Hokuto no Ken Gekiuchi is the first typing tutor title, released only in Japan in 1999. It contains several stages and follows the story of the anime up to Kenshiro's first battle with Raoh.

In total there are seven levels to complete, each set in different locations. You'll get to battle with the likes of Zeed, the Fang clan and Shin. Each stage consists of several enemies, who are defeated by typing the letters which appear on the screen. Get everything right and you will kill/damage an enemy, get it wrong and you will take a hit. You have a life gauge which will decrease slightly whenever you get anything wrong. There is also a special technique gauge which will appear during boss fights, which will fill up by doing well. When it is full you can use the special technique to finish the boss off.

The game is slightly notorious within the fanbase as whilst it keeps the look of the anime series, it has the violence levels of the manga, and often goes even beyond that. Characters deaths are extremely graphic, with bodies exploding with as much blood as possible.
