gets out of the way in an instant, as Bat catches half of the apple. Mamiya catches the other half, but is surprised to see that in the time Kenshiro moved, he was able to slice the apple pieces up again.

He did the same thing to the part Bat caught. Mamiya says that was impressive, and thinks Kenshiro will last a while as a protector -all of the other men ended up going to heaven pretty quickly. She's heard that they've gotten a new protector today, so he'd better try not to lose. As she walks up, Bat thinks she's so cool, but feels he's seen her before.

Lin suddenly cowers, and Kenshiro asks her what's wrong. Bat then gasps, and as Kenshiro turns around, he sees Rei standing there. Rei asks him if that was his woman just now, because if she is, he'd better be careful not to let anyone take her from him.

He says his name is Rei -he should remember it. As he starts to walk off, the kids suddenly run up with Pel, and one of them bumps into Rei. This results in Pel crashing into Rei, and as Lin retrieves him, Pel happens to grab something.

Bat takes it and says it's just some dirty old scarf, but Rei quickly snatches it back. He says he'll see Kenshiro around, and leaves.

Bat does not think Rei is the kind of guy who would help people, and thinks he has the face of a major bad guy. Outside the village, one of the Fangs reports that Rei made it into the village. Kemada says the villagers will never suspect that their new protector actually works for the Fangs. He tells the others to prepare to attack.

At the village's water source, Mamiya washes Lin's hair. Lin can't believe there's so much water here, and Mamiya says it's what lets this village be self-sufficient. Lin asks Mamiya how she, a woman, was able to be the leader of the village. Mamiya explains...

...that this village was built be her parents. They dug wells for water, and plowed fields to plant, all to make a village where the flowers could bloom again. But they gave their lives protecting it from bandits.

Mamiya asks Lin why she's traveling with Kenshiro, and Lin says Ken is warm. Mamiya is surprised to hear that, but then they both hear something nearby. Mamiya calls out to whoever is there, as Rei appears. She tells him to get out, but he walks towards them. Mamiya pulls her yoyos out and says he'll get hurt...

...but he slices them apart. She tells him to get out, as she'll call for help, but Rei tells her to do it -whoever comes will just die. Mamiya tries to attack him, but he evades her punches.

He grabs her towel and pulls it off, and says she's so beautiful... giving her to the bandits would be such a waste. He tells her that his name is Rei, and asks her what her name is.

But before she can answer, there is an explosion outside. Part of the barricade is blown apart, as the Fangs begin their attack. Rei is annoyed that the Fangs have made their move already, and runs back outside.

As Mamiya goes after him, Lin thinks that Rei's eyes just now... when he looked at Mamiya, his eyes were as gentle as Ken's can be. Rei and Mamiya head back out, and run through the flowers. Rei turns around and looks at Mamiya...

...who turns into someone else, someone who calls out for her brother. She tells her brother to help her, and Rei says her name: Airi. But he then sees that it's not really Airi, it's Mamiya. He looks forward again, and continues running. As this is going on, most of the Fangs fight with the villagers.

However, some of them break into a storeroom, where some of the woman and children are hiding. One of the kids stabs a Fang with a knife, but he pulls the weapon out of his arm and licks the blood off of it.

The Fangs then find that there's also a lot of food and water here, which they start to take. They also decide that they'll take the women too, and tell them that they'll be their masters from now on. One of them grabs a kid, but before he can do anything else, three rocks get slammed into his face.

The Fangs see someone at the door, and rush up to him, only to find that it's one of their own. But his head explodes, as the Fangs realize it's that guy again. They head outside...

...only to find that Kenshiro has killed all of their brothers. He tells them to leave this village, and never return. They say they've got their own strong man this time, and attack him. Kenshiro remains in place.

Seemingly without even moving, Kenshiro strikes pressure points on the Fangs. Most of them get blown apart, as the few more attack. Kenshiro deals with them too.

Rei walks forward, as one of the Fangs tells him to kill Kenshiro. However, Rei decides to kill him instead.

The Fang has his head sliced apart, and Kenshiro immediately recognizes the style: the South Star waterfowl fist. Rei says he's changed his mind.

A Fang jumps up behind him Rei, but Kenshiro says that guy is already dead. Rei watches as the Fang's back is blown open, and he realizes it's the only school as strong as the South Star holy fist school.

The legendary martial art, taught only to a sole successor: the North Star divine fist! Mamiya says these guys aren't normal protectors, and wonders who they really are. Bat says he has a bad feeling about this.

The remaining Fangs run away, as Kenshiro asks Rei why he betrayed them. Rei says he picked the stronger side, as he has to survive. He has to survive, at least until he's killed the man with seven scars on his chest! It's all that he lives for, and for that purpose, he's betrayed and killed others. Kenshiro decides to not mention that he is the man with seven scars.

Nearby, Kemada beats up the surviving Fangs, not happy that they ran away, or that Rei betrayed them. He wonders how they'll explain this to their father, and thinks that he'll never forgive Kenshiro or Rei, ever. Instead, he's going to tell his father on them. They go back to where their father, the Fang King, is. The huge King of the Fang clan stands over them.

Fang King asks how this could happen to his sons, and cries over how some of them have been wiped out. He tells the others to send out a new force to attack the village, as they'll kill them all!
