The title screen logo was slightly altered so the SNK logo no longer has an ® on it.

The Japanese version of this game had a "network mode" which was cut from the American version. The network mode has an option to go to the game's site, I'm not sure if it also had an online play mode though.

The usual Capcom character name changes apply to this game. What's interesting though is that in the Japanese version, if you highlight a character, their name will eventually scroll off and the text of the game they made their debut in will appear. This little feature was cut from the American version.

In Japan, this game could be used with the Neo Geo Pocket link cable. When you access this option, you're taken to a new menu where you can transfer points from this game to SNK Vs. Capcom: The Math of the Millennium or vice-versa. This option was removed from the non Japanese versions, leaving a space on the secret mode screen.

In Japan, whenever Rugal uses his genocide cutter special move, he'll say the full name of the attack, as per the King of Fighters series. However this was censored for the American version, so you just grunts instead.

In the American version's moves list, this move was also censored to "destroyer cutter".

Similar to the above, Sagat's tiger genocide super combo has him say the full name of the move whenever he does it in Japan. However for America, he only says the first word:

On the Final Fight stage, a music track called "Needle" is played. The track had English lyrics in the Japanese version, the lyrics were removed from the American version due to a curse word being said:
