7) THUNDERCATS
Yeah yeah, I'm aware this isn't a video game but as I haven't got a "TV I watched" section yet this is the only place I can vent my anger on this show. I got suckered into buying the entire thing on DVD due to the cool intro and that everyone on the net seemed so approving of it. I started watching it and quickly realised that this show isn't very good. The main cast go around on silly adventures (involving such wonders as robot midget teddy bears) and most of them are unlikable -you've got assholes (Tygra) stupid kids (the two youngsters) and complete annoyances (Snarf). The voice acting isn't that good either, I felt sorry for Lynne Lipton as she seemed to voice every female character on the show whilst Tygra's voice actor sounded like a robot half the time.
When the big bad guy Mumm-Ra first appeared I thought he looked good, and his second form was awesome. Then it turned out that his weakness is that he's scared of his own reflection. How stupid is that?! That would be the equivalent of Megatron being fearful of trucks or Raoh running away whenever he sees the colour blue. And when Mumm-Ra is still the most dangerous villain in the show despite this it says a lot about the designs of the other evil characters.
I'll admit that I haven't watched that much of it but there have been barely any episodes I would class as even "decent" so I'm in no rush to watch any more. At least this years wasn't a total disaster for cartoons thanks to X-Men.
6) CASTLEVANIA: ORDER OF ECCLESIA (DS)
Compared to most of the shit released this year on the DS this is good but the Metroidvania formula has become stale. This is the worst of the three DS Castlevania games with a boring heroine, silly plot, subpar music (a real letdown after Portrait of Ruin's excellent soundtrack), long boss battles and an over-rated of difficulty. When I first read about this game a lot of reviewers were saying that it was much tougher than the previous games, but nothing in this game provided much challenge. The new soul collecting feature is just the weapon collecting from the previous games with a slight twist. I really hope that if Konami make another DS Castlevania they try something completely different with it.
5) GEARS OF WAR (XBOX 360)
Halo is over-rated but I can at least enjoy it. But the other big exclusive on 360, Gears of War, was garbage from start to finish. It eludes me to why so many thing this game is so wonderful when the big feature is the fact that you can press a button to TAKE COVER BEHIND THINGS!!!! Revolutionary stuff here folks. Movement feels extremely clumsy such as when I try and take over behind something, I end up bumping into a wall and taking hits. And then there are enemies that can take you out with one shot from ages away (and this is even on the medium difficulty setting), brown and boring graphics and generally nothing for me to like about it whatsoever.
4) TRYING TO CHANGE THE NAT SETTINGS TO "OPEN" (XBOX 360)
So Ragey got himself an Xbox 360. Great! Surely this means online multi-player shenanigans right? Wrong. Because both of us have our NAT settings on "Strict" it means we can't play each other on nearly every game we have. And trying to change the NAT to "Open" is an absolute nightmare, the things I've tried had crippled the Internet in my house and made connecting to Xbox Live impossible. All we want to do is piss people off in Halo but we can't because a long time a go some moron made network settings far more complicated than they needed to be.
3) SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (XBOX 360)
Everyone hates this game so I don't have to say that much about it other than yes, it really is as bad as you've heard about it. From Sonic's awful free running levels to the constantly terrible camera, this game deserves all the bashing it gets. Sonic Unleashed isn't that good either but out of the two 3D Sonic games I've played this year this one is the absolute worst.
2) THE KING OF FIGHTERS XII (XBOX 360)
When this was first announced it was great -finally SNK were releasing a KoF game with completely new graphics, something most people had wanted for a long time. And when the game came out that was exactly what we got -shame that they forgot to add any other content! Whilst the graphics were fine, this KoF lacked characters, stages, music, story (there isn't even a boss) or modes of play. Now you'd at least think that releasing a game with so little content (especially in the wake of Street Fighter IV) that the online mode would at least be up to scratch, but again SNK failed to deliver. The online fights in this are abysmal. When the game first came out the online mode was borderline unplayable due to the huge amounts of lag, with most games running in slow-motion. A patch has improved this somewhat but it still isn't enough. Whilst the next game will hopefully be the true sequel I wanted I can only hope that SNK will be able to stay in business long enough to create it.
1) LEGO STAR WARS II (XBOX 360)
Why do people love these LEGO games so much? The most common reason seems to be, hey, these games are too easy, have tons of useless crap to collect and offer no challenge at all but who cares, they're fun! Not for me thanks. I don't know what the thing is I hate the most about this game, either there being no true way to die (you have infinite lives) or a glitch in the last level that makes the game freeze. Or a good portion of the characters being totally useless. Or the horrendous vehicle only levels. Or any of the other many reasons to why this game sucks.
