Synopsis
At the cave, Genkai believes this trial is too much for Yusuke to endure, and she removes the spirit wave orb from him. However he takes it back from her and absorbs it again, saying he can endure it. Back at the stadium, the next fight will have Hiei fight Kuro Momotaro. Momotaro confirms with Onji that Hiei won't be able to use his black dragon wave technique, due to not having enough demon energy to do so.
Momotaro takes Hiei's sword and slices his own arm with it. He then takes out an item of darkness, called the strange, beautiful sweet dumpling. He crushes it and inhales the fumes, which causes him to transform. It gives him the first of his war beast armors: the armor of the demon monkey. He throws Hiei his sword back, and the fight then begins. Hiei tries attacking with his sword, only for it to shatter when it hits Momotaro's arm.
Momotaro hits Hiei and sends him flying off the ring. He reveals he cut his own arm earlier because his body completely memorizes the offensive abilities of an opponent by the damage it takes. He cut his arm with the sword earlier to memorize its power. Then, in order to overcome Hiei's offensive capability, he ate one of his dumplings. His dumplings are specialized items which allow him to endure an opponent's offensive abilities, and grant him even greater power. Elsewhere, at the hotel, Botan and the others wake up and realize they're missing the fights. They head off (although Shizuru has to drink some juice to sober up), whilst Keiko has to go back to their hotel room and get Puu.
Back at the stadium, Momotaro tells Hiei to use his black dragon wave, so Hiei says he'll oblige him. Kurama knows Hiei can't do it though -Hiei's current demon energy is only between 60 and 70%, which is not enough to summon the dragon without it destroying Hiei himself. However, Hiei uses a different technique: jao ensatsu rengoku shou (wicked king immolation purgatory scorch), which involves him summoning flames from the Human Realm instead of the Demon Realm.
Whilst Momotaro is hit by this, he survives and uses another dumpling. This transforms his body again, now giving him the armor of the demon pheasant. Koto comments that Momotaro's form and demon energy have become even more ominous and powerful. Faced with such a desperate pinch, does Hiei have any hope of winning? And will Yusuke be able to overcome the final trial that has been given to him by Genkai?

-At one point, Toguro is shown watching the fight, and he looks worried -it's when Momotaro uses a dumpling for the first time. Before this he's said the other teams weren't worth even watching, but apparently Momotaro gave him pause for thought. This shot wasn't in the manga.
