The Japanese version of this game featured a network battle option, allowing players to fight each other over the Internet. Choosing this option takes you to a new menu, where there is an option to find an opponent, view the game's site, or check out the score rankings.

The network battle mode was removed from the American version. The game's logo takes the place of where the button used to be in the main menu.

The secret factor mode has some differences. In the Japanese version, there were different types of points you could get, these being D points, N points and V points. D points could be obtained by playing the game offline on Dreamcast, N points could only be collected by playing on an arcade machine (you'd need to take your VMU and plug it into the machine) and V points could be receiving by playing the network battle mode. The VS shop worked different in Japan, as certain items (including characters) could only be purchased with certain points -so if no arcade had this game near you and/or you didn't have the Internet, you couldn't obtain everything in the game.

For the American version, this was changed to something a lot less ridiculous, as the points are all under one thing -"your points". They had to changed it anyway since the network battle mode had been removed.

Speaking of network battle, the Japanese version also keeps a log of how many times you've won and lost online, along with a ranking grade.
