Of the three boys that have abducted Yusuke, one of them, Kaito, has a unique ability called taboo. Inside his territory, contests of words are everything. Having spoken the taboo word, Hiei, Kuwabara and Botan each had their souls taken from them. However, Kurama took advantage of this ability, defeating Kaito with some psychological strategy. What will be the next ability to stand in the way of the group as they advance?

A New Mystery

Yanagisawa wakes up to find Kurama and the others looking at him. He gets up and realizes Kaito was defeated.

Kurama tells him they've opened two doors already, one with the key he had, and another using the key that Kaito was holding. They found a note on the third door, which stated that if it was opened with Yanagisawa's permission, it will mean Urameshi's death. Yana says that's right, so Hiei tells him to hurry up and give them permission now. Yana tells him not to talk so arrogantly.

Elsewhere, Kido tells Yusuke that it appears as if his friends have defeated Kaito. But that still doesn't mean they'll make it up here safely, Yusuke asks him how long he intends to have him stand here like this, and Kido asks him if he'd like to move a little. He briefly steps out of his shadow, but has to step back in almost straight away -in the brief time he was out, Yusuke almost managed to punch him.

Yana opens the last door, which has several sets of stairs in it. Yana says Urameshi is on the second floor, but each of them must use a different stairway to get there. Kurama asks what he's planning, but he just says that's a good question. If they want to save Urameshi, they'll follow his instructions. Botan has an idea, and opens up the case of Spirit Realm tools. For when you're in a fix, the fifth item is what you need:

MARKING SEALS

Kuwabara asks what these are. Botan explains that these are improved versions of the tattoo seals that get affixed to arrested criminals. Once it's affixed, only the person who stuck it on can remove it. She demonstrates this on Kuwabara, and also says that if the person who put it on dies, it will come off by itself.

They also have the function to tell you the condition of the person who pasted it on by the changing colors. Blue means they're healthy, yellow means they're slightly injured, and red means they're heavily injured.

Kurama says he gets it -if they write their own names on the seals, and place them on each other, then if anything were to happen to one of them on the way to the second floor, they'd know immediately. He looks at Yana for approval, but he just tells them to feel free to use them. They apply the seals to each other.

Botan tells Hiei he's the only one left, but he says he doesn't want any. She says everyone has to have them, but he really doesn't want any. However whilst he's distracted with her, Kurama places one on him before he can do anything about it. He asks Hiei what he'll do if his soul gets taken away again or something.

Botan and Kuwabara add their seals onto him. The group then select the staircases they want, and move out. Yana calls Kido, and tells him the four are heading his way, right on schedule.

Kido says if they really outsmarted Kaito, then one of the four is very sharp-witted. He tells Yusuke that his four friends will be here to rescue him soon. Yusuke asks him what he plans to do when they do arrive, as there's no way for him to block all of their shadows at the same time. They could just break the light behind him, and then he won't be able to use his ability. Kido chuckles, and Yusuke yells at him that if he'd realized what his ability was from the start, he wouldn't have been caught so easily. Kido admits his ability is weak, but even so, Yusuke is still here, in his custody.

Meanwhile, everyone is going up the stairs. Kuwabara thinks he's going up, but then suddenly finds that he's going back down! Botan's staircase seems to sideways, and she thinks it's making her feel sick walking along it.

Kurama's stairs keep seemingly moving around. Hiei uses his sword to cut up some mirrors, revealing that most of the stairs are illusions.

He heads towards the door. Meanwhile, Kido tells Yusuke he could kill him if he just lightly blocked his mouth and nose. Yusuke tells him to do it, he's rather take that than be caught here so undignified like this. Kido tells him to take it easy, and just wait until the other four get here.

The four then arrive. Kuwabara asks him what he's standing around for, as they thought he'd been captured. Yusuke explains to them about Kido's shadow ability. Kido says that's right, but he's not their opponent -one of those four is. He tells Yusuke that one of his four friends is an imposter, and he must find out who it is within the next 10 minutes.

Kido tells the four that they will only answer Yusuke's questions, and no other talking is allowed. Kuwabara thinks that's ridiculous, and Botan agrees, saying who could disguise themselves that well in such a short amount of time. Kido says he told them no other talking is allowed, or something bad will happen to the hostage they now have.

Hiei says he could kill him before he does anything to Yusuke. Kido explains that, if one of them is an imposter, it means that the real one has been captured. In other words, there is another hostage besides Yusuke. Kido tells them all that if anything happens to him, his friends will kill the other hostage. The same thing will happen if Yusuke doesn't find the imposter, and now he has 9 minutes to do it.

Kido asks Yusuke if he'll play or not. Yusuke says he will, and starts by asking Kuwabara what his birthday and blood type are. Kuwabara is annoyed he's the first one to be suspected!

Yusuke tells him to just shut up and answer, but Kuwabara points out something: does he even know what his birthday and blood type are? Yusuke realizes he doesn't. He instead tries Kurama, and asks him what his mom's name is.

He correctly answers that her name is Shiori Minamino, who is aged 40 and is going to be getting married again next fall. Yusuke's glad to hear that, and asks if he can be invited to the ceremony. Kido breaks the mood by reminding Yusuke that he now has 7 minutes left.

Yusuke tries Botan next. He asks her what her three sizes are. She asks him why he needs to hear that?! For one thing, she's never told him what they are!

Yusuke tells her she did, there was that one time. Botan thinks about it... and realizes that no, she never told him her measurements! She calls him an idiot horndog. Yusuke realizes she's not falling for it.

