Special Champion Edition was great, and in 1994 Capcom followed it up with a conversion of Super Street Fighter II. This version is the largest game ever officially released on the SEGA Genesis, coming in at 40 megs. All the fighters are present, all the moves are there and there are even some new features crammed in. Challenge mode let you try and set either the highest score or fastest time against a CPU opponent, and the group battle option also returned. Tournament mode let you and up to 7 other people play in a tournament style setting.
However, the character voices sound even worse than in the previous SEGA Street Fighter. Whilst it has more character speech than the SNES version, it just sounds so bad that this can't really be considered a plus. Again, as with the previous port, hackers have found that it was possible to get the speech to sound much clearer, why Capcom failed to do this themselves is a mystery. But worst of all is the music -the renditions heard in this port are mostly bland and the SNES version has much better music. This is really surprising, especially how Special Champion Edition had really good tunes.
Genesis Super Street Fighter II is good, and certainly one of the best fighting games for the system, but the terrible character speech and poor music mean that I think the SNES version is better this time round.
