Synopsis

A group of Autobots are alerted to a situation on Goo #8739. They investigate, and find a wrecked Earth Defense Command shuttle and station. Kup realizes the damage was caused by something called death crystals, and doesn't want to say anything else about it. The group are then attacked by Blast Off and Runamuck, the latter firing a cannon that uses death crystals as ammo. The Autobots leave and are chased by the Decepticons, who blow up a comet. The Decepticons withdraw, not realizing the Autobots have survived. Kup finds one of the crystals and explains that 100,000 years ago, he was captured on a planet called Dread. He was forced to work in the mines, mining death crystals, where a monster called Chaos was. One day, Chaos attacked, causing the slaves to flee. Kup came across some imprisoned slaves but didn't save them, as he was too afraid of Chaos. Back in the present, Kup says he'd left those other robots trapped in the mines, whilst he was helpless against Chaos.

A group of Decepticons -Galvatron, Astrotrain and the Predacons -have gone to Dread. They have the slaves construct a massive cannon, which is powered by death crystals. Galvatron intends to use the cannon to destroy Cybertron. The Autobots arrive on Dread and are attacked by the Predacons, but the Autobots are able to make them retreat. The Autobots follow and find the cannon, but Kup heads into the mines, wanting to confront Chaos. The rest of the Autobots battle Predaking, who slices up part of the mine's entrance and stops the Autobots from following Kup.

Kup finds Chaos and taunts him, then runs off. He finds some slaves still imprisoned, but this time lets them out of their cell. As they all head outside, Chaos follows them, so Kup and two former slaves push the cannon and turn it around, knocking Galvatron and Astrotrain out of the way. Kup then aims the cannon at Chaos, firing a shot of death crystals which destroys Chaos and causes a volcano to erupt.

Kup and a couple of the former slaves get back to where the Autobots are, who all board Sky Lynx. Sky Lynx takes off and heads into space, where Kup asks if he ever told them about he was flying this busted shuttle named Jonagar? As Blurr, Wheelie and Wreck-Gar despair at the idea of another war story, Grimlock tells them to be quiet, as he wants to hear the story. Kup begins to tell the story, where he and Jonagar flew right into the mouth of a giant space whale. For three days and nights they were trapped inside the whale, but he figured out a way to outsmart him. As Kup goes on, Sky Lynx heads back to Cybertron.

Notes

-Goo #8739B was destroyed by Galvatron in this episode. However, the Goo featured in this episode is labeled as just "Goo #8739", so presumably it's a different Goo.

-The Ick-Yak and shrikebats are both things Kup mentioned in the Transformers movie, but this episode actually shows what they looked like.

-Runamuck makes his first appearance in this episode, but will get a bigger role in Ghost in the Machine.

-Oddly Grimlock doesn't do any fighting when the Autobots reach the cave, and just uselessly stands around in his dinosaur mode for the entire battle.

Errors

-Blurr completely sinks under the mud, but he's suddenly half out of it when Sky Lynx comes to his rescue.
-Galvatron's chest Decepticon symbol is colored red instead of purple during this shot.
-The bags under Kup's eyes are colored blue instead of gray during this shot.
