Toki later decides to return to the last village he was at, and set up a permanent residence there. He is also reunited with Sara. The two talk and Sara mentions that many of the villagers here are worried that he might leave them again. The Holy Emperor, Souther, has been defeated, but Raoh and his forces are still at large, and there are still many other gangs out there who would happily attack this village again and again. As long as Toki is here, however, they are safe.

But Toki says that the reason he came back here was to say goodbye. He and Raoh watched Kenshiro defeat Souther by himself. Raoh told him that whilst Souther, potentially his greatest threat, has died, he cannot obtain total supremacy with both him and Kenshiro still around. He must defeat them both. Toki tells her that he has a promise that he made with Raoh which he must fulfill, and now is the time. Sara realises that Toki must intend to fight Raoh and doesn't think he's serious, but he asks her for some help.

Later on that night Toki says that she has a good knowledge of the pressure points, so she must know what he is about to do. He is about to press the pressure point "Sekkatsukou" on his own body. It is the only way he can defeat Raoh, but pressing this point will shorten his life and there is even a possibility of him dying from hitting it. Even so, he tells Sara to tie him to one of the pillars as he might not be able to bear the pain, and could go on a crazed rampage.

Sara does what she is asked and tells Toki that he taught her the true value of life in this desperate world. She refuses to say goodbye to him here, as she thinks he will return. Toki just says that his soul will burn on within her and Kenshiro. He then looks up at the stars and sees the big dipper in the night sky, along with the red Hosei -the star of death. Anyone who can see it is meant to die within a year, but Toki ignores it for now and instead strikes the pressure points on his legs.

He is put into a great amount of pain, but he looks up at the stars again and screams out for the heavens to spare him some of their strength, even if just for a short amount of time. As Toki continues to scream, the star of death stops shining.

And finally back to where this story began, we see Toki fighting against his brother, Raoh. Kenshiro is watching with Bat and Lin, and says that it is like their natures are fighting each other, with Raoh's violence battling Toki's peace. Lin asks if Ken could stop them as they are brothers, but he says that their destiny is boiling within the blood they share, and that he won't stand in their way now.

Raoh and Toki continue their battle and after a brief exchange of attacks, Raoh says that even though Toki is ill, he has become much stronger and improved on his techniques greatly. Toki tells him that it isn't his impending death that has made him stronger, but Raoh's very existence...

A very long time a go when Toki was just a boy, some punk with a bow and arrow was beating him up. This man had killed Toki's pet puppy and was laughing at that fact, when Toki suddenly surprises him by kicking him in the face and smashing some of his teeth out.

The punk gets floored and Toki proceeds to punch him in the face repeatedly, until Ryuken and Raoh come over. Ryuken sees that Toki must have been watching them practice in the dojo to pick up moves like that, and he asks him if he also wants to learn Hokuto Shinken. Toki says that he does, and doesn't care about the fact that there can only be one successor. Either he or his brother will have to seal away the fists of the other one day. Ryuken leaves as Raoh asks Toki why he wants to learn the style. Toki tells him that he wants to become stronger than his brother.

Back in the present, Toki says that he will surpass Raoh now and uses a technique that lets him warp forward at a tremendous speed, he's that fast that he even takes Raoh by surprise. Before Raoh can react, he strikes his brother in his chest multiple times. Bat and Lin think he's won as he hit Raoh's pressure points, but Ken tells them it isn't over yet.

Raoh laughs and says that Toki's weak fists cannot hurt him. His body heals from all the hits he just took within seconds. Toki isn't going to give up just like that though and avoids one of Raoh's attacks and goes to strike him from the air...but Raoh instantly kicks him away! Kenshiro notes that Roah just used "Musou Insatsu"...a technique that allowed Raoh to predict what Toki was going to do and counter it subconsciously.

Kenshiro tells Bat and Lin that Toki uses "Juu no Ken" (Fist of Gentleness), which will not be enough to break Raoh's "Gou no Ken" (Fist of Strength). Raoh declares that he has foreseen the outcome of this fight and because Toki never used the Gou no Ken style, he would never be able to surpass him. He leaps up into the air and strikes his brother, only to see that his attack has been blocked! The power of the attack causes the land around them to crumble, but more importantly, Toki is using the Gou no Ken!

Toki tells Raoh that he has always aimed to be stronger than him, so he also learnt the Gou no Ken style. He strikes at his brother and makes him fall to his knees.

Toki says that he learnt Gou no Ken, but decided to keep it a secret until the day of their final battle came. Toki then points to the stars and tells his brother to look -can he see the star of death next to the big dipper?

The answer to that is...he can! Kenshiro explains to Lin and Bat that it is said that when two masters of Hokuto fight, both of them will be able to see that star as even the heavens don't know who is going to win. Raoh laughs and gets back up.

He tells Toki that if he really thinks he can beat him, then he should do so now. Toki says he'll use a secret technique to defeat his brother, and the two clash once again.
