Sonya does a back flip to avoid Mileena's attack. Sonya confuses her opponent for Kitana, but Mileena quickly makes it clear she's not her, and resumes her attack.

Mileena tries to use her sais to stab Sonya, but eventually gets disarmed. Sonya kicks Mileena in the face, and the fight continues. But when Mileena tries a kick, Sonya grabs her leg, and slams her to the ground.

Mileena gets up, but Sonya kicks her several times, and finishes her off with a kick to the head, followed by a throw. The dragon tattoo on the back of Mileena comes to life, but then vanishes. As this is happening, the dragon statue behind Sonya comes to life!

Before it can do anything, Jax comes back, and starts punching it over and over again. He hits it on the head with a powerful strike, and it gets sucked back into the ground.

Jax says he'd told her these arms would be good for something. Sonya says she owes him one. He says he doesn't know how much longer he can take all this whacked-out junk, but thinks she does look good in mud. Sonya wants to find a river, but they then see another extermination squad dropping in, so they run off.

Meanwhile, Rayden has arrived at the temple of the elder gods. He goes inside it and says he's come because their sacred rules have been broken: Shao Kahn has invaded the Earth. The gods of wind, fire and water appear, and Rayden is told he is granted three questions.

Rayden's first question is why was this treachery ever allowed? The gods say that they don't control the destiny of man, and everyone possesses the ability to change their fate.

Rayden wonders if this means they will standby and watch the ruination of Earth. The wind god tells him he is correct in believing that Kitana is the key to closing Kahn's portals. Rayden says if he reunites Kitana with Sindel, how can he be sure that Kahn's portals will stay closed until the next tournament?

The water god says that only when Shao Kahn is destroyed will the future be safe. The wind god asks Rayden if, after living among the humans, does he truly believe they're worth saving? Rayden tells them more than anything he knows. The water god asks him if he loves them enough to sacrifice his immortality, and Rayden prepares to give an answer...

Meanwhile, Sonya and Jax arrive at some temples, but Jax wonders which one is the temple of the elder gods. Jax is then attacked by Jade, but Liu appears and calms things down. Sonya asks where Kitana is, and Liu says she has been kidnapped by Scorpion. Sonya is annoyed Liu has lost Kitana, and picked up Jade.

Liu starts to explain she helped him get here, but they then see an extermination squad heading towards them, led by Shao Kahn and Sindel. Liu blames this on Sonya and Jax, but Jax says they'd better focus on staying alive. Liu leads everyone on, but he can't find Rayden. Jax questions how they're supposed to wait here and wait for Rayden to show, but Liu says without Rayden, it's hopeless.

Rayden suddenly appears, and says to never give up hope, at least not so early in the fight. He says this is a new look, and notices Jade -he hopes she can fight as good as she looks. He was expecting a team of fighters, but instead he heard fighters at war with each other. Sonya tells him to give them a break, as they've been through hell.

Rayden warns that compared to what lies ahead, they've been through nothing. He asks where Kitana is, but Liu says Kahn took her, and it's all his fault. Rayden says this isn't about blame, as they're together in this. Each of them must help and support the others, like a family. He then asks Jax what the deal with his arms is. Jax says he's known him one minute, and he's already dissing him! Rayden tells him he means no disrespect, but he has real skills, and those arms are not his strength, they're his weakness. Jax thanks him for the tip, but his arms are state of the art. Rayden tells him faith in himself is all he needs, and he says that to all of them.

They then see Kahn's group getting closer, so Rayden says he'll try and open a portal to Outworld whilst he still can. They head towards a temple, and then stop. Rayden tries to open the portal, but seems to struggle to do it, and says his powers are leaving him. Kahn sees the group in the distance.

Kahn tells Sindel to destroy everything. She screams, and the noise create a shockwave which starts to blow apart the temples. But Rayden creates the portal, and tells the others to come on.

They head into the portal, as the temple shatters seconds later. Sindel says that was fun, whilst Kahn says they've taken the bait, and fallen right into their trap. He says they'll proceed as planned, and tells Sindel he'll wait her arrival in Outworld. Meanwhile, Rayden's group enter Outworld. Jax says his skin feels like it's burning up, but he's freezing inside. Rayden tells him he'll get used to it. Liu then notices something nearby.

It's the Golden Gate Bridge, and Rayden says this is because the realms are merging. This will continue to happen unless Kahn's portals are closed, and time is against them. Jade says they have to stop this, and to do that, they must rescue Kitana. She knows that Kahn took Kitana back to his fortress.

Jax does not like the idea of checking out Kahn's crib, and Sonya agrees, saying that that's what Kahn would want them to do. Jade says there is a secret passageway, the same one she used to escape. As she and Liu head off, the rest of the group follows them towards Kahn's fortress.

