Number of stages: 5
The round is set in a forest, which eventually gets set on fire. It seems that this idea was scrapped for the original version, as magazines show that the first level would be sent at and in a cave instead. The burning forest idea would also be featured in the original and final versions of the game.

This round starts in a forest, during the night. The only enemies here are ninjas, who will leap around whilst throwing shuriken at you. You'll find some ninjitsu items placed next to each other early on. Move right and you'll have to drop down.

Interestingly the enemy ninjas will kill themselves when hit, and they will explode -the explosion can hurt you. Keep moving right and you'll see some trees with branches you can jump on. This first stage will end around that point.

The next stage will then start, and you'll need to use some branches to move up. Some soldiers are in the trees, and will thrown grenades at you. When you reach the top, you'll find soldiers with guns, but their sprites haven't been completed yet as their legs are missing when they stand up and fire!

When the next stage begins, the background will change to a flaming forest. The only enemies here are soldiers, and there are also some canisters you can stand on (they won't explode if you do this).

The next stage has more of the same, but with more obstacles including boxes and different sized canisters you can jump off. There are also some girders you can grab hold of to try out the spider-walk.

The final stage of this round is against the boss, but he, like any of the other bosses in this prototype, does not work. He'll simply stand in place, rapidly going through all lf his available animations. He can't hurt you and you can't hurt him. All you can do is run past him to finish the level. Interestingly he does have one animation frame that goes unused in the final game -where he swipes upwards with his spear. Perhaps he did use this in the original version though.
