Synopsis

Believing to have made a mistake leaving Earth, Optimus Prime decides that the Autobots will go back. But they find that they can't -the ship is locked into a collision course with the sun! At the Decepticon HQ, Megatron gleefully watches the Autobot ship explode, and believes all the Autobots have been destroyed. He then goes to a press conference, where he states that the Decepticons will conquer this mudball of a planet and suck it dry of energy. The audience realize they've been had, and Megatron says yes -thanks to his partner, Shawn Berger. Ramjet, Thrust and Dirge are sent out to start wrecking the city, as Megatron announces that he christens this city as "Megatronia 1", and says soon there will be many more.

Berger breaks down and says it's over -he saw the Autobots ship streaking into the sun, which it collided with, and the Autobots died. Megatron wants all flesh creatures to start filling energon cubes, and whilst Spike wants to clear the Autobot's names, his tape is destroyed by Laserbeak. Meanwhile, the Autobots have survived, as Trailbreaker uses his force field to protect everyone, whilst Cosmos tugs them along. However, his guidance systems are still being controlled by Teletraan I, meaning the Autobots are still heading towards the sun! Back on Earth, Chip manages to sneak out of the factory he was being forced to work in, and gets to the Autobot HQ. He uses Teletraan I and finds out the ship the Autobots were in has been destroyed.

Thrust then arrives and destroys Teletraan I, before taking Chip back. The next morning, the Air Force attempts a rescue, but are forced to retreat by the Decepticons. Starscream threatens that any further rescue attempts will result in the termination of the city. Megatron gloats all cities will fall one after another, but he then hears something outside: Autobots! Thanks to Teletraan I's destruction, Cosmos was able to break away from the sun and head back to Earth. The Autobots open fire on the Decepticons.

Outnumbered, the Decepticons are defeated and forced to retreat. The Mayor asks Optimus Prime for forgiveness, and says the Autobots can stay here on Earth. Berger says he'll make amends, but Prime tells Berger he will face justice, and may it be kinder to him than it was to them. Prime orders the Autobots to transform and roll for home.

Notes

-This episodes introduces a new Autobot character: Cosmos. I get the feeling none of the writers liked Cosmos that much, as in his debut he proves to be pretty useless, nearly flying himself and all the other Autobots straight into the sun! Later episodes have him getting beaten up a lot.

-The Decepticons also get a new character: Astrotrain. Astrotrain does nothing and says nothing in this episode. It's also clear that his character model for the cartoon was based on an early prototype for this toy, which had a gray robot mode (see here), whilst when the actual toy was released, it was in white.

-Blitzwing is also featured in this episode. He was introduced here, but has been missing from the last few episodes, and has yet to say anything.

He doesn't really do much in this episode, but I just want to mention he's seen holding this nice sword, something his toy came with. He never has this sword again.

Errors

-When Spike is seen looking at the video footage again, it shows different footage from what was seen in the previous episode -the Decepticons are seen revealing themselves in a city, instead of the oil field.
-Soundwave's chest Decepticon insignia is missing during this shot.
-Starscream's eyes are colored blue instead of red when he fires his finger laser.
-When Dirge fires at a car, there is a truck next to to it. When the car explodes, the truck just completely disappears.
-Part of Blitzwing's head is colored purple instead of yellow during this shot.
-When Teletraan I displays data about Cosmos, his name is displayed as "COSMS".