At the fortress, Shinnok asks his son how he could believe the ruination of the elder's temple wouldn't put their plan in jeopardy. Kahn says it was necessary to convince the mortals that their only hope lies in Outworld. Shinnok thinks his son is confident that Rayden will capture Sindel. Kahn promises on his own soul that all of the millenniums of planning will be rewarded, and he will be proud. Shinnok tells him he'll take his soul himself if he fails him now. Kahn says he will rally the extermination squads, and prepare... for victory! He tells Kitana that the merger will soon be complete, and all of her friends will be dead.

Liu says the place they're at now must have been Edenia, the royal family's temple -Kitana had told him he'd find it here. Sindel suddenly appears and screams, whilst three ninjas also make themselves visible.

Rayden thinks this could be a blessing in disguise, as they need Sindel to close Kahn's portals forever. He says he'll take care of her, whilst Liu says he'll rescue Kitana. Sindel lets out a scream which blasts Rayden through a wall.

As he gets up, the ninjas go after him, and he starts fighting them. After taking one down with spinning kick, he fights the other one.

He hits his opponent with an uppercut that's so powerful that he gets sent crashing into the ceiling, before dropping down dead.

Outside, Sindel has also been defeated, and Jax says something finally went right for a change. Rayden asks who finished off Sindel, and Jade says she surprised her from behind. Jax thinks she came in handy after all.

Outside, Kahn tells his forces that they are shall witness the dawning of mankind's final day -the two realms will be one! He shouts that Rayden and his mortals have fallen for his trick, and failed to stop them. He orders his forces to go and bring Rayden and his pathetic mortals to bow at his feet, so with their dying breaths they can witness the birth of the greatest army in existence! Shinnok is finally pleased with his son. Meanwhile, Liu infiltrates Kahn's fortress.

He quickly finds Kitana, but before he can save her, someone swings across the room, and nearly slices his head off! Kitana says it's a trap, and tells Liu to leave, but the attacker gets ready to attack again.

He removes his cloak, revealing that he's Baraka, leader of the Tarkatans. He starts fighting Liu, and attacks with blades in his arms. Liu knocks him out with a kick to the face, but then some more Tarkatan warriors arrive.

Liu swings between them, and then kicks one down. The other one gets onto Kitana's cage, so Liu swings over to it and starts fighting him.

Liu hits him with a kick, and he falls into a fire pit. Liu opens up the cage and reunites with Kitana.

Sheeva then walks in, and says the date's over. As she runs forward, Kitana and Liu swing out and Liu throws a blade at one of the chains. It cuts through it, sending the cage falling down...

...and landing on Sheeva, crushing her. Liu and Kitana leave the fortress, and meet up with Rayden and the others. Rayden tells Kitana that only her love can reunite Sindel's body and soul. Her love can break the hold Kahn has over her mother, and close his portals to Earth.

Kitana takes her mother's hand, and then kisses her. Sindel wakes up, and recognizes Kitana. Kitana says she's prayed for the day when their love will bring them together again.

Sindel then starts laughing, and gets up. She says she's never loved Kitana, with such a pathetic child as her, what reason was there for her to love? Kitana says she knew this could not be true. Rayden says this cannot be, but Sindel says it can, and it is. She calls Rayden powerless, and then whips him with her hair.

Jade tells the fools that it's over, as they've been tricked. Sindel says Kahn's portals stay open. Jade says the merger is nearly complete, but Liu wants to know how she can do this to them. Jade says it was so easy, so Liu tells her she'll die for this.

Sindel starts spinning around, and then disappears in a flash of light. As she's doing this, Jade sneaks off without anyone seeing her. Jax thinks Rayden has taken them on a wild goose chase, and Liu doesn't understand how this didn't work -Rayden has been advised by the elder gods! Rayden thinks the elder gods must have lied to him.

Jax says to forget the gods, immortals and all that junk. He thinks the only ones they can trust from here on out are humans and nobody else, not even Rayden. Kitana tells him that by leading them here, Rayden is also mortal now, and has sacrificed all his powers. Sonya thinks that's even worse, how do they stop Kahn now? Rayden says there's more to this than Kahn, as if Sindel is not the key to closing Kahn's portals, then Kahn has a higher allegiance.

Sonya then sees the mark on Rayden's back, and says she's seen that tattoo before. It was on a robot and a woman, and they both tried to kill her. Jax says both of them worked for Kahn. Rayden says the tattoo is a family crest, bestowed only to his bloodline. It's a permanent mark that allows safe passage through the portals for the bearer and his passengers. He asks if the tattoos they saw flee the fighter upon death, and Jax says they took off like a bat out of hell. Rayden explains those were temporary passes, so the bearers did not share his bloodline. Sonya wonders if it's Rayden's family crest, how can Kahn's side have it too?

Rayden says his father is an elder god, and only they can bestow such a marking. Sonya thinks it's funny how he's failed to mention this before. Jax thinks that if Rayden's father is an elder god, what does that make Kahn? Rayden tells them that Shao Kahn is his brother!
