Synopsis

Kurama has been injured, but is able to go on. Kuwabara says he'll take on the next of the Spirit Beasts, and reveals that he can now summon his spirit sword from his own hand, and can also extend it and shrink it at will. Botan contacts Yusuke and says she found lot of the bugs surrounding a kindergarten. If one of the bugs forced itself into a child, the child's life would be at risk. She is then attacked by an adult who has been taken over by a bug, but she manages to knock him out.

Yusuke's group hear a loud roar, which is so powerful it causes the castle to shake. They rush out and come across Byakko, who considers the humans to be nothing but fodder to him. Despite initially quaking at Byakko's huge size, Kuwabara refuses to back down, and challenges him to a one on one fight. Byakko laughs him off and creates four beasts, which he sets on Kuwabara. Kuwabara tries to fight them with his sword, but they are too quick for him, and he starts taking hits.

However he eventually manages to defeat them by getting them to follow him down a narrow path, before plunging his extended spirit sword through them all. They aren't finished yet through and resume chasing him, but he leads them round a tower and connects the two ends of his sword to trap them. He then goes back to Byakko, and Byakko decides to personally kill him. The fight begins and Kuwabara slices Byakko a few times, but to no effect. However be begins to tire out, as he and the others work out that Byakko is able to suck Kuwabara's energy, and take it for himself. Byakko grows even larger and despite Yusuke warning him not to, Kuwabara makes a desperate charge towards his opponent...

Manga differences

-In the manga, Kuwabara does not break part of the ceiling with his extended spirit sword like he does in the anime.

-Any scenes with Koenma in this episode weren't in the manga.

-Byakko's anime design is slightly different -he doesn't have a pair of belts, whilst his manga design does.

-The dialogue where Hiei calls Kuwabara a simpleton and Kuwabara wanting to fight him isn't in the manga.

-Byakko does not destroy the tower (and the beasts along with it) in the manga.

Notes

-This episode marks the first time Byakko is fully seen in an episode, despite being in the intro -he's the guy seen chasing after Botan and Keiko. Spoiler alert: he never encounters them within an actual episode. He also has a slightly different appearance in the intro then he does in the episodes, as his clothes have different colors and he also has a rope belt.
