The team investigate a subway where the Black Dragon are meant to be. Sonya and Sub-Zero are attacked, but when Sonya is about to be hit by a fireball, she is saved by Kabal. Kabal is a former member of the Black Dragon who now fights against them. The rest of the team eventually locate Sonya, but Kabal disappears.

Back at the base, Rayden explains that Kabal was a ruthless Black Dragon assassin. But Shao Kahn learnt that Kabal would one day reform and become one of the chosen. So he had his warriors attack Kabal. Kabal managed to escape, but his face was disfigured and he now relies on a respirator. Nightwolf then picks up more strange energy readings from the subway, so the team fly back there. They find evidence that the Black Dragon are around, but then a new portal opens up in the subway, destroying one of the dragon jets.

Hideyoshi, Shao Kahn's deadliest assassin, steps out of the portal. He attacks the team, but Kabal then appears and defeats him, causing him to go back through the portal. Kabal takes them team to a safe place and tells Sonya that his redemption must be born of his own crimes, he is fated to fight the Black Dragon here. Sonya asks him if he ever gets lonely, but he tells her the world above is repelled by what it does not understand. Nightwolf then says he's detected more power surges, more powerful than the last ones. Kabal volunteers himself to go to the Black Dragon's base, stating there are many gang members and having a single person slip in undetected would be the best plan. He manages to get into the base and sets up a bomb, but Kano appears and deactivates it.

The rest of the team then arrive and fight the Black Dragon, knocking them through the new portal. Stryker then seals the portal up, but Kano has managed to get away. Kabal reactivates the bomb and escapes with the rest of the team, as Kano contacts them and says they've won again -for the moment. Back at the base, Kabal says the time isn't right for him to join them yet, but Sonya has given him hope others might see past his appearance. But he knows he must find a new home and renew his battle against the Black Dragon and Shao Kahn's legions of darkness. He tells Sonya that he must do this alone.

Notes

-The animation style in this episode is different (and worse) than any of the others, and comes off as been more cartoony. Facial expressions get really exaggerated at times.

-Hideyoshi is a new character created for this series, and has not appeared in any of the Mortal Kombat games.

Errors

-Sub-Zero's leg is skin colored during this shot.
-Kitana's hair overlaps Liu when she stands up in the dragon jet.
-When the team run towards the portal, Kitana overlaps Stryker.
