A portal opens up in Iceland, so the team are sent there to fight an invading army of Cybers. However, this has been foreseen by sorcerer Quan Chi, who heads to the realm of Zaterra to retrieve what he wants: the Gem of Tetsurri. He then heads back to the Earthrealm. The team are informed of another portal, this time appearing in the Peruvian rainforest. They head there and see someone coming out of it.

Quan Chi, disguised as a boy, appears and shows everyone the gem. He then leaves back through the portal, which closes behind him. The team begin to hate each other, and when Rayden realizes what's happened, he tells them about the gem. He informs them that things are only going to get worse, they must destroy the gem before they kill each other. Kitana realizes that the boy is someone she knows: Quan Chi. Rayden says Quan Chi will have to return the gem to where he got it from to prevent it from destroying himself. He tells the team they must remember to reach deep into their souls and find the honor they feel for one another. The team head to Zaterra. With Nightwolf not exposed to the gem, he and Kiva track down the place where it is, whilst the rest of the team are on the verge of fighting each other.

The team head into a cave and find the gem, but Quan Chi appears and says only the strongest can destroy it, and asks which one of them that is. Most of the team begin fighting among themselves, but upon realizing that Nightwolf hasn't been effected, Quan Chi fights him. Nightwolf tells everyone to remember what Rayden said, which causes Kitana to snap out of it and help. Quan Chi creates an energy sphere and merges with it, becoming a giant snake. The team fight the snake form of Quan Chi and defeat it, causing the sorcerer to return to normal.

Nightwolf shatters the gem, causing Quan Chi to yell out and vanish in a plume of smoke. The team head back to the Earthrealm, where Rayden congratulates them all on overcoming the darkest regions of their souls merely by finding their connections to each other. Kitana says they've learned there is nothing they cannot accomplish when they honor each other and work as one. Rayden says with luck, it won't take more than a month or so to get all the apologies out, as they were brutal to each other.