Hiei says that this is so stupid, he can't stand it. Yusuke decides to question him next, and asks him what the name of his younger sister is. Hiei says he doesn't have to tell him, he already knows who she is. Yusuke thinks that, given Hiei's personality, that's exactly what Hiei would say.

Kuwabara is more shocked that Hiei has a younger sister -she must be one hard-looking, ill-tempered girl! Hiei says he'll kill him. Botan realizes that Kuwabara is the only one who doesn't know.

Kuwabara asks her he's the only one to not know what, as Kurama tells her to shush. Kuwabara thinks that everyone seems to know about Hiei's sister apart from him, and he wants to know who she is. Kurama says it's a long story, but this just makes Kuwabara want to know even more.

Kido says Yusuke now has 5 minutes left. Kuwabara tells Urameshi to hurry up and guess, but Yusuke then notices the strange seals they're all wearing. He wonders what they are.

Botan explains they're marking seals, from the seven tools of the Spirit Realm... something she's explained to him before! Yusuke realizes she's right. He remembers that the seals can only be taken off by the one who stuck it on.

Botan says that's right, as both people and demons have what's called an extrasensory imprint. They realize they can use this to find out who the imposter is, because the imposter won't be able to remove the seals they placed. However, when they try, they all manage to pull a seal off without issue.

Kuwabara wonders what this means, and Botan says this can't be, as the imposter shouldn't have been able to remove it. Hiei says this must mean there was no imposter to begin with, meaning Kido is bluffing. Kido says there really in an imposter among them, he can assure them of that.

He says it's Yanagisawa's copy ability. He can copy someone's voiceprint, fingerprints and that extrasensory imprint thing too. He can also copy their memories and personality. He then says the time limit is up, and tells Yusuke that he's going to release him now. He is to choose which one he thinks is the imposter, and hit them as hard as he can! It's the only way to beat Yana's ability. Kido tells him he has once chance, so he'd better think real hard before he makes his choice. Yusuke asks him why they're doing this, and Kido says someone asked them to do it.

He steps out of Yusuke's shadow, and Yusuke can move again. He then tells Yusuke he has 30 seconds to make his choice. If he doesn't act soon, he'll instruct his friends to kill the hostage.

He says there are 15 seconds left. Yusuke says he's made his choice, and charges forward. He goes to punch...

...Kuwabara! He's made the right choice, as "Kuwabara" changes back to Yana before he crashes into some paintings.

Kido says that was nicely figured out, and asks Yusuke why he thought it was Kuwabara. Yusuke says he was the easiest one for him to hit -he's used to hitting him. And unlike himself, Kurama and Hiei probably wouldn't be stupid enough to let themselves get caught. Kurama asks Hiei if his ears are burning. Yusuke says it was a choice between Botan and Kuwabara.

If they'd been low enough to capture and make use of Botan, the weakest among them, even if he'd blown it here, he'd come back and be sure to crush them all. Thinking that, he chose Kuwabara. Kido says he's impressed, but Yusuke tells him to stop messing them around, and return Kuwabara to them. Botan tells Kido now it's his turn, but Kido says he doesn't get a turn. They'll return Kuwabara, and that's where it ends. But before that, he says they'll have the person who was working behind the scenes come forward.

The doors opens, and out steps Genkai! Yusuke wants to know what's going on, but Kido then bows down and apologizes to his master. She tells him there's no need for him to apologize, as she was the one came up with most of this.

Kurama says he had a vague sense she would be behind something like this. Yusuke asks him to explain, so he says this was all done to make introductions, in a somewhat poor taste. Genkai says that's kind of right, but she didn't do this for the fun of it. She wanted everyone to directly experience the abilities of the territories, which are about more than just power. Kurama says he realized something was up when they got to this floor, as their opponents could have defeated them very easily in a number of ways. But since they didn't, it must have meant that there was some purpose for this. And since Genkai knows them all so well, he couldn't think of anyone else who would do this in such a roundabout way.

Hiei says he still doesn't understand the reason for this. Why did she go so far to have them understand their abilities like this? Genkai tells him that he and the others are strong, but she wanted them to see that, depending on the method, there are still people out there who are able to kill them. He had his soul taken from him when he was in Kaito's territory, which Yusuke can't believe.

Genkai reminds Yusuke he also got captured, but Yusuke assures her that if he'd known what his opponent's territory was, he wouldn't have slipped up like that. Genkai asks him if he thinks a real enemy would have taken then trouble to voluntarily reveal their ability to him. Yusuke realizes what she's saying, as she tells them that being caught by your opponent means your death. Yusuke asks who their enemies are -as it's clearly not Kaito, Kido and Yana. Genkai tells Kido to explain.

He tells them that he and his friends went to Genkai, to consult her about their strange powers. From her, they learnt about Yusuke's incredible spiritual power. They've only recently been able to use their abilities, which came upon them abruptly. Genkai says that the cause is the effect of a hole to the Demon Realm.

The hole is a boundary tunnel connecting the Human Realm to the Demon Realm. It's the very same thing that Sakyo was trying to do. Kuwabara then walks in, and says Genkai explained everything to him -someone is trying to open a doorway to the Demon Realm: a dangerously huge doorway of darkness. Yusuke tells him the look on his face doesn't match his outfit. Kuwabara heads off to get his clothes back from Yana.

Botan says that Sakyo is supposed to have died. Genkai says Sakyo died for sure, so this means that there's someone out there who wants to carry out Sakyo's wishes. Yusuke wonders who this person could be.

A new crisis appears before Yusuke and the others. Who is this person who is carrying on Sakyo's wishes? And what sort of thing is this giant boundary tunnel to the Demon Realm?
