Synopsis

Realizing this is Kurama's true form, Hiei thinks back to the time when he introduced Kurama to Gouki. Gouki didn't believe Kurama was the legendary demon fox, but Kurama quickly proved how powerful he was by using his rose whip to destroy part of the forest. Back in the present, Yoko Kurama summons a shi kemono shokubutsu (devourer demon plant) and threatens to have it devour Ura Urashima unless he tells him the secrets of the smoke.

However Urashima claims to not know anything, as it was Shishiwakamaru who gave him the treasure box in the first place. Before he can say any more, he is killed when Shishiwakamaru throws a sword through his neck. This causes Urashima to revert to his true form: an illusion beast. Shishiwakamaru rolls the dice, and he will be fighting for his team, whilst the Urameshi team have a free choice. Hiei, Kurama and Kuwabara can't agree on who's going to fight next, but eventually settle things by playing rock, paper, scissors. Kuwabara wins the game, and gets ready to fight.

Elsewhere, Botan's group are still ont he way to the stadium, but Keiko worries about Yusuke. Shizuru tells her not to worry, as they know how strong Yusuke is. In the cave, Yusuke seems to be on the brink of death, but revives when he is given a sip of water. He wakes up and sees Puu is trying to help him, despite being in as much pain as he is. As Puu goes off to try and get more water, part of the cave collapses, threatening Puu's life. Yusuke suddenly revives, as his body accepts the spirit wave orb he received from Genkai.

He saves Puu by kicking apart a massive rock with a single kick, and then takes him out of the cave. They find Genkai, and Yusuke asks her to look after Puu for him. Yusuke then collapses. Genkai tells him to sleep well, as his real battle begins when he wakes up again.

Manga differences

-During the flashback scene with Gouki, Kurama doesn't use his rose whip to destroy some trees in the manga, he only does that in the anime. In the manga, Kurama scares Gouki off just by throwing out some of his demon energy.

-In the manga, you see Shishiwakamaru's sword piercing through Urashima's neck. In the anime it's not quite as clear, instead showing the sword seemingly hit behind his neck.

-Any scenes with Koenma and Jorge in the VIP box in this episode weren't in the manga.

-The scenes with Botan's group in this episode weren't in the manga either.

-The scene where the Urameshi team decide on who fights next via playing rock, paper, scissors happens later in the manga -it's after Yusuke meets with Genkai, and passes Puu to her.

-In the manga, Yusuke has already fallen down and is thinking about water. In the anime, Yusuke does some other stuff before this, such as screaming and hitting a wall with his head repeatedly.

-In the manga, Yusuke does not save Puu, as he doesn't have to -part of the cave doesn't start to collapse. He just stands up, yells that he doesn't feel any pain, and then the next time we see him, he and Puu are outside with Genkai. The anime changed this to him having to force himself to get up so he can save Puu from being crushed.
