Hokuto no Ken (SEGA AGES 2500)
-From Rage Quitter 87's Fist of the North Star site
The SEGA AGES 2500 series were largely poor remakes of SEGA's old games, released exclusively for the Playstation 2. Several games in this series were never released outside Japan, including Hokuto no Ken. A remake of the Mark III game, the Playstation 2 version features all new graphics, more playable characters and a special technique system to use more powerful moves against enemies. As a bonus feature, the original Mark III game is also included on the disc.

The main mode is the story mode, where you play through several levels which loosely follow the events of the manga, from Kenshiro's battle with Shin to his final fight against Raoh. Most stages consist of you fighting against troops of a powerful foe, such as Souther's army or Yuda's gang. Each stage will conclude with a boss fight, where a more powerful opponent has to be defeated. Bosses include Shin, Jagi and Raoh. Battle mode is a one on one fight where you can select a character, then choose your opponent.
Most basic enemies will only take one hit to kill, but sub-bosses and normal bosses can take several hits. By attacking enemies, you will charge up a special technique gauge located in the upper middle of the screen (which looks like the big dipper constellation) and can perform various moves depending on how much it is charged up by. There are three playable characters -Kenshiro, Rei and Toki -who all have several different special techniques. You can cycle through these by pressing the R1 or L1 buttons and select the one you want to use in-game.
Whilst the graphics are cell-shaded, they are still dull and uninteresting, and the character models use a hilariously low amount of polygons. And the gameplay is as repetitive as it gets, not helped by how easy it is to playthrough -the special technique system means that this is far easier than the Mark III version, and most of the bosses can be taken out with minimal effort. Out of the two main Hokuto no Ken games available on the PS2, Arc System Work's game is a much better choice to import.
Battle mode
To unlock the battle mode, just beat the story mode. The battle mode option will then appear on the main menu.
