Kuwabara finds out from Kurama that everyone he knows lost at the tournament. Kurama says they did all have good fights, at least. Kuwabara is surprised that even Urameshi lost. He's glad he himself didn't go though, as he does realize the limits of his own strength. Two girls then show up, and ask Kazu where he's going. He tells them he has some business to take care of. They ask him to introduce them to his girlfriend.

Kuwabara has to explain to them that Kurama is a guy. They think he's got it going with the guys too, but he says he doesn't swing that way. As they get on their train, they tell Kazu to take them out sometime. As their train leaves, Kurama tells Kuwabara that he seems to be pretty popular with the girls. Kuwabara explains that right after he started at his new school, he predicted an earthquake, which made him come across as pretty cool.

As they get on their train, Kurama asks Kuwabara if he found the entrance exam for his school easy. Kuwabara says it was no different than any other entrance exam, but he then says it's been two years already. Two years since he last saw Urameshi. He says he has seen Kurama every once in a while, and they've caught up on things, so it doesn't feel that long, yet it really has been a while. Kurama says Yusuke hasn't changed, whilst Kuwabara wonders if he's not coming back. Kurama explains that Yusuke said he had a few loose ends to tie up. He also heard that he told Keiko to wait for him for three years. Kuwabara thinks that as Urameshi lost in the tournament, he should just come straight back, as that would make Keiko happy.

At Keiko's school, the bell rings. As everyone leaves, two of Keiko's friends ask her to wait up. They ask her if she wants to go to Shibuya with them, but she says she has to go someplace else right now. Her friends wonder if she's going on a date, and has finally gotten a boyfriend. Keiko says she wishes that was the case. Meanwhile, Kurama and Kuwabara are waiting in a train station's coffee shop. Kuwabara says there's something bothering him. Two years ago, they had to deal with Sensui and the hole to the Demon Realm. The hole was closed up, so he asks Kurama how he's able to come and go between the Demon and Human Realms.

Kurama says it's because the Spirit Realm lifted the periphery field between the two Realms. Kuwabara says he gets it... and then realizes what this means! He can't believe it, and says now there's no telling where some demons could be. Shizuru then walks up, asking him what he's bellowing about.

Kuwabara tells his sister to be careful, as there could be demons around. Shizuru wonders what he's talking about, but Kurama says not to worry -there is a gentleman's agreement in place. The demons won't be working any malevolence. Someone then taps on the window...

...as they see that Keiko has arrived. Kuwabara sees that she's grown her hair longer, and then tells everyone it's time they got going. Shizuru buys a few things first, but Kuwabara asks her what she's taking her time for -they're about to move out!

They get on a train and it heads off. Kuwabara thinks his sister was so considerate, getting all this food for them, and when he sees Kurama and Keiko aren't eating, he asks if he can have theirs. Shizuru tells him to just shut up and eat. As she reads her paper, she comes across a surprising sight: Hiei! The paper has him listed as an "alien".

Kuwabara looks at the paper and says it's Hiei alright. But he thought Hiei was meant to be in the Demon Realm. Kurama explains that Hiei is on patrol. Due to the periphery field being removed, occasionally, there have been cases of humans entering the Demon Realm. In the Demon Realm, Mukuro's mobile fortress is on the move. A tracker demon tells Hiei that he can smell a human nearby.

Hiei finds the guy, and tells the other demons with him to pick him up. One of the demons asks about what they should do in regards to irrigating this human's lungs, but Hiei doesn't care. He says if the human dies, then it was his time to go. They take the guy inside, and as he briefly wakes up, Hiei tells him they're about to return him to his original world. But when he next wakes up, he will have forgotten about these events.

As a result of an autonomous code proclaimed by Enki, the tournament winner, humans that wander into the Demon Realm are taken into protective custody and returned to the Human Realm. To that end, patrol squads were set up, with the tournament losers serving as squad members.

Hiei, Kirin and a few other members of Mukuro's forces talk about what has happened. Some of them aren't happy about having to keep patrolling like this for three years. Kirin tells them to stop complaining, as this is their own fault for having lost. One of them says he still can't believe Enki was able to defeat Mukuro. Kirin says Mukuro used all the power she had at the time. Her strength is greatly influenced by her state of mind, and at that friendly tournament, the most she could muster was about half her true power. He doesn't think they'll ever see her true strength from now on, as the look in her eye has become unbelievably gentle. He doesn't know why this happened. Hiei then goes to visit Mukuro. She asks him how the patrol went, and he says it was lame. She tells him he can go back to the Human Realm, if he wants to.

