Prototype
Final
At the map screen, the proto has an image of a ship in the sea. This seems to be a leftover from the original version, which did feature a round set on a boat. For the final, the image was changed to some large pipes and some orange capped structures. This was a strange choice as the level itself does not look like this in the final. There was, however, a level like this in the original version.

Prototype
Final
The colors of the sea, background and sky are duller in the proto. The final makes things brighter.

Prototype
Final
The enemies in the prototype ride on vehicles which look a lot like the speeder bikes from the 1983 movie Return of the Jedi. For the final these were changed to look nothing like them. In the proto, these enemies launch black mines at you, for the final, the mines are red.

Prototype
Final
The mines have different colors in the prototype, and I think they look better than what they look like in the final. Joe also has some animation frames in the proto that were cut from the final, such as him putting his arm on the front of the board (hold left whilst jumping).

Prototype
Final
This section goes on for longer in the prototype, with more mines and enemies. There are also no items at all throughout the stage. In the final, this section is shorter, but a sub-boss was added -a small robot.

Prototype
Final
The prototype has duller colors, and the background is slightly different -check some of the buildings. The way the lights flash is more noticeable in the prototype, and there are also more of them compared to the final.

Prototype
Final
A bomb here in the proto was replaced with a small life item in the final.

Prototype
Final
The sorcerer enemies change their stances when they attack in the proto, something they don't do in the final. Their colors are also different.

Prototype
Final
This bomb in the proto became a large shuriken item in the final.

Prototype
Final
A steam vent in the proto was removed from the final.

Prototype
Final
The stage is different at this point between versions -in the proto, there is a long pipe you need to grab into to move across. This isn't in the final, which instead has a section with some smaller pipes you need to use to move upwards, then back down.

Prototype
Final
The flying ninjas have yellow and blue outfits in the proto. For the final, they have brown and purple outfits. The contents of the boxes are also different -one of them has a bomb in the proto, for the final, this was changed to a small life item.

Prototype
Final
Some item changes between versions. The pipes to the left are also different.

Prototype
Final
There is a broken pipe in the prototype which was fixed up for the final.

Prototype
Final
A small shuriken item in the proto became a large one for the final.

Prototype
Final
This small life item in the proto became a ninjitsu item for the final.

Prototype
Final
Finally this bomb in the proto became a power up item for the final.

Prototype
Final
The boss has a slightly different sprite in the proto, and this fight does not fully work yet -it is very glitchy. This form of the boss also has a pink laser attack. When it uses this in the proto, the background will become glitched, making the buildings white. This does not happen in the final.

Prototype
Final
The shots this boss fires are also slightly different between versions.

Prototype
Final
In the proto, you can only hit the boss by shooting at the larger laser cannon, but to do that, you'll need to use player 2's pad to position the boss upwards. This was changed for the final so you can hit the boss anywhere. When you defeat the first form, the prototype just has a few explosions, whilst the final has many.

Prototype
Final
The second form of the boss has a larger sprite in the proto. However, the biggest difference with this boss is that the proto version of it cannot be defeated, whilst obviously the final can.
