Ryu and Ken have traveled to India, in search of Dhalsim, the mysterious monk who it is said can train them in the ways of hadou. Dhalsim however denied them his teachings. Ken and Ryu stayed on in the village, and soon won the hearts of the villagers. It was then that Dhalsim showed them the cave of ancients, a forbidden place which held the priceless treasure, and a horrible monster.
The boss of the treasure hunters has all the villagers gathered up, and fires some warning shots. He says that if any of them make any trouble, he'll plug them all. Dhalsim asks why they've been brought here, and notices the dead body nearby. He says this is the price of trespassing in the cave.
The boss says he must be the monk from the village, the one who made up those stories about a monster being in this cave. He thinks there was a trap in there, and one of his men is dead, whilst the other has been in it since the middle of the night. Dhalsim says both men will be dead, as trespassers must face a monster from within their very soul. The guide gets nervous about the monster, but the boss says Dhalsim is just trying to scare him. He says until they finish their business here, he doesn't want anyone's mouth to move, and if anyone wants to give him a reason to fire, they can go right ahead.
Mhenu then appears, having led Ken and Ryu to the cave. Ryu tells the two guys to drop their weapons, but the boss tells them to stow the tough talk, or he'll kill them. Ryu and Ken don't back down, so the boss asks them if they have a death wish.
Ken and Ryu take their stances, but the guide gets even more nervous, and warns them to not come any closer. The boss asks if they are trying to get everyone killed, but Ken and Ryu move in closer. The two look like they're about to attack, but Dhalsim suddenly gets in front of them. He asks the boss what he wants of them.
Ken and Ryu are surprised, and Ryu says they don't have to take this guy's bull. Dhalsim says this is why he calls the two of them beasts, as their violence will bring only harm to the villagers behind them. Ken and Ryu look at all of the villagers.
The boss says the only thing they want is the treasure. If they help them get it, they'll let them live. Dhalsim says the treasure awaits them in the cave, but the boss says he'd rather send one of them to go and get it -he's not so eager to run into whatever did that to his dead buddy. The guide suggests getting the monk to bring it out, but the boss decides to send the two tough guys in. Ryu says that's fine, and Ken says they'll do it if it means they'll leave the villagers in peace.
Dhalsim tells Ryu and Ken that they must think of the inside of the cave of ancients as a mirror, which reflects the spirit of whoever enters into it. Ryu asks if it's like a dream, but Dhalsim says not a dream -a mirror. He tells them to remember that peering into the depths of one's own heart can be a terrifying thing. Ryu and Ken enter the cave.
They see the treasure, and move in closer to it. They take a look around the room.
They then look at the treasure again, and something happens. They can both see a temple, and they move closer to it.
But when the doors to the temple open, water goes everywhere. Ryu and Ken suddenly find themselves flying, and wonder where they are. They then see themselves down below, and Ryu thinks this must be astral projection. He says that their spirits have left their bodies, and are now floating free. Ken says he's never had an out of body experience before.
They then see a large rock up ahead, and they can feel it trying to draw them closer. They suddenly speed up, and can't stop themselves from smashing into it! There is an explosion...
...but they both survive it unharmed. However, they are now separated, and can't see each other any more. Ryu then sees a bright flash of light.
The light dims down, and a large, living statue has appeared. Ryu thinks this must be the monster, and tells it that it may have killed the others in this shrine, but that's the end of it! He takes his stance. The statue runs towards him.
Meanwhile, Ken is under attack from another statue. He says no more mister nice guy, and attacks.
Ryu avoids a kick from his opponent, but then gets hit several times. He tells the statue that it moves fast for being so large, but he can still hit hard.
He lands several hits on the statue. Meanwhile, Ken continues to fight. Outside, Dhalsim says they must stop now, or the hell of combat will swallow them forever, and none of them will get out of this alive.
He tells the beasts to not forget the cave is but a mirror which reflects their inner most spirit. Ryu can hear Dhalsim, but asks if this can wait. Ken has also heard Dhalsim's words, but says he'd kind of in the middle of something here! He thinks he's in for the fight of his life, and goes on the attack again.
Dhalsim says that the beasts have fallen before the guardian. Ryu resumes fighting, but none of his moves connect, and he ends us being on the receiving end of an uppercut.
Ken takes several hits from his opponent. Ryu manages to land several attacks, but his opponent doesn't back down, and hits him back.
Ryu says he can barely stand up now, and his opponent is not only fast, but has moves too... it's almost like Ken! Ryu gets up again, and resumes fighting.
Ken gets knocked back after being hit by an elbow smash. Ken thinks that just cracked a couple of his ribs, even after he wasted him with that kick. He's never seen anyone fight with this determination... except Ryu. Ryu tells his opponent they're going down, and lands several more strikes.
