Synopsis
The Autobots save the oil rig workers, and Optimus Prime meets Spike and his father, Sparkplug. The two humans wish to help the Autobots, since they know Earth better than anyone. They are taken back to the Autobot base, where some of the Autobots show Spike what they can do -such as Hound being able to create holograms and Mirage being able to make himself invisible. Nearby, Soundwave has Ravage enter Teletraan I and gather information about the Earth's energy sources.
Spike finds Soundwave and sets off an alarm, causing the Decepticons to flee. Soundwave escapes but Ravage doesn't, as he gets caught in an energy net. Soundwave reports his findings to Megatron, who leads the Decepticons to Sherman Dam. Rumble uses his piledriver arms to create a tidal wave, as the rest of the Decepticons enter the structure to start taking energy the wave has generated. The Autobots pick up the energy readings and head to the dam, where Optimus battles Megatron.
The Decepticons gather up their energon cubes and leave. The Decepticons continue stealing energy across the planet, as Soundwave believes one more energy raid will be enough. However Starscream decides to test some of their energon cubes be using them to power a weapon. The energon works, but Megatron is annoyed, as now they'll need two energy sources. Megatron says they'll strike the Burma crystal mines and then take some rocket fuel. Trailbreaker listens in to the Decepticon's conversation, so the Autobots head to the mines.
Sparkplug says he's worked in this mine before, so he and Bumblebee are given an explosive and sent in. They plant the explosive without being seen, but as they try to leave, they are spotted by Skywarp and Thundercracker, who easily defeat them. Believing that something is wrong, Optimus heads towards the entrance, but the explosive goes off moments after he arrives. The Autobots watch in horror as their leader is blasted off the cliff...

-This episode opens with a short recap of things that happened in part 1. Oddly, there is a shot of Optimus helping Spike and Sparkplug in this recap which looks different to what it actually looked like in the episode:

The piece of debris in the isn't quite as chunky and is also now colored white instead of orange.
-The end of the previous episode had Prime state he couldn't lift the debris, but he manages it just fine at the start of this one.
-I may as well mention this now: Transformers are able to change their size if needed, such as Soundwave shrinking himself in this episode. It never gets mentioned or explained how this works, so just go with it.
-Ratchet's repair workshop is in a separate building from the Autobot's ship. This building isn't present in most future episodes, but will make a couple of random appearances.
-Trailbreaker tells Spike the reason they transform is for "disguise" and that it "beats walking". This will get retconned later on in the third season.
-Starscream uses a slingshot in this episode, which is the only episode he ever uses it. And no, his toy didn't come with one.
-As you may have noticed in some of the above images, the Decepticons have some new members in this episode. They're recolors of Starscream, Reflector and Rumble, who never get named and will quickly disappear from the series.
-When Spike is seen writing in his diary, he has a backpack with him, but when he enters the Autobot base, his backpack is gone.
-Huffer's mouth isn't moving when he says "let's take off", but Brawn's is.
-During this shot, Ratchet's head is colored black instead of white.
-During this shot, Jazz's head is largely colored white instead of black.
