Hiei walks through an icy world. He suddenly stops and thinks about something. Someone says that Hina gave birth to twins, and one of them is a boy. The elder says the boy is an abominable child. Hina begs for her child to be given back to her. But the elder refuses, saying any abominable children are cast out.

Later, another ice apparition called Rui is told not to pity the child. Hina tells her to stop, but Rui drops the baby, sending him falling off of their floating island. Suddenly, Hiei wakes up, and realizes he had that dream again.

Unforgettable Memories -
A Time of Birth

There are three great powers in the Demon Realm: Mukuro, Yomi and Raizen. These three, for their own purposes, have called to the Demon Realm...

...Hiei, Kurama and Yusuke. Yusuke, upon meeting both his distant ancestor and father, Raizen, challengee him to fight right from the start.

Yusuke was no match for Raizen, and is now training with Hokushin and the others.

He tries to punch Hokushin, but Hokushin teleports out of the way. He and the others each strike Yusuke, knocking him down.

Hokushin thinks Yusuke would be better off not being so reckless, but Yusuke tells him to shut up. He tells them all to stop holding back on him, and fight like they mean it -it's not training otherwise. They then hear Raizen's stomach rumbling. Yusuke says that there's no way he's giving up until he puts his old man's nose out of joint. And he wants Hokushin and the others to come at him with that same kind of determination.

At Mukuro's mobile fortress, Mukuro thinks Raizen is disgraceful. He asks Kirin how he is doing. Kirin realizes he means Hiei, the demon he'd summoned here half a year ago. He says Hiei should still be in the underground ring, fighting with the subordinates. As he's requested, 500 A class demons have been sent to face Hiei, so he could be dead. Mukuro asks Kirin how long has it been since he became his number two. Kirin says about 250 years. Mukuro says he should have sent 1,000 instead of 500. Kirin asks him why he's so interested in Hiei, as he's just some ordinary A class demon.

In the ring, Hiei sends out a black dragon wave, which destroys many demons. There are barely any left, but three remain up in some trees. One suggests attacking now, but another suggests they wait until Hiei goes to sleep.

As Hiei sits down, the demons all attack together... but are instantly sliced up by Hiei. He calls them a bunch of pushovers.

As he goes to sleep, he is soon dreaming again. A floating island is seen, known as the Land of Glaciers. It's where the ice maidens live, and they avoid interaction with the outside world. Their land is enveloped in thick clouds. Several ice maidens gather, and discuss the matter of Hina giving birth to twins -one of which is a boy. One of the elders calls the boy an abominable child, and says Hina had an affair with a man during the time of vision, that happens every century.

As most of the ice maidens criticize Hina for what she did, another one, Rui, holds the baby boy. She thinks about how the life of an ice maiden is long, but every hundred years, during the time of division, they bear a single child, without help from anyone. Their children should always be female, so long as no relations are had with men. As the elders wondered what to do, they did not know that Hiei could see and hear them all.

Hina begs for her child to be given back to her, but the elder tells her she has violated the prohibitions of the ice maidens. She must know of the calamity that befell their village before, when an abominable child came upon them. Hina says she knows of it. The elder says abominable boys will surely bring disaster upon them. Hina says in that case, she'll leave the village, and raise the child. She asks again for the boy to be given back to her, but the elder refuses. She says abominable children are cast out.

Whenever ice maidens interact with other races, only boys are born to them. And these boys usually always possess cruel, brutal natures. Ice maidens who bear baby boys always end up dead, without exception. It is done out of fear for the preservation of the ice maiden species. The elder tells Rui that she knows she and Hina are close. But she says there's no need for pity, as she knows how many of their sisterhood have been killed by abominable children. Rui takes a necklace out, which has a crystal on it. She places it on Hiei.

Despite Hina screaming for her to stop, Rui drops Hiei off the Land of Glaciers. However, Hiei survived. As soon as he was born, he had a purpose in life, which he was glad for. He wanted to kill all of the women in the Land of Glaciers. Hiei then wakes up, realizing he had that dream again.

Mukuro then walks in, and asks him if he's awake. He sees that A class demons can't even gang up on him to win. He asks if he could try going one on one with one of the warriors directly under her command. He really didn't think he'd be able to progress this far in just half a year. Hiei says it feels the stronger he gets, the more distant he becomes. He still doesn't know what kind of demon he is, or what his face looks like. He asks him if he'd like to see.