Hiei sits down and says that's up to him to decide. Back on the train, Kuwabara thinks that's Hiei for you. Kurama says Hiei is doing fine, in his own way. Kuwabara then asks what Genkai wants with them, as she's asked them to come to her place. Keiko says she doesn't know, all she said was it had been a long time, and they should all come over. Kuwabara wonders if something new has come up, but Kurama doesn't think that's the case.

Later on, the group arrive at Genkai's place. Yukina greets them all, and asks them all to come in. She says it has been so long, whilst Shizuru asks her if she's been lonesome, since she's been living here with just Genkai. Yukina says she's been fine, as Kazuma comes to visit them every once in a while.

Shizuru thinks her brother has been holding out of them. Kuwabara sheepishly explains that as he was the only one in the Human Realm, he just came by here to relay Kurama's reports about what was going on. Genkai then appears, and sees that they're here. They go inside, and Genkai realizes that Yusuke still hasn't come back. She wonders what he's doing over in the Demon Realm.

Kuwabara thinks Urameshi really doesn't think about anything else but fighting. Shizuru nudges him, and he realizes he's being a bit insensitive to Keiko's feelings. But Keiko then says this is still refreshing -it's nice to see Genkai's face again after such a long time.

Shizuru and Kuwabara say they find it refreshing as well. Genkai says she's not here to act as a tranquilizer. As everyone laughs, Botan then appears, and says hello to everyone.

Koenma then also appears. Genkai says that as everyone is now here, there is only one reason why she asked them all to gather together. She wants to discuss with them what she wants to happen when she passes away. Kuwabara asks her why she's brought this up so suddenly, and Shizuru tells her not to talk like that.

Yukina tells her she can't pass away, and Botan doesn't want to hear that kind of talk. Genkai tells them to pipe down and listen. She opens the doors and says in the event she passes away, she leaves this place to them. It will take a lot more time before the point comes where humans and demons can truly coexist. It takes several hours to get to the nearest town from here by car.

She says that may make it an inconvenient place for people to live, but it makes it an ideal place as a hideout for demons. She wishes to leave this place here among nature, and have them put it to good use. Later on, as the group leave, they take a look at the massive forest around the place, and Kurama says all of it is Genkai's property, for as far as the eye can see. Shizuru then asks if they can make a quick stop on their way home, and Kuwabara asks Yukina to come along with them.

As they head down the steps, Botan wonders what'll happen if Genkai ends up living longer than any of them. Shizuru thinks that could happen. As the girls keep heading down, Kuwabara waits, and takes another look back. Kurama asks him what's wrong. Kuwabara remembers that it was up this long flight of stairs that Urameshi and he first met Genkai, and went through that tournament to become her pupils. They then fought the Four Saint Beasts, battled Tarukane, and entered the Dark Tournament together. And then Urameshi even went off and become a demonkin. To him, it feels like it all started with these stairs.

Botan then shouts up to them, asking them what are they doing. Shizuru tells them not to go and start getting affectionate with each other. Kuwabara quickly runs down the steps, shouting for Yukina not to leave him behind. As they go, Koenma says they're a good bunch, which Genkai agrees with.

The group head down to a beach. Botan thinks it's a great view, and Yukina says she's never seen a sunset which is so pretty. She and Keiko then run off closer to the water.

Botan says she's going too, whilst Kuwabara decides to go look for some jellyfish. As Keiko and Yukina look at the sunset, Yukina comments on how pretty it is. Keiko says it's also pretty during the daytime, as both the sea and the sky are a rich blue. She likes the sea when it's the middle of the day. She tells Yukina they'll have to see it together at that time someday. Kuwabara then calls over to Yukina, telling her to check out this giant starfish he's found. Botan has found a load of seashells as well.

As Yukina runs over to them, Keiko stares out to the sea. She thinks about Yusuke.

She then yells out that Yusuke is an idiot -he should stop taking so long, and hurry and come home! She won't wait any more than three years. As she continues to watch the sunset, she then hears someone tell her he won't make her wait that long.

That someone is Yusuke, who has returned to the Human Realm. He says he's home, and Keiko runs over to him. She leaps into his arms, knocking him over.

The two kiss, and continue to do so until a large wave crashes over them. The two stare at each other for a few seconds...

...until Yusuke asks her what she went and did that for. He chases her into the sea, and the two start splashing water over each other.

Kuwabara laughs at them, until Yusuke throws some water over him. As Kuwabara runs into the sea to join them, so do Botan and Yukina.

Kuwabara grabs Yusuke and says he thought he was going to become king of the Demon Realm. Yusuke says he will -someday. He'll challenge them again. Kuwabara thinks he'll have him knocked out flat before that happens. Yusuke tells him to go ahead and do that -if he can!
