Synopsis
In the Demon Realm, Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei keep trying to fight Sensui, but he is too much for them. Back in the Human Realm, Keiko and Shizuru notice that Puu suddenly starts glowing blue, and floats up high into the sky. They start following him. In the cave, the Special Defense Squad arrive. Captain Otake tells Ohou, Sorai and Saito to start closing up the hole, and has Ryohi, Rinpai and Shunjun head into the tunnel and deal with any demons who attempt to come through. He and the other members the talk to Koenma. He tells Koenma that his father has order him to return to the Spirit Realm, but Koenma refuses to go, as he wants to head to the Demon Realm.
In the city, Keiko and Shizuru notice Puu suddenly starts to glow very brightly, and when the light dies down, they are covered up by the shadow of a large creature, which flies off. Back in the cave, Otake explains that Yusuke is a descendant of demonkin. Koenma realizes it must be demonkin grand atavism. Otake says that's correct, and that it means genetic hybridization with a human that only A class demons or higher can achieve. Yusuke has demonkin blood, which he inherited through demonkin grand atavism, flowing through him. When Yusuke died the first time, he still had neither the ability nor the capacity necessary to withstand being reborn as a demonkin. By bringing him back to life as a spirit detective, they've inadvertently assisted him in becoming a demonkin. King Enma has ordered them to eliminate Urameshi, and when Mitarai tries to protest, one of the SDS members blasts him.
Otake also stuns Koenma, telling him that his team's actions have been decided upon as the will of the Spirit Realm. However they then notice that Yusuke's body is floating, and has started to emit demon energy. The team start firing at it, but as they do, a creature crashes through the ceiling, and protects Yusuke's body.
When the smoke clears, Yusuke is alive once more, whilst the creature who protected him is Puu, who has grown immensely in size. Yusuke says he heard the last half of what they were saying, and initially acts like he's going to kill them all, but then tells them it was just an act -he's still Yusuke Urameshi, and he doesn't care if his ancestors were demonkin. His goal is still to defeat Sensui, so he's heading to the Demon Realm. Koenma says he'll go too, but Otake tries to stop him. Yusuke kicks him in the face and tells him to leave them alone. He and Koenma get on Puu, and after telling the unconscious Mitarai they'll come back for him later, they fly off through the hole.
As they fly through subspace, they pass over Ryohi, Rinpai and Shunjun, and then arrive in the Demon Realm. Sensui was about to finish Kuwabara and the others off, but then sees Yusuke. Yusuke tells him they can pick up from where they left off. What will be the outcome of their battle?
-In the manga, Keiko visits Atsuko at her apartment, and finds her with Puu. In the anime, this was changed to Keiko being with Shizuru, and the two are in Mushiyori City.
-In the manga, Mitarai does not get blasted by one of the SDS members.
-Otake's flashback scene, where he speaks to Enma, isn't in the manga.
-In the manga, Yusuke doesn't have any dialogue after kicking Otake in the face, but in the anime he does.
-The scene where Ryohi, Rinpai and Shunjun encounter Yusuke, Koenma and Puu is after the scene where Sensui is about to finish Kuwabara's group off. In the anime, these scenes were switched around.
-After the scene where Puu flies through subspace, the manga has a scene where Otake explains to his team about S class demons, and how they must close up the hole. This scene is used in the next episode of the anime.
-During the opening recap, when the SDS are shown heading off to the Human Realm, they become white streaks of light. However in the previous episode, the light streaks were colored red.