Ken also doesn't give up, and also fights with everything he's got. But Ryu and Ken both then get knocked down.
The two recall what Dhalsim told them, about thinking of the inside of the cave of ancients as a mirror, which reflects the spirit of those who enter into it. Ken says all Dhalsim ever does it talk in riddles. As he tries to gets up, he notices that his opponent isn't coming over to finish him off.
Ryu also can't seem to get up, and has gone blind in his left eye. He sees his opponent, and wonders why they aren't moving in for the kill. Ken thinks about this cave being a mirror.
Ryu wonders if this monster is some kind of an illusion. Ken thinks he's been too busy trying to stop this monster to think about what Dhalsim said. He wonders where Ryu is. Ryu also realizes that he came in here with Ken, but where is he now? They walked in together, but now it seems like a dream.
He knows his injuries are real, and thinks again about what Dhalsim said. He realizes Dhalsim was right, and forcibly moves his own legs. He goes into a stance. Meanwhile, Ken notices that his opponent has gone into a stance, and thinks this is some kind of trick. He thinks if he strikes now, he could take him, but then thinks this could be a trap -why has he suddenly stopped attacking him? It almost looks like he's meditating, and then sees that it looks like he's sitting the same way Dhalsim did when they first met him. Ken then realizes something.
Ken realizes his opponent was actually Ryu, and calls out his name. There's an explosion, and as the smoke clears...
...Ken sees Ryu. The two get the treasure, and then start to walk out of the cave. Ryu says that anyone who enters this place is forced to confront the worst side of their own soul. Ken says if you don't recognize it for what it is, you end up going off the deep end, maybe killing someone. Ryu says they almost went past the point of no return. Ken says that Dhalsim was testing them, he knew what he was sending them into. Ken thanks Ryu for figuring what was up, but Ryu says they got lucky -it was a good thing they scored those knock outs on each other, as they stunned them enough to get them thinking straight.
The two then fall down. Ryu suggests they don't move for a while, as he believes Ken must have some broken ribs. Ken says he has at least two or three. Ryu tells him to take it easy, as one of his lungs may end up being punctured by a broken bone. Ken says he'll try to watch it, but then asks Ryu about his vision. Ryu says he can't see out of his left eye, and Ken says it looks damaged. Ryu says it ought to be, after all those powerful kicks. He jokes that if he goes blind, Ken will have to tell him when to throw a punch.
Ken says he guesses they were lucky to stun each other like that, as if they hadn't, one of them would be dead by now, and the other would be a killer -just because they were too hot headed to think it over. Ryu says like beasts, and Ken says it was just as Dhalsim said. The two finally make it out of the cave, and reveal that they have the treasure.
Dhalsim says they have proven themselves worthy. The treasure hunter then puts his gun in Ryu's face, and says they talk too much. He's impressed they found the treasure, and tells them to hand it over if they want their lives spared. Ken gives him the treasure.
However, the guy then says they've outlived their usefulness. A couple of foreigners who can ID him could be big trouble down the road. Ken tells him the agreement was they'd leave peacefully if they got them what they wanted. The hunter says they'll do that, but first he wants to make sure the two of them are out of his hair. He mocks them by asking if they think they can defeat him in their condition. But before he can fire, Dhalsim suddenly appears. He reveals he's taken the ammunition clip from the guy's gun, and tells him his gun is useless without this.
The treasure hunter tells the guide to start shooting, but he is frozen in place. Dhalsim says the guy hears, but can't obey. He says he's stopped the flow of ki in his body. He then strikes points on the treasure hunter, and tells him to taste the terror of total paralysis.
Dhalsim uses his powers to heal Ryu, and this lets him see out of his left eye again. He also heals Ken, repairing the damage done to his ribs.
Dhalsim says this healing is only temporary, they'll have to return to his shrine to give them a more permanent treatment. He then asks Mhenu to put the treasure back where it belongs. Mhenu takes it, and heads into the cave of ancients.
Ryu asks if Mhenu will be alright going into the cave. Dhalsim says that to one that is innocent of heart, the cave is nothing more than a place of wonder. He then tells Ryu and Ken to follow him. Ken says he guesses they made the grade. Ryu says maybe they aren't the worst beasts in the world after all... and mastering hadou ki may just be the discipline they've been needing.
At last, Dhalsim begins leading Ryu down the path to understanding hadou, and from there, the legendary attack form known as hadou ken. But what powers will this awaken within Ryu? Watch, as a legend is born in the next episode of Street Fighter II V: The Legend of the Hadou Ken - All Creation, Source of the Energy. Gonna burn some muscle!
