Synopsis

Yusuke manages to get up and continue his fight with Kibano, but he still can't figure out where he is. He takes another hit, but manages to grab Kibano's arm. He tries to break it, but before he can, Kibano uses a throw technique called zan tou senpu geki (decapitating throwing whirlwind strike). Yusuke is still able to fight on, and as Kibano charges, he hits him with a spirit gun blast to the head, defeating him. It's revealed Yusuke has placed the cigarette Genkai threw at him behind Kibano's belt, and using it as a marker, it was easy for him to see where he was. Yusuke is declared the winner, but Genkai says the next match will begin immediately: Kazemaru versus Yusuke! She leads the group to some marshlands, a place where a great battle had been held a long time a go. She says that it has the strongest spiritual power of anywhere on this mountain, and is the place most suitable for them to make use of their spiritual powers whilst fighting.

The first semifinal match begins, and Kazemaru initially overwhelms Yusuke. But Yusuke strikes back with a punch which would have taken Kazemaru out, had he not managed to avoid it at the last moment. He decides to not get close to his opponent again, and throws out several shuriken which are drawn to Yusuke's spirit energy, and home in on him. They also explode on contact, as Yusuke finds out when he gets a couple of them to hit a tree. Realizing he can't win, he decides to take Kazemaru out with him and charges, but not before telling Kuwabara he's leaving the rest to him. Kazemaru is about to use his own spirit blast on Yusuke, but Yusuke suddenly vanishes.

The shuriken meant for Yusuke head towards Kazemaru, but he uses his blast to destroy them. However the explosion hits him and take him out. It's revealed that Yusuke's disappearing act was the result of him accidentally falling into a small pond. Whilst it was a total fluke, Yusuke has won the match. The next match is about to begin, as Yusuke and Botan realize that if Kazemaru is not Rando, then the only one left now is Shorin... who is Kuwabara's next opponent!

Manga differences

-When Kibano uses his throw move, Yusuke bounces off the ground, and that's it in the manga. In the anime, after he bounces off the ground, he's seen smacking into a wall.

-Kibano's forehead bleeds when he gets hit by the spirit gun in the manga, but it doesn't in the anime.

-The scenes with Koenma in this episode are not in the manga.

-Botan and Kuwabara don't warn Yusuke about the shuriken coming back in the manga, but they do in the anime.

-Only one shuriken is seen hitting the tree in the manga, whilst two are seen hitting it in the anime (although it's implied all four actually hit, and Kazemaru sends another set out later).

-In the manga, Yusuke doesn't run towards Kuwabara, he just shouts out he's leaving the rest to him as he charges. The anime changes this a bit so Yusuke runs towards Kuwabara first, tells him his message, then changes direction and charges towards Kazemaru.

-Kuwabara doesn't ask Botan about Yusuke knowing a technique that turns him invisible in the manga.

Errors

-The blue ogre, Jorge, has yellow hair for most of the episode, but where Koenma wonders if Kazemaru is Rando, Jorge's hair is colored light blue.