He laughs and tells him not to be impatient. It's not as though he's going to say he's his father or something. But maybe it is time he got to see what he looks like. He decides to bring one warrior here, who probably has the same amount of power that Hiei does. If he can defeat him, he'll show him what he looks like. He explains that in addition to his lower class warriors, he always keeps 77 carefully selected warriors with him as his attendants. There's no deep meaning to that number -he just likes it. He also says that if Hiei beats him, he'll bestow upon him his title of warrior. Hiei says that title has no interest to him, but Mukuro tells him not to say that. If he becomes a warrior, it'll make most demons become most cooperative with him. It makes looking for things easier, too. He heads off, and says he'll be back in five minutes.

Hiei gets up, and slices down a statue. As it falls apart, he notices the necklace he's wearing, which has a crystal on it.

Before Yusuke departed for the Demon Realm, Yukina gave him the necklace. She knew he was going to the Demon Realm, and asked him to take it with him. It's a memento of her mother, and when ice maidens bear a child, they shed one tear. It becomes a crystal of a different color than a regular hirui stone, and is given to the child that is born. It was said that her mother, Hina, shed two tears. She has one of the crystals, whilst her brother should have the other one. Hiei thinks she's lucky Tarukane didn't steal it from her, but she reveals she hid it in her stomach. Hiei wants to know why she's giving him this.

She says her brother is said to have been encircled by a fiery demon energy. It was so bad that he couldn't be held unless his whole body was wrapped in curse-confining talismans, according to what Rui told her. Hiei asks who that is, and Yukina says Rui is a friend of her mother's. Hiei realizes Rui was the woman who threw him. Yukina says that her brother is a similar race to Hiei's, and asks that if he meets anyone who has a similar crystal, to give them that one as well. And tell them that she is in the Human Realm. Hiei tells her that her brother must be dead, if he was thrown from a castle in the sky. Yukina is sure he is alive, so Hiei asks her why. She says it was something else Rui said: she believed that boy would someday come back to take revenge.

Before she threw Hiei, Rui told him to come back to them alive, and when he does, kill her first. That will be all she could do to make things up to Hina. Yukina says that if their land cannot survive without having its heart freeze over, she'd rather it be destroyed. That's how she feels. Hiei tells her that's the reason she fled, and that her story about her being allowed to leave her land to search for her brother was a lie. He tells her not to pretend to be so helpless -if she wants to destroy it, she should do it herself. She shouldn't count on any brother of hers, especially when she doesn't know if he's alive or dead.

Yukina tells him he really is right. And for some reason, if she ever met her brother, he'd tell her the same thing. Back in the present, Hiei watches the statue fall apart.

He thinks that his hirui stone has his demon energy infused with it, yet he still can't locate it, even with his evil eye. He thinks that there's a pretty good chance that someone is concealing it in their stomach. He then hears Mukuro thanking him for waiting. As he walks in, there is someone else with him:

Shigure

Hiei asks him since when was he one of Mukuro's men. Shigure says it was right after he performed his evil eye transplant. Mukuro asks if they know each other, but Shigure says they were a doctor and patient, that's all. He did also show him the most basic forms of swordsmanship, but it appears that Hiei has now polished that into a form of his own. He is surprised at Hiei's power now, as the evil eye transplant alters one's abilities -it signifies a rebirth. It means that one's spectral power sinks down to the level of an infant. Hiei's power dropped from A class to the lowest level. But in just a few years, his power is even greater than when it was when he first met him.

He says that it appears Hiei has found the hirui stone he was looking for. Hiei hides it and says it isn't his. Shigure knows that it must be his sister's stone, but either way, it means he must have found one of the thing he was looking for. Mukuro asks to hear more, so Shigure explains that Hiei wanted the evil eye to find two things he was searching for. One of the things was the Land of Glaciers, which was where his sister was. The other thing was a hirui stone, which was a memento of his mother. Shigure says he judges whether or not he accept such requests based on whether or not he is drawn to the life of the patient. As payment for the operation, he takes part of the patient's life afterward. His fee was that if Hiei ever did locate his sister, he couldn't tell her he was her brother.

He says if Hiei can defeat him now, he will return his payment. Hiei says that, like he told him before the operation, he never intended to reveal who he was in the first place. Mukuro says that's enough reminiscing -a fight is a fight. They are to stake their lives.

As the two get ready, Mukuro thinks that an earnest battle is the best, regardless of one's capabilities. At the moment when it is decided, the journey taken by both sides blossoms and scatters like fireworks. He tells them to begin.

Hiei's hidden past has become more and more clear. Standing before his eyes is the man who brought about the crossroads in his life, Shigure! Even as his destiny is being tossed about, this inevitable battle is speeding him toward his fate.
