Despite the fact that Final Fight was 4 years old by 1993, SEGA decided they needed to bring it back. However, rather than release it for the SEGA Genesis, they chose to create a version for their SEGA CD hardware. Final Fight CD was one of the earliest games available for the system, and is also one of the best. As with many Capcom ports, this one was developed by SEGA themselves. The result is a game far superior to almost all other versions of the game available at the time.
Final Fight CD features all of the characters and levels from the arcade version, along with a new, awesome sound track. In addition to the main game, a new time attack mode was added, which lets you try and defeat as many opponents as possible within a time limit. Each character has a new, small stage exclusive to this version of the game. The intro sequence was changed, as was the ending, with both sequences featuring voice acting and altered scenes.
It isn't all good news though. The colors for Final Fight CD are very grainy, and the Super Nintendo version actually looks better color wise. There is also a problem with insane flickering in the Bay Area level -there are a couple of points where groups of enemies will simply be invisible until you defeat enough of them. Another major change is that the attacking speed of Guy, Cody and Haggar was slowed down slightly -in one way this is a good thing, as it makes the infinite combo glitch harder to do. But in other ways it makes the game more difficult, as things you'd be able to react to in time in the arcade version you might not be able to do here. The English voice acting is also bad, and some people may not like the fact that you only have 3 credits to beat the game with.
But most of these faults are relatively minor, and Final Fight CD is still a fantastic version of the game. The problem was that it was on the SEGA CD -a system which didn't sell very well, so not many people got the chance to play this version. This was rectified in 2022, as it was included on the SEGA Genesis Mini 2. And now for some extra features:
