There are two scripts available for this episode, and they can both be read at the Sunbow and Marvel Productions Script/Storyboard Archive. The original script was written by Antoni Zalewski on 1/31/85. There is a circle note on the script saying this was then revised on 2/1/85. There is then also a revised script, with dialogue updates from Ron Friedman which was done on 2/9/85.

Some of the revised dialogue is what's used in the episode, but quite a bit of it was further changed later. In some cases, the revised script's changes were ignored, and the original script's dialogue was used.

This line was cut.

The script states for Buzzsaw to be sent out here, but the animators colored the tape like Laserbeak my mistake. The animators also changed the order so Frenzy is sent out first, then Ravage, then Rumble.

The script wanted Frenzy and Ravage to fire off bombs here, but the animators had everyone fire the usual lasers (later on Ravage is seen firing bombs).

Autobots... transform!

Whilst the script didn't state for Laserbeak to be sent out by Soundwave, Laserbeak is mentioned here and is seen in the episode -but Buzzsaw isn't. Ironhide's added line here was cut.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This shot of Inferno outside the bunker entrance was cut, along with his line here.

The script suggests the beam Inferno fires at the Negavator would come from his arm, but the animators drew it being shot from his head.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT

EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED
I'm fine! It's just an electro-glitch which comes and goes, comes and goes...

OPTIMUS
Alright, Red... but get ready to return to Autobot headquarters. It's too dangerous to remain here.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED
Too dangerous, huh? Now Optimus wants me out of the way too! It's a plot!

This line was cut. Instead, Red Alert screams.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

OPTIMUS
You too, Red...

If you've wondered why Prime's transformation sequence has this red haze over him, it is in the script -it's meant to show Red Alert's point of view. However, Prime's "let's go" line wasn't distorted or made to echo, as the script wanted. He also transforms at his usual speed.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

MEGATRON

STARSCREAM
Allow me, Megatron...

ORIGINAL SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED (VO)
Noise? What noise? All clear!

This line was cut.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

MEGATRON
Crush them!

In the episode, Prime manages to say "transform", but the main difference is this is where the first act ends. In the scripts, the first act doesn't end just yet.

ACT 2

The revised script added a line for Red Alert to say here, but it's not heard in the episode.

SCRIPTS
EPISODE DIALOGUE
HOIST
We have to save Optimus and Ironhide!

Grapple's line here was cut, and this sequence was changed so there are no explosions. Grapple and Hoist roll up, and Prime's arm is already poking out of the rubble. Grapple and Hoist both start moving boulders away, whilst the script wanted Hoist to move boulders away on his trailer.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This was where the first act was meant to end, according to the scripts. Megatron's line was changed to "The Negavator is mine!", and he doesn't laugh.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

Megatron's line here was cut.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

THRUST (VO)
The smoke is sticking to us! I can't see!

STARSCREAM (VO)
Stop whining and use your radar!

In the episode, it doesn't appear to be Thrust's regular voice actor (Ed Gilbert) providing his line here. It sounds more like Jack Angel saying it to me.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

SMOKESCREEN
Yeah, go ahead and try!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

THRUST (VO)
Hey! My circuits electric blew just out!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

STARSCREAM (VO)
Away move , before collide we...

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

In the episode, this sequence was altered so Starscream is never shown to fire a freeze beam. His line mentioning it was also cut, and the smoke just comes off by itself. Ramjet isn't shown to fly alongside Starscream either.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

EPISODE DIALOGUE

EPISODE DIALOGUE

OPTIMUS
Hmm, you're more damaged that I thought.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED ALERT
There's nothing wrong with me!

In the episode, the red filter is missing and Prime's line is fully heard, although it was changed:

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

OPTIMUS PRIME
Red Alert needs a complete overhaul.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

HOIST
Your logic and reason circuits are fried.

INFERNO
You need immediate repairs!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED ALERT
Don't give me any of that! You just want to disassemble me for spare parts! Never! I won't let you!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

INFERNO (VO)
Wait!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

OPTIMUS
Quickly --we must rescue him before he makes his condition worse!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

STARSCREAM
Megatron will regret abandoning me!

This line was cut.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

IRONHIDE
Aw, c'mon Red 'ol buddy!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

OPTIMUS PRIME (VO)
There...

This line, which was added onto the revised script, isn't heard in the episode.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

OPTIMUS (VO)
Catch him!

Here's another line that was added onto the revised script, but cut from the episode.

SCRIPTS
EPISODE DIALOGUE
PRIME (VO)

HOIST (VO)
Oh, no!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

What's the matter? Can't you transform?

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

FIRE CHIEF (VO)
Hey! That's my car!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

FIRE CHIEF (CONT)
Put it back where you found it!

The revised script's added note about Ironhide patting the fire chief's car was ignored by the animators.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

IRONHIDE
Aw, sorry chief! It looked like a friend of mine!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

FIRE CHIEF
No two ways about it -I gotta take that vacation!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

HOIST (VO)
He gave us the slip.

PRIME (VO)
For his sake, I just hope we find him.

In the episode, Red Alert only gasps here, this line isn't said.

SCRIPTS
EPISODE DIALOGUE
STARSCREAM (CONT-VO)
You can hide in here!

In the episode you can't hear any water dripping here, and the added line was cut.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED ALERT
It's you!

ACT 3

Red Alert has a line here which isn't in the scripts: "You are... the enemy!"

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

EPISODE DIALOGUE

STARSCREAM
Am I? I could have blasted you in the back! We need each other!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED ALERT
I'll never join the Decepticons!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

STARSCEAM
So? Who's asking you to?

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This sequence was trimmed in the episode so the Autobots area already in their robot modes -there's no animation of them transforming. Ironhide's line was also cut.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

HOIST
But Red's circuits will explode if we don't repair him soon!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

OPTIMUS
We have no choice...

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

EPISODE DIALOGUE

OPTIMUS
Our energy level's too low to withstand another attack out here!

In the episode, Ironhide isn't seen looking around before transforming here.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

STARSCREAM
I know exactly how you feel. Megatron and the other Decepticons envy my superiority, too!

RED
That's why Megatron left you behind?

STARSCREAM
Yes. He's afraid I'd make a better leader.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED
Maybe that's why the Autobots are jealous of me!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

STARSCREAM
If we had control of the Negavator, Optimus and Megatron would be forced to admit our superiority!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

In the episode, these two lines were combined into one: "I'll feel safer when the Negavator's on level nine..."

Hoist's line here was cut.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This line was also cut. It was scripted for Hoist to say it after the bars come down behind him.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

SCRIPTS
EPISODE DIALOGUE
STARSCREAM
We'll never reach the Negavator as this rate!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED
This will speed us up!

STARSCREAM
Perfect! How did you know about it?

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED
As security director, I know all the secret entrances!

SCRIPTS
EPISODE DIALOGUE
RED ALERT (CONT-VO)
Prime should have considered that, before he betrayed me!

In the episode, Starscream says "Yes, he should have" as the camera pulls back here -this line wasn't in the scripts. Whilst the script wanted a sensor on Ravage's head to flash, the animators had his eyes flash instead.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

THRUST
Just give the order. Megatron and I'll weld that traitor to the wall!

This line appears to have been messed up in editing, or Ed Gilbert didn't say it quite right.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RAMJET
You so brave now, too bad your courage does not hold up under fire!

This line, which was added onto the revised script, isn't heard in the episode. It was meant to be a response to Ramjet's "under fire" line.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

EPISODE DIALOGUE

MEGATRON
Silence! We'll let them do the dirty work. Then we'll seize the reward!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

ORIGINAL SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED
No! The alarms!

STARSCREAM
I'll worry about them later!

Starscream can be heard yelling as he falls down the shaft, which wasn't in the scripts.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

STARSCREAM
Ahhh! Get off me, you...

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

IRONHIDE
Intruders on level nine? No way!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

RED ALERT
They changed the combination! They never trusted me!

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

STARSCREAM
I don't blame them! Now we'll never get it out!

RED (VO)
Yes we will!

In the episode, the Negavator's shot causes the door to explode, rather than blink out. This happens throughout the rest of the episode -the script states the shots should make things blink out (as seen at the start of the episode) but for unknown reasons the animators made everything explode when they get hit by its beam.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

INFERNO
And Starscream is dust!
